Netzarim Corridor ‘equivalent to a death trap’

It’s a flood of people. We understand some have already made their way to northern Gaza City’s centre all on foot as Salah al-Din Street is only designated by Israeli forces for walking.

The Netzarim Corridor for the majority of people here represented an area equivalent to a death trap – a symbol of death, sadness and agony. As they were forced into displacement they had to go through the Israeli military checkpoints. Some were detained, some were tortured, some were stripped naked and dehumanized.

Netzarim, this 6km (4-mile) area, is not just empty land. The Israeli army literally destroyed every single building, every public facility, and bulldozed every plot of land to build its military base and set up its surveillance system.
