Switch vs DS Sales Comparison in Japan - March 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in December 2004 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch Vs. DS Japan:

March 2024 is the 85th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch has outsold the DS by 259,409 units when you align the launches.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 3.27 million units. The DS is currently ahead of the Switch by 0.28 million units.

The 85th month for the Switch is March 2024, while for the DS it is December 2011. The Switch has sold 32.63 million units, while the DS sold 32.91 million units during the same timeframe. The DS sold current Switch sales in month 77.

The DS has sold 32.99 million units lifetime in Japan. The Switch is currently 0.36 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

Very exciting stats and thats for clarifying how the Switch has outsold the DS. It's going to be exciting what the sales numbers look like when they hit the 100th month.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - March 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

Gap change over last 12 months: 132,780 - PS5

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 5,486,203

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 5,052,189

March 2024 is the 41st month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by 19,633 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 132,780 units. The PS5 is currently ahead by 434,014 units.

The 41st month for the PS5 in Japan is March 2024, while for the PS4 it is June 2017. The PS5 has sold 5.49 million units, while the PS4 sold 5.05 million units during the same timeframe. The PS4 sold current PS5 sales in month 44.

The PS4 crossed 6 million in month 47, 7 million in month 53, and 8 million in month 61. The PS4 has sold 9.68 million units to date. The PS5 is currently 4.19 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - March 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

March 2024 is the 41st month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for in Japan. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 21,667 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 307,168 units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 473,881 units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.57 million units in 41 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 1.05 million units. Month 41 for the Xbox Series X|S is March 2024 and for the Xbox 360 is April 2009.

The Xbox 360 crossed 1.2 million units in month 49 and 1.5 million units in month 67. The Xbox 360 sold 1.66 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 1.09 million units behind lifetime Xbox 360 sales.

This monthly series compares the aligned Europe sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Europe:

March 2024 is the 41st month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 198,477 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 0.27 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 4.90 million units.

The PS5 has sold 18.71 million units in 41 months, while the PS4 sold 23.61 million units. Month 41 for the PS5 is March 2024 and for the PS4 is March 2017.

The PS4 crossed 30 million in month 51 and 40 million in month 72. The PS4 has sold 45.85 million units to date in Europe. The PS5 is 27.14 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in Europe.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 7.61 million units in 41 months, while the Xbox One sold 8.29 million units. Month 41 for the Xbox Series X|S is March 2024 and for the Xbox One is March 2017.
