I was generalizing when I said EA sports games and mini game multiplayer games only go multiplatform but you should get the picture. We need GTA4, Splinter Cell, Call of Duty, Resident Evils...if these games sell well on the wii then no 3rd company will have an excuse not to invest time and money in to the Wii ports. Alone in the Dark will be a nice test...i predict that some casual gamers go for the PS2 version and hardcore gamer gets the 360 version (ps3 doesnt come out till november) and wii sales don't do so well. |
So again it's a genre issue, not 3rd party in general. Funny you mention RE yet Wii has 2 million selling RE titles already. This is where the problem is. People typically don't discern the difference when they lambast the Wii saying 3rd party titles don't sell on Wii. You mean big budget mature rated titles. That's cherry picking a type of 3rd party title of which Wii doesn't do as well at but it is certainly not the whole of3rd party title range. EDIT: Ajax, are you in the wrong thread? |
I know about the 2 resident evil games...i own them both and both are great (RE4 great... Umbrella chronicles so so). But I'm sure you will agree with me when I say that neither took a lot of effort to put together. RE4 was probably done in a weekend and RE:UC took 3-4 months tops.
The problem with 3rd party manufacturers bringing big budget titles to wii is that they design a game to be optimized on ps360...and then they have to figure out how to downgrade the graphics and implement wii mote...
Thus far its been hit and miss with some higher budget Wii ports when it comes to sales (Medal of honour2, call of duty didn't sell nearly as well) and until Wii shows the devs it can match the PS360 games in sales alone, they probably won't bother porting the biggest games over (MGS, GTA...)
Developing a game from scratch fo the wii is a posibility and then porting it over to ps360...but they would have to put a lot of extra time in to making the ps360 game look on par with other titles graphically as those 2 systems dont have motion controller they can use as an excuse for impared visuals.
