Anyone else get post RPG depression after a really long one, especially a character focused one?

I was pretty spent after finishing Chained Echoes a couple years ago. I played the game for about 60 hours, and the characters really left a mark on me during that time.

And some people say games aren't art, I say they are the highest art form.

I'm currently playing it atm, its character-driven side-quests have brought tears to my eyes multiple times.
If you have not played it, I highly recommend it, it's a must play if you like Stardew Valley. It's a deeper Action-JRPG/Farming-sim than I originally expected, with a farming sim twist (in a good way).
PS Don't let the first couple of hours put you off, it starts off linear, but the more you play, the more the overworld expands and you get get lost in what you want to do next. The seasons change and you will choose to continue the main story, side stories, levelling up character, farming crops, gathering money and buying new weaponry. You can do multiple things per day and there is so much to do the more you play it. It's by Square Enix too. A very unsung game, don't let the Metacritic score put you off playing it. It's different to all the other JRPGs I have played due to it's farming mechanic.

I bought a physical copy of this a while ago, but it’s still sitting on the shelf. I will have to prioritize it!

Yep. I played through and finished the Mass Effect trilogy for the first time a couple of years ago. If you grow attached to the characters and world it can be sad to finish the journey. It hits doubly hard when you believe it's likely you'll never play the game again. Had the same feeling when I finished my third playthrough of Skyrim. Felt like I was saying goodbye to that world for the last time because I'm not sure I'll ever dedicate another 150 hours to playing that for a fourth time rather than playing the astronomical amount of games on my backlog. Our time is finite and no matter how much we love a game we can't play it an unlimited amount of times. One playthrough of our most cherished games will be our last.

Wow that's depressing, time to get back to Astro Bot to cure that.

Yep, the longer the game is the more it gets you, I'm slightly afraid to start a Witcher 3 playthrough since the last one recked me for days afterward. I found Skyrim is set up so you can kind of slowly let the playthrough come to an end travelling around a bit same with GTA5 cause of the true open world, The Witcher 3 and Divinity OS2 are simply end screen and that's it, good look nursing the blues for the next week.

Hum, why are you just spoiling an important background section of Xenogears ?

Because I don't care about spoilers in 27-30 year old games, and I doubt you do either.

We've been discussing plot points in Xenogears, Final Fantasy 6, and Chrono Trigger in this forum for about as long as it's been around.

I missed this exchange when it originally happened, but I definitely do care about spoilers. I don't want to limit the conversation here, but please use the spoiler font moving forward. That should make both sides happy.

Countless moments across so many games made me emotional in different ways. But as far as "melancholy", the standouts are Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 6, Xenogears, and NieR Automata off the top of my head. If visual novels count, then I'd add Umineko When They Cry.

Yorda and the pigeon @00:45. I can't... T_T

Nah. I think that's BS. These are 27-30 year old games. But I'll respectfully exit the thread and delete my posts.
