Ben-Gvir hails Trumps Gaza clean-out idea

Israel seeks to ethnically cleanse as much of Gaza as possible

There it is. Gaza is already destroyed thanks to Israel. Destroyed the hospitals, the schools, the public services, it is already done. Now to go back to silently forcing Palestinians from their destroyed homes. Only then when they're out will they help restore the area. So that Israel can take over the rest of Gaza more quietly and Trump can build hotels on it. Back to the quiet ethnic cleansing and forced removal of Palestinians and the media will pretend everything is fine now just because the bombs aren't dropping anymore.

Also, Itamar Ben-Gvir is an even bigger sick fuck than Netanyahu.

Smotrich as well

Far-right Israeli minister welcomes Trump’s ‘clean out’ Gaza remarks

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has welcomed President Trump’s idea to “clean out” Gaza by relocating 1.5 million Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan.

“The idea of helping them find other places to start a better life is a great idea. After years of glorifying terrorism, they will be able to establish new and good lives in other places,” Smotrich said in a statement.

Earlier, Israel’s former national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir – who has a history of making inciting comments and provoking Palestinians – also welcomed Trump’s suggestion, saying the Israeli government should “encourage voluntary immigration”.

Such a drastic displacement of people would openly contradict Palestinian identity and deep connection to Gaza.

“Something has to happen,” Trump said. “But it’s literally a demolition site right now. Almost everything’s demolished, and people are dying there. So I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing in a different location, where they can maybe live in peace for a change.”

Ben-Gvir and Smotrich deserve to be dragged in front of the ICC as well next to Netanyahu (formerly Mileikowsky) and Yoav Gallant.

Btw Netanyahu has his roots in Russia... Nathan Mileikowsky (15 August 1879 – 4 February 1935) was a Russian-born Zionist political activist, rabbi, and writer. Mileikowsky's son was the scholar and academic Benzion Netanyahu, and his grandson is current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

And currently Trump is trying to bribe Jordan and Egypt in taking the Palestinians out of Gaza

Ethnic cleansing feared as Trump asks Jordan, Egypt to take Gaza residents

President Donald Trump says he would like to “just clean out” Gaza, urging Egypt and Jordan to take in more Palestinians from the coastal enclave.

Speaking with reporters on board Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said he had had a call earlier in the day with King Abdullah II of Jordan and would speak with Egypt President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi later on Sunday.

“I would like Egypt to take people. You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing and say: ‘You know, it’s over.’”

At least another 4 years of hell for Palestinians with Trump in power, plus the aftermath of all the further damage Trump will do to the area. Trump has already endorsed the IDF staying in Southern Lebanon for now while Israel keeps demolishing more towns there. Blowing up, bulldozing and setting homes on fire.

The IDF was supposed to be out of Lebanon today according to the ceasefire agreement from last November.

Lebanon Health Ministry updates number killed by Israel today

As we’ve been reporting, several incidents in southern Lebanon involving residents attempting to return to their homes have resulted in Israel killing civilians. The country’s Health Ministry now says 22 people have been killed and 124 wounded today.

This number includes nine children and a paramedic, the ministry said in a post on X.

Let's hope congress still has some sense

US senator says Trump’s plan to empty Gaza of Palestinians ‘not practical’

US Senator Lindsey Graham was visibly puzzled during an interview aired by CNN, where he was asked to comment on Trump’s controversial statement that he would like to “just clean out” Gaza.

“I don’t know what he’s talking about,” Graham said. “The idea that all the Palestinians are going to leave and go somewhere else, I don’t see that as being overly practical.”

“Does the Arab world support sending the Palestinians out of Gaza? I’d be surprised if they did,” he said.

Graham, who supports robust US assistance for Israel and has faced outcry over anti-Palestinian remarks, also stated that “Hamas is the problem for the world, not just for the Palestinians” and that the group should be destroyed.

Calling it 'not practical' is the understatement of the millennium, but I guess that's all we can hope to get from racists that don't consider Palestinians human beings.

“The Palestinians in Gaza are the most radicalized population on the planet who are taught to hate Jews from birth. It will take years to fix this problem,” Graham said in a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

The problem is they are 'radicalized'? Not that they are being oppressed, displaced and being murdered, beaten, tortured and illegally detained by Israel every single day...

Arab League says Palestinian displacement would be ‘ethnic cleansing’

The Arab League has warned against “attempts to uproot the Palestinian people from their land”, after Trump suggested moving its population to Egypt and Jordan.

“The forced displacement and eviction of people from their land can only be called ethnic cleansing,” the regional bloc’s general secretariat said in a statement.

Fatah rejects attempt to displace Palestinians from Gaza

The Fatah movement has firmly rejected any attempt to empty Gaza, saying that “Palestine belongs to the Palestinians who will not leave it”, after Trump suggested Palestinians could be relocated to Egypt and Jordan.

The people of Gaza “will not give up their land and the rubble of their homes, which they are waiting with great longing to return to”, it said in a statement.

It added that implementing the two-state solution and ending Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories “will expand the scope of peace to all neighbouring countries and the world”.

Trump’s words on Gaza’s displacement do not reflect planned policy

The US president’s suggestion that he would want to “clean out” Gaza of Palestinians likely does not reflect a planned policy, Rami Khouri, from the American University of Beirut, said.

“He’s repeating slogans by pro-Israelis and others. I wouldn’t take this too literally,” Khoury said. “But he has immense power and sometimes he pushes for things he wants done.”

“The Palestinians can be shot, can be pushed out, but they cannot be voluntarily displaced,” he added.

It actually was planned policy to push Palestinians out of Gaza into Egypt

Leaked document fuels concern Israel plans to push Palestinians from Gaza into Egypt

An Israeli government document suggesting the mass relocation of Gaza's 2.3 million people to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula is fuelling concerns about the possible ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

The leaked document, first reported in Israeli media, was compiled by an Israeli government research agency known as the Intelligence Ministry and was dated Oct. 13 — six days after Hamas led deadly attacks on Israel and the Israeli government declared war against the Palestinian militant group, which controls Gaza.

Israeli army says warning shots fired at Hezbollah vehicle in southern Lebanon

The Israeli army has said it fired warning shots in southern Lebanon as a vehicle with Hezbollah flags approached an area where its troops were stationed.

“The troops operated in order to remove the threat,” it said in a statement, without mentioning any injuries. It added that shots were also fired to disperse “rioters”.

Despite “Hezbollah’s attempts to return to southern Lebanon”, the Israeli military is determined to act in accordance with the terms of the ceasefire deal, it said.

The statement comes after Israeli forces killed 22 people and wounded dozens as they attempted to return to their homes in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops remained on the ground after a deadline for their withdrawal passed today.

Israel-Lebanon ceasefire deal extended until February 18: White House

The White House said Sunday that the ceasefire deal between Lebanon and Israel had been extended until February 18, as Israel missed a previous deadline to pull troops out.

“The arrangement between Lebanon and Israel, monitored by the United States, will continue to be in effect until February 18, 2025,” the White House said in a brief statement.

A ceasefire agreement reached in November had originally stated that Israel’s forces were supposed to withdraw from Lebanon by 02:00 GMT on Sunday.

However, on that day, Israeli forces killed 22 people in southern Lebanon, according to health officials.

In a statement, Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health said on Sunday that at least 124 people had also been wounded as the Israeli army opened fire as people tried to return to their homes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had blamed Lebanon for the delay, saying Hezbollah had not pulled back sufficiently from the border region. Lebanon denied that claim and urged Israel to respect the deadline.

Same excuse on Februari 18th... We'll see in 3 weeks.

One Palestinian killed, two injured by Israeli forces at Qalandiya checkpoint

The Palestinian Ministry of Health says a man was killed and two others injured after Israeli forces opened fire on them at the Qalandiya checkpoint located between the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem.

Qalandiya was built more than a decade ago as part of Israel’s separation barrier, which was deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice in 2004.

Israel to allow Palestinians to cross into northern Gaza on Monday

Netanyahu has confirmed that Israeli troops will allow Palestinians to cross into northern Gaza on Monday, after the release of three captives, including Arbel Yehud.

Netanyahu’s office said Yehud, soldier Agam Berger and another captive will be released by Hamas.

The Palestinian group said it handed over to mediators the list of captives to be released in the first phase of the ceasefire agreement.

Hamas to release Israeli captive Arbel Yehud and two others before Friday: Qatar

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has released a statement in which it said Hamas would hand over 29-year-old Arbel Yehud and two other captives before Friday.

The ministry also said that Israel would, in return, allow displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza starting Monday morning.

Qatar confirms agreement on Arbel Yehud’s release

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that an understanding has been reached between Israel and Hamas on the release of Arbel Yehud and two other captives before next Friday.

Spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said in a post on X that Hamas would also hand over three additional captives on Saturday in line with the agreement.

In return, Israeli authorities will allow the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza starting tomorrow morning.

Al-Ansari added that Hamas has agreed to hand over the list of captives to be released in the first part of the deal, while Israel would hand over a list of 400 people arrested since October 7, 2023.

Palestinians, forcibly displaced as a result of Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip for more than 15 months, try to get warm by lighting a fire as they continue to wait at a point close to the Netzarim Corridor on al-Rashid Street to return to their homes in the north after the completion of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement on January 26, 2025, in Gaza City, Gaza

  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will allow displaced Palestinians to return home to northern Gaza on Monday after mediators helped resolve a dispute over the release of a civilian captive, Arbel Yehoud.
  • The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) said Yehoud will be freed before Friday. Netanyahu said Israeli soldier Adam Berger and another captive would also be released.
  • Gaza’s Government Media Office condemned statements by US President Donald Trump, in which he proposed cleaning out the war-torn enclave and urged Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from the Strip.
  • Both Egypt and Jordan have firmly rejected Trump’s suggestion, saying it amounted to forced displacement of Palestinians.
  • The White House says the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has been extended until February 18, amid tensions over the Israeli killing of 22 people in southern parts of the country. Israeli forces had been due to fully withdraw from Lebanon by Monday.

UN says tens of thousands of Palestinians waiting at checkpoint in central Gaza

The UN’s humanitarian agency (OCHA) says that aid organisations and local charities have been helping tens of thousands of people gathered at a checkpoint central Gaza, seeking to return home or reunite with their loved ones.

OCHA, in a post on X, said that aid groups have been providing food and medical care to the crowds.

Palestinians have been gathering at the so-called Netzarim corridor, which separates north Gaza from the rest of the enclave, since Saturday. Israel was supposed to allow the displaced people to cross into the north on Sunday, but blocked their return following a dispute over the release of a female Israeli captive.

But as we’ve been reporting, Netanyahu has now confirmed that Palestinians will be allowed to cross the Netzarim corridor on Monday morning. According to Palestinian officials, there are some 650,000 displaced people waiting to return to the north.

Lebanon commits to truce extension with Israel

Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati says Lebanon has agreed to extend the ceasefire agreement with Israel until February 18.

The move came after a day of violence in which Israeli forces shot at Lebanese people trying to return to their homes in southern Lebanon, killing at least 22 and wounding dozens more.

According to the ceasefire deal announced between Israel and Hezbollah in November, Israeli troops had been due to withdraw from southern Lebanon on Sunday.

“The Lebanese government reaffirms its commitment… to continue implementing the ceasefire agreement until February 18, 2025,” Mikati said in a statement, according to the AFP news agency.

Earlier, we reported that the White House had said an agreement had been reached to extend the Israel-Lebanon deal until February 18.

Israeli forces storm Jenin Government Hospital

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic, citing Palestinian sources, are reporting that Israeli forces are conducting searches of patients and doctors at the Jenin Government Hospital in the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

The raid comes as Israeli forces continue a large-scale military operation against Palestinian fighters in and near the city of Jenin and its refugee camp.

The offensive, dubbed Iron Wall, began days after the ceasefire in Gaza. Israeli soldiers have since killed at least 14 people, including a two-year-old girl, and demolished roads and other infrastructure in the Jenin refugee camp.

Israel has partially withdrawn troops from Netzarim Corridor

Hamas will be releasing two batches of Israeli captives this week, on Thursday and Saturday. We do have two of the names: the person who has been front and centre of this entire dispute, Arbel Yehud. And we also have Agam Berger and she is a soldier.

And one more person we haven’t yet received the name of – who could be a US civilian.

Hamas was supposed to begin with the release of civilians. That would then be followed by soldiers, and then finally the sick, wounded, and elderly. But on Saturday, instead, we saw the release of four Israeli captives who were all soldiers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got together his top military brass. They discussed this and they decided it wasn’t worth giving up this ceasefire deal that is obviously so fragile.

They decided to go ahead with the release of 200 Palestinian prisoners, but then of course we saw the suffering of those many thousands of people at the Netzarim Corridor, which the Israelis decided not to open as per the deal. It’s a 7km stretch of land where Israel has set up Israeli military bases and essentially blocked the north from the middle and southern parts of Gaza. So finally, Israel said they would open it.

Now I have seen a map of this. There is only a partial withdrawal of the troops. They have essentially opened around three-quarters of that corridor. They’re still in very tight control of that, so they haven’t completely relinquished from that area.

And they did put up a number of caveats to say essentially no weapons, no fighters, and they’re going to allow people to walk in the first hours and then they will start checking transport vehicles going through later on.

Hamas hails return of displaced Palestinians to north Gaza

The group has issued a statement describing the return of displaced people as “a victory” for the Palestinians and a defeat for the Israelis, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.

It said the scenes of the return of Palestinians to the areas from which they were displaced confirm their link to their land and once again “prove the failure of the occupation to achieve the aggressive goals of displacing people and breaking their steadfast will”.

‘Historic’ return for Palestinians displaced since start of Gaza war

Finally, the moment has come and the dream of displaced Palestinians has come true. We are seeing a lot of people welcoming their loved ones. They’re bringing them water and food. We can see them hugging each other.

The families who are carrying their belongings and travelling by donkey or car will be allowed to do so at 9am local time from Salah al-Din Street.

These civilians will continue to suffer after the war ends because of the mass devastation that has been inflicted on the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Many houses are destroyed. Some people may also have to dig deep to retrieve their loved ones from under the rubble.

Still, the atmosphere here in the northern Gaza Strip is filled with happiness and joy. This is a historic moment for all Palestinians to witness the return of 1.5 million people forcibly displaced since the beginning of the war.

‘Day of victory,’ says Palestinian returnee to north Gaza

A forcibly displaced Palestinian man returning to northern Gaza has pledged to build back up what Israeli forces tore down.

“I will start rebuilding my home – brick by brick, wall by wall,” he told Al Jazeera. “We will start by removing the debris and rebuild it all over again.”

The man said it was a day of victory despite all the losses, grief, and destruction.

“After 15 months of suffering as Palestinians, as Gazans, namely as residents of Shujayea refugee camp, this is a day of joy. Although our homes have been destroyed flat into the earth, the entire north has been turned into scorched earth. Despite our pain, our grief, the destruction – this is a day of victory.”

Israel’s Ben-Gvir slams return of Palestinians to north Gaza

Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israeli former national security minister, who is known for his incendiary remarks against Palestinians, has decried the return of the displaced to northern Gaza as a victory for Hamas.

He wrote in a post on X:

“The opening of the Netzarim highway this morning and the entry of tens of thousands of Gazans into the northern Gaza Strip are images of Hamas’s victory and another humiliating part of the reckless deal. This is not what ‘complete victory’ looks like – this is what complete surrender looks like.

“The heroic [Israeli] soldiers did not fight and give their lives in the Gaza Strip to make these photos possible. We must return to war – and destroy!”

Ben-Gvir, who resigned his post earlier this month in protest of the ceasefire deal, has long been opposed to ending the war and has called for Israel to occupy Gaza.

‘A very important day in how to approach the conflict’: Hamas official

As thousands of Palestinians are heading home to northern Gaza after 15 months of forced displacement by the Israeli military, a senior Hamas official has described today as “the most important day in the current history of this conflict”.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Basem Naim argued that Israel was “for the first time” obliged to allow Palestinians to return to their houses after being forced “by the resistance”, in a similar way that it was “forced to release” Palestinian prisoners.

“This is, I think, a very symbolic day,” he added. “This is a very important day in how to approach this conflict with the Israelis, which language they understand.”

Naim also reiterated Hamas’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement and said the group was “ready to do the maximum to give this deal a chance to succeed”.

He accused Netanyahu and the Israeli government of playing “dirty games” to “sabotage the deal” but added: “We will not give him any excuse, but we will try with the mediators to avoid any obstacle.”

Naim also said he expected the next round of negotiations, which is due to start on the 16th day of the first phase of the agreement, to be “very difficult” and “complicated”.

‘We are going to rebuild our homes brick by brick, wall by wall’

Al Jazeera has spoken to another displaced Palestinian heading back to his hometown of Beit Hanoon in northern Gaza.

The man described today’s scenes as “memorable” and a mix of “grief with joy”.

“I am returning home, I know my home has been flattened, I am grieving the loved ones I lost but we are telling the whole world: We are holding steadfast to our home soil, to our homeland,” he said from the coastal al-Rashid Street.

“We are going to rebuild our homes brick by brick, wall by wall and we will relive all the sweet memories we had in the past.”

The returnee said he expected the coming days to be “difficult” but expressed hope that peace would prevail and there would be no more war.

“And that the people will lend us a helping hand, start the rebuilding process, and we will be able to resume our normal way of life and bring our children back to school.”

Netzarim Corridor ‘equivalent to a death trap’

It’s a flood of people. We understand some have already made their way to northern Gaza City’s centre all on foot as Salah al-Din Street is only designated by Israeli forces for walking.

The Netzarim Corridor for the majority of people here represented an area equivalent to a death trap – a symbol of death, sadness and agony. As they were forced into displacement they had to go through the Israeli military checkpoints. Some were detained, some were tortured, some were stripped naked and dehumanized.

Netzarim, this 6km (4-mile) area, is not just empty land. The Israeli army literally destroyed every single building, every public facility, and bulldozed every plot of land to build its military base and set up its surveillance system.

Al Jazeera’s Moath al-Kahlout has been speaking to forcibly displaced Palestinians who’ve been allowed back into north Gaza for the first time since Israel’s war began.

‘The joy of return’: Palestinians recall 1948 as they walk back home

Ismail Abu Matter, a father of four who waited for three days before crossing into northern Gaza with his family, described scenes of jubilation on the other side with people singing, praying and crying as they reunited with relatives.

“It’s the joy of return,” said Abu Matter, whose family was among the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who fled or were driven out of what is now Israel during the 1948 war surrounding its creation. “We had thought we wouldn’t return, like our ancestors.”

Hamas said the return is “a victory for our people and a declaration of failure and defeat for the [Israeli] occupation and transfer plans”.

Displaced Palestinians return to their homes in the northern Gaza Strip

‘Historic, symbolic moment’ for the Palestinians

Al Jazeera journalist Tamer Almisshal says the jubilant scenes from Gaza of tens of thousands of Palestinians returning home to the north show their determination to survive under the 15-month onslaught by Israel’s military.

“It’s a significant and historic moment for the Palestinians because it’s the first time since 1948 those who have been forced out of their homes and land managed to get back – despite the destruction and despite the genocide,” he said.

He quoted one Palestinian man who returned as saying he’ll erect a tent on his destroyed home, “which is much better than being forcibly displaced from Gaza”.

As for the ceasefire, Almisshal noted Hamas recently said 18 more Israeli captives are alive and will be returned each Saturday in exchange for Palestinian prisoners over the next few weeks. He said the next main step is to get the Rafah land crossing opened so aid can flow in and thousands of badly wounded Palestinians can get medical treatment abroad.
