Israeli authorities probe suspected Gaza intelligence leak

A suspected leak of classified Gaza documents involving an aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has jolted Israeli politics and outraged the families of captives held by Hamas who have been pushing for a deal to get their loved ones home.

Details of the case have been trickling out only slowly because of a gag order. But a court ruling partially lifting the order has provided an initial glimpse of the case, which the court said compromised security sources and may have harmed Israel’s war effort.

On Friday, the magistrates’ court confirmed a number of suspects had been arrested as part of the probe into a suspected “security breach caused by the illegal provision of classified information”.

Netanyahu has denied any wrongdoing by his office staffers, and said in a statement on Saturday that he was only made aware of the leaked document by the media.

Israeli foreign minister: We will not allow Hamas to rule to Gaza

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz says Hamas must be dismantled, and all captives must be returned home.

“The measures we have taken in Tehran, Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon have changed the equation, and Israel has regained its position and strength,” Katz said in comments to Israeli media.

‘Positive’ dialogue among Palestinian factions in Egypt

Talks among Palestinian factions in Cairo have been “positive”, senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan has said. However, speaking to the Palestinian group’s Al-Aqsa TV, he said he did not want to rush to conclusions.

Hamdan also said that Hamas had not received any new written proposals regarding a possible ceasefire in Gaza.
