Ceasefire could impact Iran’s reaction to Israeli strikes: Pezeshkian

Iran’s president says a potential ceasefire between its allies and Israel “could affect the intensity” of Tehran’s response to Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian military sites.

“If they [the Israelis] reconsider their behaviour, accept a ceasefire, and stop massacring the oppressed and innocent people of the region, it could affect the intensity and type of our response,” Masoud Pezeshkian was quoted by state news agency IRNA as saying.

The Israeli military launched strikes last week on military bases in Iran, hitting about 20 sites over several hours in Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran.

Yemen’s Houthis will keep blockade on Israeli vessels amid asset sale reports

Yemen’s Houthis say they’ll maintain their maritime blockade against Israeli vessels in response to “intelligence information” regarding Israeli shipping companies selling their assets to other firms.

Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson of the group, said in a televised address that the Houthis would not recognise any changes of ownership and warned against any collaboration with these companies.

The Houthis are an Iran-aligned group based in Yemen and have said their attacks are a response to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, and the international community’s failure to put an end to it.

Israeli authorities probe suspected Gaza intelligence leak

A suspected leak of classified Gaza documents involving an aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has jolted Israeli politics and outraged the families of captives held by Hamas who have been pushing for a deal to get their loved ones home.

Details of the case have been trickling out only slowly because of a gag order. But a court ruling partially lifting the order has provided an initial glimpse of the case, which the court said compromised security sources and may have harmed Israel’s war effort.

On Friday, the magistrates’ court confirmed a number of suspects had been arrested as part of the probe into a suspected “security breach caused by the illegal provision of classified information”.

Netanyahu has denied any wrongdoing by his office staffers, and said in a statement on Saturday that he was only made aware of the leaked document by the media.

Israeli foreign minister: We will not allow Hamas to rule to Gaza

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz says Hamas must be dismantled, and all captives must be returned home.

“The measures we have taken in Tehran, Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon have changed the equation, and Israel has regained its position and strength,” Katz said in comments to Israeli media.

‘Positive’ dialogue among Palestinian factions in Egypt

Talks among Palestinian factions in Cairo have been “positive”, senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan has said. However, speaking to the Palestinian group’s Al-Aqsa TV, he said he did not want to rush to conclusions.

Hamdan also said that Hamas had not received any new written proposals regarding a possible ceasefire in Gaza.

Israeli forces kill Palestinian child in occupied West Bank

According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Israeli soldiers shot dead a 14-year-old child in Halhul, near Hebron, in the southern West Bank.

PRCS identified the teenage boy as Naji Nidal al-Baba.

At least 4 killed in Gaza’s Jabalia camp

Medical sources say at least four people were killed and dozens of others injured after Israeli aircraft targeted a house in the Toba area, west of the Jabalia refugee camp, in northern Gaza, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.

Jabalia has been under siege by Israeli forces, along with the rest of northern Gaza, since early October. Aid has been blocked and hundreds of people killed, including more than 50 children, in attacks on Jabalia in the past 48 hours.

More than 100,000 suffering from food, water shortages in north Gaza

The spokesman for the Palestinian Civil Defence agency in Gaza provided an update on conditions in northern Gaza after Israel’s weeks-long siege of the area.

  • More than 100,000 people are without food, water, and medicine.
  • Continuous bombings by Israeli forces are targeting inhabited homes in the region.
  • The local medical system and Civil Defence are out of service.
  • The Israeli army is not allowing rescue operations or the recovery of victims.

UNICEF warns of dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza

The United Nations children’s agency has warned that the entire population in northern Gaza is at imminent risk of dying from disease and famine.

Two killed, others injured, after Israeli attack on northern Gaza

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic report that two Palestinians were killed and others injured in an Israeli attack on a house in Beit Lahiya.

The UN has described the situation in parts of northern Gaza as “apocalyptic” as Israel continues to block humanitarian aid and launch attacks from the ground, air and sea.

‘We have been abandoned by the whole world’

Dr Hussam Abu Safia, director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, described the challenges he’s facing in treating the many wounded Palestinians seeking care.

“In this war, we’ve had to learn to do everything. As Israeli forces stormed the hospital and detained the entire medical staff, I, together with my assistant physician, we were left alone between a rock and hard place, either to give up or start doing what we can to save lives,” Abu Safiya told Al Jazeera.

“We’ve been flooded with victims suffering all kinds of injuries… I have a message for the world – not only to the WHO, the Red Cross and the international community – but also to the proponents of international law and all those who pontificate on humanity and human rights: An urgent humanitarian passage must be opened without delay to have fuel and medical supplies delivered, and also to allow for specialised medical staff to come and lend a helping hand.

“We have been abandoned by the whole world and left to work under unimaginably harsh and horrifying conditions.”

Israeli forces hit Gaza City home killing 2 Palestinians

We are getting reports of another Israeli attack on a home in Gaza, this time in the Tuffah neighbourhood, east of Gaza City. Our colleagues on the ground say at least two people have been killed and others wounded.

Child severely injured as tank fires on Gaza hospital

Health officials at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya in besieged northern Gaza say the facility came under Israeli tank fire and one child who has been hospitalised has been critically wounded.

Hussam Abu Safia, the hospital’s director, said the incident took place after a delegation from the World Health Organization visited the facility and evacuated some patients.

While evacuating the wounded is important, it’s more important to dispatch specialised medical teams to north Gaza hospitals that have become overwhelmed by the number of casualties during Israel’s monthlong ground incursion, he said.

Abu Safiya said the tank fire hit water supplies, the courtyard and the neonatal intensive care unit.

Main points for November 3rd

  • Israel’s military continued its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinians in Gaza City and four more in Jabalia a day after killing 35 people in attacks across the enclave.
  • The Palestinian Civil Defence appealed for international intervention, accusing the Israeli military of preventing rescue operations in northern Gaza, where ongoing attacks and a siege have trapped 100,000 people without access to food, water and medicine.
  • In Lebanon, Israeli forces killed two paramedics in a raid on a health facility in southern Bazouriyeh, while Hezbollah claimed that it fired a barrage of missiles at an Israeli military base in the coastal city of Haifa.
  • Israel’s military also said its forces carried out a ground raid and seized a Syrian citizen it accused of spying for Iran. The announcement came a day after Israeli soldiers abducted a Lebanese man from a town on Lebanon’s coast in a similar operation.
  • Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said that if Israel accepts a ceasefire and stops “massacring the oppressed and innocent people of the region, it could affect the intensity and type” of Iran’s response to Israel’s attacks on the country.
  • Turkey said it has delivered a letter to the United Nations, signed by 52 countries, calling for an end to arms deliveries to Israel. The signatories included Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Algeria, China, Iran and Russia.

Harris promises to end war in Gaza if elected

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has made a final pitch to Arab Americans while campaigning in the state of Michigan, two days before the US’s presidential election.

In an apparent acknowledgement of the anger over her support for Israel, she said “this year has been difficult, given the scale of death and destruction in Gaza and given the civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon”.

“It is devastating, and as president, I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza”, she said to applause, “to bring home the hostages, end the suffering in Gaza, ensure Israel is secure and ensure the Palestinian people can realise their right to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination”.

Harris’s remarks echoed what she has been saying on the campaign trail for weeks, and critics have slammed her for failing to condition US assistance to Israel as it wages war on Gaza and Lebanon.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon wound 10, damage two hospitals

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said that an Israeli raid on the vicinity of the Governmental Hospital in the southern town of Tebnine has caused “severe damage” to the facility and wounded at least 10 people.

The victims included seven people who were wounded inside the hospital and three who were injured outside, it said.

The ministry also reported a separate attack on the Governmental Hospital in the eastern city of Baalbek. It said the facility – which is crowded with patients and the wounded – sustained material damage.

The attacks came as an Israeli raid on the southern town of Bazouriyeh killed at least two paramedics.

The WHO has previously said that Israel’s attacks on Lebanon between September 17 and October 31 have killed at least 85 health workers and wounded 51 others while they were on duty.

Nearly 500,000 people have arrived in Syria from Lebanon since September

The UN’s refugee agency (UNHCR) is reporting that an estimated 472,000 people have crossed from Lebanon into Syria since September 23, following the escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.

The figure included 32,829 Lebanese refugees and 216,369 Syrians who had fled to Lebanon following the outbreak of the civil war in their country.

The vast majority of those arriving in Syria had fled from southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces have carried out intense attacks on a daily basis.

Four killed, three wounded in Israeli attack on eastern Lebanon

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) is reporting that the killings happened in the town of Machghara in the Bekaa Valley following an overnight Israeli raid.

The agency also reported several Israeli attacks on southern and eastern Lebanon overnight, including on Jebchit, Tefahta, Khiam, Burj al-Muluk, Jouaiya, Halousiya, Deir Qanoun en-Nahr, Qlaileh and the area between Roumine and Aazze.

Israel’s military claims Hezbollah commander killed in south Lebanon

The military said Abu Ali Rida was killed in the Baraachit area in southern Lebanon. It said in a post on X that Rida “directed and executed” attacks on Israeli forces and commanded Hezbollah fighters in the region. The military added that its forces were continuing to operate in southern Lebanon, destroying Hezbollah infrastructure and attacking the group’s fighters.

Hezbollah has made no statement on Israel’s claims.

Israeli air raids damage Baalbek’s historic and governmental sites

Israeli air strikes have left significant destruction across the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek, hitting historic landmarks, government structures, and civilian areas.

In the nearby town of Douris, a civilian house was also targeted, leading to the complete destruction of the structure, the head of the Baalbek Municipalities Union, Shafiq Qassem Shehadeh, told Reuters.

There was also severe damage caused to the surrounding area, including the municipal building and Christian cemeteries, he added, noting that the residential target had not been on Israel’s list of forced evacuations.

On Friday, Lebanon’s health ministry said 52 people were killed in Israeli strikes on more than a dozen towns in the Baalbek region, which has UNESCO-listed Roman ruins.

Israeli air raid targets civilian sites near Damascus: Report

Syria’s official SANA news agency reports that “the Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack” targeting civilian areas south of the capital, Damascus.

The agency cited the Syrian Defence Ministry as saying the Israeli air strike “came from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights” and it caused only material damage. The Israeli military did not comment on the strike, the first on or near Damascus since an early October attack that hit a residential building, killing seven people.

The Sayeda Zeinab suburb is a Hezbollah stronghold and has been targeted in previous strikes. Syrian and Western intelligence sources said Israeli attacks in Syria have killed numerous Hezbollah and pro-Iranian militia fighters on the outskirts of Damascus.

Outrage after UK police arrest retired Jewish professor

Several academics and writers have expressed dismay after police in the United Kingdom arrested retired professor and filmmaker Haim Bresheeth after he gave a speech at a pro-Palestinian protest in London.

Bersheeth is a child of Holocaust survivors who grew up in Israel and is also the founder of the activist group, Jewish Network for Palestine.

The group said Bersheeth was arrested on November 1 on “spurious charges of terrorism” but was released later that night. His case has been referred to the Crown Prosecution Service, it said.

Journalist Antony Loewenstein, in a post on X, described Bresheeth’s arrest as “absurd and dangerous” and noted that he was detained after giving a “considered speech on Palestine”.

Writer Jonathan Cook, in another post on X, said the video recording of Breseeth’s speech meant “we can all hear for ourselves that nothing he said contravened the draconian Terrorism Act”.

Activists vandalise Glasgow office of pro-Israel company

Members of the Action for Palestine group vandalised the Allianz insurance company in Glasgow, Scotland, spraying it with red paint, according to footage verified by Al Jazeera.

Activists daubed the offices of the German insurance company with red paint in protest over the company’s links with Elbit Systems. The group said Allianz provides insurance to Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons company which works closely with the Israeli military.

On its instagram page, the group wrote: “Days after repairs following our last move, activists returned to Allianz’s office in Glasgow, which provides insurance and invests in Israel’s largest weapons company (Elbit Systems). Without insurance, Elbit cannot operate in Britain.”

Pro-Palestine vigil in Belgium includes burning of Balfour Declaration

Pro-Palestine activists in the Belgian city of Ghent have burned papers with the text of the Balfour Declaration during a protest against Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, video verified by Al Jazeera shows.
