Probably vs no probably, seems to suggest you think you're more correct.

Despite the facts not really supporting that.

(p.s. using the Lord’s name in vain is a big no-no. personally, I won’t be bothered if you do continue to use it, though I will make my request heard.)

(p.s.s. Call what I’m saying Russian propaganda, and I’ll just resort to calling all your guys line to state department propaganda. Let’s be careful not letting our entire arguments rely on mudslinging and shoot-downs. im not holier than thou, but it is a waste when debates take that route.)

"Thou shalt ignore people in need and let them slaughtered because they wanted in a defensive organisation" - Some Bible Verse?

What you are using is literal Russian propaganda, Russian excuses used by Russian officials to justify the war, one of many justifications used. Me, Pi-Guy, Rol are not saying stuff to you based on what governments told us but factual information and personal opinion that we believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with Ukraine wanting to join a defensive alliance.

  • Fact - America never promised Russia not to expand, it's nowhere in writing.
  • Fact - Russia and America gave Ukraine security guarantees in exchange for surrendering their nukes, that is in writing.
  • Fact - Ukraine was already "rejected" for NATO once before by France and Germany.
  • Fact - NATO membership requires the YES vote of every single member.
  • Fact - Ukraine was nowhere close to joining NATO due to active conflicts in Crimea and Donbas.
  • Fact - America has said Ukraine can't join NATO right now until the war is over.
  • Fact - NATO is a defensive organisation and Article 5 has only ever been invoked by America in response to 9/11.
  • Fact - Russia has said that Ukraine doesn't exist as a country and is a part of Russia.
  • Fact - NATO has never attacked Russia.
  • Fact - Russia pulled troops away from the Finland border (I.E. NATO border now).
  • Fact - Russia has nuclear capable missiles inside of Kaliningrad, a country which borders Poland.
  • Fact - USA does not need to place nukes in Ukraine to reach Russia with nukes.
  • Fact - No country in the Nordics, Baltics, Eastern Europe have nukes or share American nukes.
  • Fact - America places restrictions on what Ukraine can do against Russia to avoid upsetting Russia too much.
  • Fact - Western countries have consistently opted for "escalation management" rather than "help Ukraine win" during this war.

You: Russia invaded Ukraine because NATO provoked them and so we should abandon Ukraine.

You really don't see it, hate America that much and are so deep in Russian propaganda that you're willingly spreading Russian propaganda which hurts support towards Ukraine and don't even pretend like it doesn't because you're in this very thread saying that America should "leave them alone" because you naively believe Russia doesn't want all of Ukraine, they "only" want up to Odesa and Kyiv...Aka half of Ukraine, the capital, the link to Moldova (another country Russia is escalating in), cutting off Ukraine from the Black Sea and the heavy metal resources in Donbas.

okay I know said I’d drop out…but you can’t leave a comment like this and not expect me to respond.

Russia is not justified in their invasion. Here’s what I believe: Imperialism = bad! (Big shock!). My main point is that Americans should look at the conflict not as an entirely unprovoked attack by a country looking to reestablish the Soviet Union, but rather that maybe there’s more to the story. In this particular instance, I perceive Russia took the bait that America was handing them. That is, America sent Ukraine invitations into NATO with the sole intent of provoking Russia to intervene via invasion. America wants this because now Russia has a war they have to deal with on their border, weakening their power and thereby strengthening the US.

Is there precedent for a superpower doing these sorts of things? Of course there are! This isn’t an America-special sort of thing, nor do I fault the powers in charge of America for pulling these sorts of strings. But just because I understand their intention doesn’t mean it’s all the sudden justifiable.

This is Marjorie Taylor Greene levels of conspiracy and warrants no further discussion.

this is a fair assessment. Because Putin choosing to tank the Russian economy for the sake of empirical glory makes a whole lot more sense than claiming that maybe international conflicts are a little more nuanced, and that both sides will have their fair share of bad actors.

edit: later today I’ll be dropping some facts on y’all. You guys won’t be ready for this. It’s the long awaited return of FireBush in the politics chat: Be prepared Ryuu96 and Pi-Guy.

You do sound like MTG Tbf.

You realise that the war hasn't gone to plan for Russia? They expected to take Kyiv (the capital) within weeks, one of the very first things they did in the invasion was make a push for Kyiv with thousands of troops, it ultimately failed and they got pushed out of Kyiv (and Sumy Oblast).

So no, Putin didn't plan to cripple Russia's economy (which is now being propped up slightly by war-mode) because he didn't expect much resistance, he expected Ukraine to rollover and accept their fate, total capitulation, it would have been a swift takeover in his mind and the West would have done fuck all as we often have in the past ignored Russia invading multiple countries. We also barely mustered a response when Russia illegally stole Crimea so it would make sense that Putin thought we would again do nothing.

Now he has no choice from a personal standpoint, either he continues the fight until Ukraine surrenders or Putin surrenders and pulls out, says to the relatives of hundreds of thousands of dead Russians "Oops, my crazy imperialist conquest failed, they all died and we got nothing"

r/AITA

So I was planning on joining the Neighbourhood Watch, my neighbour didn't like that, so he broke into my home one night, murdered half my family and took up residence in a room in my house, he steals my food and claims everything else is his too, now he's saying he won't leave and he keeps trying to kill me to take the rest of my house.

Now I'm questioning if I was the asshole here because my other neighbour, Moscow Michael, says it is my fault because I wanted to join the Neighbourhood Watch, he says that was a threat to my other neighbour and therefore it is my fault and the fault of the Neighbourhood Watch that my neighbour broke into my home, murdered my family and stole my house.

The thing is as well, the Neighbourhood Watch was rejecting my application because I was currently in a dispute with my neighbour after he already knocked down my fence and took over a portion of my garden, then he was also throwing Molotov bombs at my house from time to time but u'know, I guess maybe I shouldn't have wanted in a protective organisation after being attacked for the past 10 years?

AITA?

Also, you forgot about Zorg, I'll remind you of his question which you also conveniently ignored after making a statement about something broad but then only focusing on a singular issue.

"How are they the same in regards to healthcare, abortion, immigration, infrastructure, climate change, crime, LGBT rights, voting rights, gun safety, childcare, student loans, marijuana legalization, labor rights, housing, tax policy, etc?"

I'm not American, but after Jan 6th Capitol attack how can anyone support Trump? Was it not the greatest attack on your democracy since the civil war?

There are Americans who cheer on Russia while it repeatedly expresses its desire to want to see America and its allies destroyed because "woke" and "SJW" are their biggest concerns, I'm pretty certain at this point these dudes in a hypothetical Russian invasion would happily step aside and let Russia slaughter their fellow Americans because "fuck dem wokie lefties"

So I'm not surprised people defend the Jan 6th Capitol attack, Lol.

Denial, an utter rejection of reality over what they'd prefer to be true, media bubbles, victimhood/conspiracy based radicalization, mental illness, etc.

Clearly these things don’t matter to the American people, the one and only issue that affects American’s voting patterns is foreign policy.
