I personally would, as I consider Nintendo to be the best developer in the industry and I want to play their games, but from Nintendo's point of view it wouldn't make sense to go back to a dedicated home console when the handheld audience makes up a huge portion of their player base.

"Nothing below 1080p" isn't happening either; there are sub-1080p games even on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and there will be even on PS5 Pro too. Sacrificing pixel count for better shaders or effects is up to the developer, and some will always choose this route.

@bold: this is my take as well. Portable, stationary, underpowered, overpowered, built into the side of a four-slice toaster — it doesn’t matter. Nintendo is the best publisher/developer on the planet, and I simply need its games in my life.

Damn, that's hardcore. Respect 👊

My Switch doesn't leave the dock.

Sell me a console without a display, battery, dock, joycons and offer it at a lower price and I will buy several.

The hardcore Nintendo gamer is a dying breed (literally), so a home console as much as personally we would love one, not enough people as wee all age would buy it, the general public gamer prefers the portable/hybrid route as Nintendo isn't the cool home console to have, that mantle is Sony's.

Several? Why?

Considering mine sits in the dock all the time and I use a regular controller, Yes. It's just an awkward console now.

An awkward console that hits below 720p. I know you have a good TV ad we were discussing HDR, do you find the switch to be painfully bad on TV?

I played BotW and TotK on a 92" screen, old 1080p projector. I've also played TotK on my 4K HDR 65" tv, yet more often on the old 52" 1080p TV sitting next to 4K TV. Play while watching.

Yes it's low resolution, but that doesn't bother me. Before the initial patches the stuttering frame rate was the painful part, especially since it interfered with the abilities. Resolution you quickly get used to, plus I technically play at the same or lower resolution in VR ;) The amount of fine detail distracting my eyes in Astrobot is more painful after all that VR :p (Cool physics, but I need a broom to clean this place up lol)

I did miss HDR in TotK. The lighting of BotW and TotK are screaming HDR but instead it's often low contrast. These games would really shine with proper HDR implementation. But as silver lining, it looked exactly the same on projector, 4K HDR and 1080p LCD tv...

What I find painfully bad is playing on a handheld. Tiny screen in my hands, tiny controllers. Dealing with glare on the screen or go sit in the dark to play. My hands start cramping after a while and my neck starts hurting from sitting in an awkward position with the Switch on my lap. So I leave it in the dock now.

Yeah my Switch is already essentially a home console too; I only ever play it in docked mode as I never got into handhelds and prefer playing on a TV.
I realize though that I'm a small minority of the Switch player base.

Really interesting results. I hold no hope but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.

That would actually be a big reason for me to come back.

My view on this matter have changed a bit since my backlog grown. Usally I get whatever Nintendo releases to be able to play their games but I have already two generations of Mario platformers that I have not played. Me not wanting to buy a new traditional console have more to do with limited time than anything else.

You aren't on the Nintendo train right now or you don't plan to upgrade to Nextendo?
