Israeli forces shot aid seekers waving white flags in Gaza

US media, citing an army reservist, is reporting that last month, Israeli forces shot at Palestinians holding white flags near a GHF site.

According to the reservist quoted by the Wall Street Journal, soldiers fired at the aid seekers who had shifted from the designated route.

“We have an unwritten rule that if you are worried and they get too close and you see that it could be something that puts you and your team at risk, you don’t take that risk,” the reservist said.

He added that while troops are told to fire in the air or shoot at Palestinians’ knees, “mistakes happen”.

Since the GHF was established, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed while attempting to receive life-saving food packages.

That's a lot of 'mistakes'...

‘Atrocious and inhumane’: UN chief decries mass killings in starving Gaza

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the latest mass killing of aid seekers in the Gaza Strip by Israeli troops.

“Over the weekend in Gaza, we saw yet more mass shootings and killings of people seeking UN aid for their families, an atrocious and inhumane act, which I utterly condemn,” Guterres said at a forum on sustainable development.

Highlighting the deteriorating situation in Gaza, Guterres stressed “we need an immediate ceasefire in Gaza [and] the immediate release of all hostages”.

“Unimpeded humanitarian access” must be allowed by Israel to UN-led aid agencies, Guterres said.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 86 people – including 76 children – have died from hunger and dehydration since October 2023.

‘Caretakers in Gaza are in need of care’: UN

The head of the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) says doctors, nurses, and others who take care of people in Gaza are hungry themselves.

Philippe Lazzarini again slammed the Israel-US-backed GHF as a “sadistic death trap” and reiterated the UN and international organisations are fully capable of getting humanitarian aid to Gaza if they’re allowed.

“End this abomination,” he said.

Patients in Gaza face death as medical teams work without food

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) issued an urgent humanitarian appeal, warning that patients in Gaza are at risk of dying because of severe shortages of food and medical care.

In a post on X, the group said its medical teams are working under inhumane conditions – without food, support, or access to critical supplies – as the ongoing blockade prevents humanitarian aid from entering the besieged enclave.

“This is an urgent humanitarian message to the international community,” PRCS said in a statement. “Stop the war immediately. Open the crossings now.”

MSF aid workers among thousands affected by Deir el-Balah offensive

Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, says the forced displacement threat that preceded the Israeli army’s ground invasion of Deir el-Balah has already displaced up to 80,000 Palestinians.

Among them were 36 staff members of the medical aid group, who worked in the al-Mawasi clinic and had to abruptly leave a busy health facility while treating an influx of patients wounded near distribution sites run by the notorious Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

In a statement, the MSF also pointed out that the forced evacuation also impacted one of the main lifelines for water distribution in southern Gaza.

“Today water distribution trucks could not reach the plant, and these orders will put at risk anyone who tries to distribute water from here in the near future,” it said.

Forced displacement areas by the Israeli army now encompass 87 percent of the enclave, said the MSF.

‘Systemic destruction project’ as Israel clears Gaza of Palestinians

A columnist for Israel’s Haaretz newspaper says the ethnic cleansing happening now in Gaza is comparable to what the Nazis did in their early years, and it must be immediately stopped.

“There’s now a very systemic destruction project of whole towns and villages, one after the other,” Gideon Levy told Al Jazeera. “Israel is doing things that the Germans did in the early years of the Third Reich, which Israelis don’t see any similarity.”

He said Israeli politicians and the media are giving “unbelievable explanations and legitimisations”, such as fighting Hamas to justify the total destruction and emptying of Gaza.

“Killing 27,000 children is self-defence. At the same time, nobody is looking backward to their own family’s experience,” said Levy.

“I must remind all of us: The extermination of the Jews in the Holocaust started with evacuating people to the east [of Europe]. Same plan. That’s the first stage. We should stop it here. But Israel doesn’t see its own image. We don’t look in the mirror.”

WHO says staff residence in Gaza raided by Israeli troops

The World Health Organization (WHO) says its staff residence and main warehouse in Deir el-Balah were attacked three times by Israeli forces.

Two WHO staff and two family members were detained, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO’s director-general. Three were later released, while one staff member remains in detention.

“Israeli military entered the premises, forcing women and children to evacuate on foot toward al-Mawasi amid active conflict,” said Tedros. “WHO demands the immediate release of the detained staff and protection of all its staff.”

Israeli tanks and troops pushed into southern and eastern districts of central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah city for the first time during the 21-month war on Monday.

Israeli army chief draws up new plan to capture more territory in Gaza

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has drafted a plan to intensify ground operations across Gaza, according to a report by Israel’s Channel 12.

Sources cited by the outlet described the proposal as “the plan for taking over Gaza”.

The reported blueprint is seen as an alternative to Netanyahu’s controversial concentration camp plan in Rafah, which Zamir reportedly opposes.

The plan would be implemented if a deal to end the war is not reached after a proposed 60-day ceasefire, and envisions Israeli forces gradually capturing more territory than they currently control.

According to another Israeli media outlet, Netanyahu has blocked Zamir from presenting the plan to Israel’s security cabinet and prevented further discussion by ministers already briefed.

Israel’s Ben-Gvir attacks army chief over potential ceasefire

Israel’s far-right security minister has condemned a “grave and dangerous mistake” by army chief Eyal Zamir after he made positive ceasefire comments while visiting invading soldiers in Gaza.

Itamar Ben-Gvir said Zamir’s comments that it would be a “great achievement for you” if a truce and captive exchange deal is reached in the coming days are “extremely reckless”.

“Our soldiers have been fighting for a very long time to achieve the primary goal of this operation: to eliminate Hamas in Gaza,” Ben-Gvir said during a speech, adding a deal would be bad because it would get humanitarian aid into Gaza and release some Palestinian prisoners.

“I do not believe in a deal that weakens our power and gives Hamas oxygen, but I believe in the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip, enhancing military operations, and encouraging voluntary migration.”

Israeli-Canadian soldiers fear fallout from war crimes probe

The Times of Israel (ToI) is reporting that Israeli soldiers who hold Canadian citizenship are afraid of returning to Canada after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) launched what it called a “structural investigation” into possible war crimes in the “Israel-Hamas conflict”.

Nati Hubberman, a dual citizen from the Canadian city of Toronto who carried out reserve duty on Israel’s northern borders, told the media outlet he was scared.

“A lot of us asked ourselves: Is it safe for me to fly to Canada? Will I be arrested at the border?” he said.

A leading Canadian Jewish organisation expressed concern over the RCMP’s inquiry, but has said the Canadian police have confirmed that a criminal investigation is not under way at present.

David Cooper, CIJA’s vice president, told ToI that the RCMP’s involvement began with “investigations into Canadians that were murdered by Hamas” and said his organisation has urged the Canadian government to maintain that focus.

The RCMP’s investigation comes as calls grow for accountability for Israeli atrocities in Gaza, which experts say amount to a “genocide”.

You're not welcome back here. Canada should revoke their dual citizenship, no renewal.

Two Israelis briefly detained by Belgium on suspicion of Gaza war crimes

Two Israeli citizens were briefly detained for questioning by Belgian police while on holiday and then released after rights group Hind Rajab Foundation told authorities they may be responsible for “grave international crimes, including war crimes and genocide” in Gaza.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that it worked on the issue along with the Israeli military, but did not provide further details.

The federal prosecutor’s office said it had “asked the police to locate the two people named in the complaint and to interview them” as they attended the Tomorrowland festival in the country, but also did not elaborate further.

Palestine Action cofounder asks UK court to challenge ban

A cofounder of Palestine Action is set to ask the UK High Court for permission to challenge the government’s decision to ban the group under anti-terror laws.

Huda Ammori is seeking to overturn Home Secretary Yvette Cooper’s move to proscribe the direct action network, after it claimed responsibility for covering two RAF planes with red paint at Brize Norton airbase on June 20.

The group said the planes were linked to UK military support for Israel’s war on Gaza, accusing Britain of enabling the transport of weapons used in the bombardment of the enclave.

Cooper announced the ban on June 23, calling the action “terrorist-related”. The proscription came into force on July 5, after Ammori failed in an urgent legal attempt to block it.

Under the Terrorism Act 2000, membership or public support for Palestine Action is now a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

British Palestine Project says government must prevent atrocities in Gaza

The British Palestine Project (BPP) has questioned the government’s failure to abide by the Geneva Convention to “prevent genocide from occurring in Gaza”.

“As the world watches the people of Gaza being starved to death, and being shot for seeking minimal sustenance, while at the same time members of the Israeli government express clear intent to go further,” a statement by the BPP read. “The British Government needs to act resolutely to try to prevent further atrocities and create a space for a peaceful solution,” it added.

The BPP called on the government to end all military cooperation and arms trade with Israel, to announce that the UK agrees with the ICJ’s findings that a risk of genocide was taking place in Gaza and to “redouble” efforts to achieve a full “unconditional ceasefire in Gaza” among other calls.

‘Intolerable’: British PM condemns Israel’s killing of Gaza aid seekers

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated the situation in Gaza is “intolerable on so many levels” during a House of Commons speech.

“[And] we make that absolutely clear in all our exchanges with Israel and with other countries,” Starmer told parliamentarians.

“Whether that’s the deaths of those that are queueing for aid, whether it’s the plans to force Palestinians to live in certain areas or be excluded from certain areas, they are all intolerable and absolutely wrong in principle.”

The prime minister reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to recognising a Palestinian state “at a time most conducive to the prospects of peace” in the region.

UK admonishes Israel for ‘litany of horrors’ in Gaza

Israel is “tarnishing” its reputation by ignoring calls from dozens of nations for an immediate end to its devastating war on Gaza, the UK’s foreign secretary says.

Palestinians have been subjected to a “grotesque spectacle” and a “litany of horrors”, said David Lammy as he addressed parliamentarians.

The comments come after Israel launched a major ground assault targeting Deir el-Balah, the main hub for humanitarian efforts in the besieged enclave.

Lammy said ignoring the international community is “tarnishing greatly the reputation of Israel”.

“I utterly condemn the killing of civilians seeking to meet their basic needs. I firmly believe the Israeli government’s actions are doing untold damage to Israel’s standing in the world, and undermining Israel’s long-term security.”

It's tearing the UK apart as well... No more words, actions. And not actions as in arresting more anti-genocide protesters.

Twenty-five countries, including UK, France, call for immediate end to Gaza war

The foreign ministers of 25 countries, including the UK, France, Italy and Japan, and the EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, signed a joint statement calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza.

In a statement, the signatories said the “suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths”, with the aid delivery system in the enclave “dangerous” and depriving “Gazans of human dignity”.

“We condemn the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food,” the statement read.

“The Israeli Government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable,” it said, calling on the government to lift restrictions on aid trucks.

Moreover, the foreign ministers said they “strongly oppose” any plans for a demographic change in the occupied Palestinian territory.

“We urge the parties and the international community to unite in a common effort to bring this terrible conflict to an end, through an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire. Further bloodshed serves no purpose,” it added.

Israel denounces 25 countries for calling for end to war on Gaza

Israel has rejected a statement by 25 countries calling for an end to the war on Gaza as a move “disconnected from reality and sends the wrong message to Hamas”.

In a statement on X, the Foreign Ministry said all statements about the war should only be directed at Hamas, which “started this war and is prolonging it”.

“There is a concrete proposal for a ceasefire deal, and Israel has repeatedly said yes to this proposal, while Hamas stubbornly refuses to accept it. The statement fails to focus the pressure on Hamas and fails to recognise Hamas’s role and responsibility for the situation,” it said.

“At these sensitive moments in the ongoing negotiations, it is better to avoid statements of this kind.”

What negotiations?

Pressure should be on Hamas ‘savages’ not Israel: US envoy

Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, says the move by 25 countries, including Israel’s Western allies, to condemn Israel for horrific conditions in Gaza is “disgusting”.

He said in posts on X that 25 nations “put pressure on Israel instead of savages of Hamas”, and alleged Gaza is suffering because Hamas is rejecting truce proposals.

Huckabee also backed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar’s argument that since Hamas welcomed the condemnation of Israel, those who denounced Israel are “doing evil”.

Senator Bernie Sanders calls for end to US military aid to Israel

US Senator Bernie Sanders demanded an immediate halt to US military support to Israel as he decried another deadly weekend in Gaza in which 130 Palestinians were killed and more than 1,000 wounded.

“People are starving. Many were shot by the Israeli military while simply trying to get food,” Sanders wrote on X. “This is completely insane and unacceptable. No more US military aid to Israel.”

His remarks come amid growing calls in Washington and internationally for a Gaza ceasefire and accountability for Israel’s leaders. Since the Israeli-US-backed GHF was established in May, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed while attempting to receive life-saving food packages.

Israeli attacks target Yemen’s Hodeidah port

Israeli media report attacks by the Israeli army on Yemen’s Hodeidah port.

Israel says it attacks Houthi infrastructure

The Israeli army says it has carried out attacks on Houthi infrastructure in Yemen.

The targets included “engineering vehicles, fuel containers and naval vessels”, it said in a post on X.

Israel says drone launched from Yemen intercepted

Israeli Army Radio has reported that Israeli air defences intercepted a drone launched from Yemen. It added that the warning system was not activated.

This comes after Israel targeted the Yemeni port of Hodeidah this morning, claiming to have targeted Houthi infrastructure.

Yemen’s Houthis claim drone attacks on Israeli targets

Yemen’s Houthis say they have targeted multiple sites in Israel, including Ben Gurion International Airport and military sites in Ashdod and the Jaffa area.

In a statement, the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the attacks were conducted in support of the Palestinian people and in retaliation for Israeli strikes on both Gaza and Yemen’s Hodeidah port.

The statement said the drone attack “successfully achieved its objectives” and pledged similar attacks would continue until Israel’s deadly assault in Gaza comes to an end and its siege is lifted.

One person killed in Israeli strike on southern Lebanon

An Israeli drone strike on southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh has killed at least one person, Lebanon’s National News Agency reports. The strike targeted a motorcycle, killing its rider on the spot in the town of at-Tiri near the city of Bint Jbeil, it said.

Israel continues attacks on Lebanon despite signing a ceasefire with Hezbollah in November to halt hostilities.

Israeli forces arrest 12 Palestinians in West Bank raids

Israeli forces have arrested nine Palestinians from the Bethlehem governorate of the occupied West Bank this morning, Wafa is reporting.

They also arrested Zarifa Yousef Daoud al-Deek after raiding her home in Kafr ad-Dik, and two brothers from Nablus, in other early morning raids.

Israeli forces assault 3 Palestinians in West Bank raid

Three Palestinians, including two elderly men, have been wounded after being assaulted by Israeli forces during their raid on the Thinnabeh suburb, east of Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), cited by Wafa, said its emergency teams treated all three, who suffered injuries from beatings by Israeli soldiers at dawn on Monday.

They were transferred to Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital for further treatment.

During the raid, Israeli troops also stormed and ransacked several homes.

Palestinian officials announce closure of water pumps after settler attacks

The Jerusalem Governorate Water Utility has announced a halt in the operation of water pumping stations and wells in the Ein Samiya area, east of Kafr Malik, in the occupied West Bank, due to escalating attacks by Israeli settlers on infrastructure, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.

In a statement, the Palestinian governorate said it had lost all technical and administrative control over the water system after direct assaults on pumping equipment, communication systems, electrical networks and surveillance cameras.

It added that continuing disruptions to internet and telecommunications services in the area are severely affecting technical access, system restoration efforts and field crew safety.

The Ein Samiya wells directly serve 19 Palestinian communities and jointly help supply water to 14 other areas via the Ramallah Station. The water system in Ein Samiya serves an estimated 110,000 people, either fully or partially.

Surge in settler violence and demolitions in occupied West Bank

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says seven Palestinians, including a child, were killed and 115 injured in the occupied West Bank between July 8-14.

At least 30 attacks by Israeli settlers from illegal settlements were recorded during that period.

In one of the most violent incidents, two Palestinians were killed and 58 others wounded in a large settler incursion near the villages of Sinjil and al-Mazraa ash-Sharqiya.

OCHA also reported 29 Palestinian buildings were demolished that week, displacing 34 people. Since the start of the year, 796 structures have been demolished across the West Bank, displacing 779 Palestinians.

The agency warned of an escalating humanitarian crisis as attacks on people, homes and farmland intensify.

Settler and military violence driving mental health crisis in West Bank

Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, has warned relentless violence by Israelis from illegal settlements and the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank is leaving deep psychological scars on Palestinians.

In a statement, the medical aid agency said more than 85 percent of homes in some villages have been demolished, while residents face near-daily assaults, blocked roads and destruction of clinics and mosques.

MSF said children are suffering from nightmares and panic attacks, while adults face serious trauma. In June alone, 94 percent of new mental health cases seen by the group were directly linked to violent incidents.

It accused Israeli forces of enabling and sometimes participating in the violence, and called on the international community to stop what it described as “a policy of forced displacement”.

Israeli forces torching homes in Nur Shams is a ‘systematic crime’

Abdullah Kamil, governor of Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank, has condemned the Israeli army’s “deliberate, systematic” burning of Palestinian homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp.

The arson attacks are meant to terrorise residents and force their displacement, he said.

In a statement carried by the Wafa news agency, Kamil said Israeli troops set fire to two more homes overnight, citing camp residents who reported soldiers in the area moments before the blazes began.

Kamil called the attacks a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and urged the UN, human-rights groups and the wider international community to intervene immediately and hold Israeli forces accountable.

Continued silence, he said, would amount to complicity in acts that “rise to the level of war crimes”.

Palestinian injured in settler attack near Hebron

A Palestinian man sustained wounds after Israelis from illegal settlements attacked homes in the village of al-Rakeez, part of the Masafer Yatta area, in the occupied West Bank.

Activist Osama Makhamra told the Wafa news agency that settlers from a nearby illegal outpost – built on privately owned Palestinian land east of Yatta – stormed the village under the protection of Israeli forces and assaulted residents.

One man from the al-Amour family suffered bruises and injuries as a result.

Israeli forces detained several residents and fired live rounds, stun grenades and tear gas during the raid.

Main events on July 21st

  • The Israeli military killed more than 60 Palestinians, including 11 aid seekers, in attacks across Gaza as it launched a ground invasion of central Deir el-Balah for the first time during the 21-month war.
  • Deadly malnutrition was reported throughout the Strip by the UN, international organisations, local authorities, and footage from hospitals. The Israeli blockade has also led to an acute shortage of drinking water.
  • Hamas said it is talking to other Palestinian factions and that it hopes an “honourable” ceasefire agreement can be reached as quickly as possible, which would end the “suffering of Palestinians”.
  • Israel’s government dismissed a statement by 25 countries – including the UK, France, Italy and Japan – that called for the immediate end of the war as “disconnected from reality”, while the US ambassador to Israel called it “disgusting”.
  • The Israeli army killed another Hezbollah member in southern Lebanon and bombed Yemen’s Hodeidah port. The Houthis launched drones from Yemen towards Israel, which were intercepted.
  • Palestinians were arrested during Israeli military raids in the occupied West Bank, which included torching a home in the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarem. Settler attacks have also continued in the occupied territory.
