Rockets fired from Lebanon at northern Israeli towns

Air defences and warning sirens have been activated in dozens of towns in northern Israel on the border with Lebanon as interceptor missiles exploded in the air due to rocket attacks.

Sirens have also sounded in the city of Haifa and its bay as rockets were launched towards it.

Hezbollah sends ‘large rocket salvo’ at Israeli military base

Hezbollah has now said it fired rockets towards an Israeli military base north of Israel’s Haifa in response to Israeli attacks on its strongholds in southern Lebanon.

“The large rocket salvo” came in retaliation for Israeli attacks on south Lebanon villages, Hezbollah announced after the Israeli army said a barrage of projectiles was fired from Lebanon into northern Israel.

Israeli Army Radio is reporting at least 13 people have been injured in these rocket attacks today.

Smoke billowing from town in northern Israel

Live footage now shows smoke billowing from Shlomi, a town in northern Israel near the border with Lebanon. We earlier reported that Hezbollah fired rockets towards an Israeli military base north of Haifa. Israel said a drone also hit Netanyahu’s house in Caesarea.

Where has Hezbollah carried out today’s attacks?

Hezbollah says it carried out attacks on:

  • Safad
  • Philon base in Rosh Pina, east of Safad
  • Krayot, north of Haifa
  • Shlomi settlement
  • Al-Bassa settlement
  • Military base in Nesher
  • Settlement of Kiryat Shmona
  • A group of Israeli soldiers at the al-Marj site and in the settlement of Zarit

Israel said a Hezbollah drone also hit Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea, north of Tel Aviv.

One person in Israel confirmed dead in Hezbollah’s rocket attacks

As we’ve reported, Hezbollah has launched massive rocket attacks on northern Israel that wounded 13 people. Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh is reporting that one person has been confirmed dead in the attack.

“One confirmed death in this 100-rocket attack … covering an area that spans from northern Israel all the way to Haifa and the Bay of Haifa, where hundreds of thousands of residents live,” she reported from Amman, Jordan, because Al Jazeera has been banned from Israel and the occupied West Bank.

Two killed in Israeli strike in Jounieh, north of Beirut

Lebanese authorities said at least two people were killed in an Israeli strike in Jounieh, north of Beirut, in the first strike on the area since Hezbollah and Israel started trading fire last year.

The Health Ministry said an “Israeli enemy raid” hit a car in Jounieh, with Lebanese state media saying the attack occurred on a key highway linking the capital to the country’s north.

Israel army issues new evacuation call for south Beirut residents

The Israeli army warned residents to leave parts of southern Beirut, a warning usually followed by attacks on those areas of the Lebanese capital.

“Urgent warning to residents of the southern suburb [of Dahiyeh], specifically those in… Haret Hreik neighbourhood: You are located near facilities and interests belonging to Hezbollah, against which the IDF (Israeli army) will be operating in the near future,” a military spokesman wrote on X.

Mayor among four killed in Israeli strike on eastern Lebanon

Lebanon’s National News Agency is reporting that an Israeli air raid that targeted an apartment in the town of Baaloul in the Western Bekaa district has killed four people, including the mayor of Sahmar, Haidar Shahla.

Several people were wounded in the attack, the report said. Search and rescue teams are searching for missing people under the rubble.

Lebanon security source says Israel strikes southern Beirut suburbs

At least two Israeli air strikes have hit the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, a security source says. Footage showed plumes of smoke rising over the area less than an hour after the Israeli military issued an evacuation order.

Israeli army tells residents to leave building in southern Beirut suburbs

The Israeli army has announced new evacuation orders for people living in a residential building and those adjacent to it in Burj al-Barajneh.

“This is an urgent warning to the residents of Dahiyeh, specifically those located in the building marked on the map in Burj al-Barajneh,” military spokesman Avichay Adraee said on X.

“You are located near facilities and interests that belong to Hezbollah that will be targeted by the Israeli army in the near future.”

The Israeli army issued a warning earlier for Beirut’s Haret Hreik neighbourhood, shortly before smoke from Israeli air strikes could be seen above the suburbs.

Israel continuing air assaults on southern suburbs

We have now received the third forced evacuation threat by the Israeli military in the past two hours or so, this time warning the residents of Burj al-Barajneh – a neighbourhood in the southern suburb of Beirut that is very close to the airport.

This is an area that has come under attack in the past. We saw earlier in the Haret Hreik neighbourhood, also in the southern suburb of Beirut, at least four air attacks by Israel.

Now, this is the first time we have seen these kinds of attacks since last Wednesday following comments made by the caretaker Prime Minister Najeeb Mikati a day before, saying he had received assurances from the Biden administration that Israel would rein in its attacks on the capital, Beirut, and its southern suburb.

EU chief diplomat calls for ceasefire after Sinwar’s death

The European Union’s foreign policy chief says a ceasefire was a priority in Israel’s regional conflicts, and that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar by Israeli forces could increase the chances of achieving it.

“After the killing of Sinwar a new perspective is open and we have to use it to reach a ceasefire, a release the remaining (Israeli) hostages and to look for a political perspective,” Josep Borrell, the EU’s top diplomat, told reporters at a meeting of G7 defence ministers in Naples.

He also said the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, could be strengthened, having come under fire in clashes between Israel and its Lebanese enemy Hezbollah.

“UN forces have to be respected all over the world … maybe the mission of the UNIFIL has to be reviewed but the first thing to do is a ceasefire,” Borrell said, adding it would be up to the United Nations Security Council to make decisions on UNIFIL.

The wars are only escalating further. Bombing of Gaza is only increasing and Hezbollah is only fighting back harder. Calling for a ceasefire hasn't worked since the temporary pause last November. Stop calling, start acting.

‘All genocides in Gaza and Lebanon should stop’: Erdogan

At a news conference with visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for the international community to pressure Israel into ending what he called Israeli “genocides” in Gaza and Lebanon.

Speaking in Istanbul, Erdogan said the two leaders discussed “the genocidal war waged by Israel against Gaza and all the attacks against Lebanon. The tragic humanitarian situation that the region is living in was also one of the topics.”

Turkey has urged an immediate ceasefire and the entrance of humanitarian aid into the Strip, Erdogan said.

“We, as an international community, need to exert pressure on Israel so all the genocides in Gaza and Lebanon should stop. As long as these genocides are ongoing, our region cannot achieve peace and stability,” he added.

“Over 50,000 people have been killed. All those with a conscience need to take responsibility to put an end to this Israeli approach, and we will continue to work on this path.”

How Sinwar’s killing shattered Israel’s narrative

Claims that Yahya Sinwar was hiding in tunnels surrounded by captives, beneath civilian centres in Gaza, were used to justify Israel’s genocidal assault on the enclave.

His killing, above ground, following a firefight with Israeli forces, undermines many of the narratives that have come from Israeli officials and news outlets over the past year.

Director of Indonesian Hospital in Gaza says Israeli tanks have surrounded building

Israeli tanks have completely surrounded the Indonesian Hospital in Bait Lahiya, northern Gaza, and cut off the medical facility’s electricity supply, our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues report, citing Dr Marwan al-Sultan.

Israeli forces have bombed the hospital, targeting the second and third floors with artillery shells, putting medical staff and patients at serious risk, according to al-Sultan.

Al Jazeera Arabic’s correspondent in Gaza also reports that Israeli forces have begun demolishing parts of the hospital.

Israeli forces also besiege Gaza’s al-Awda hospital

The Israeli military is also laying siege to the al-Awda Hospital in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza, according to the Al Mayadeen news outlet and the Quds News Network.

Earlier, we reported that Israeli tanks had surrounded the Indonesian Hospital in nearby Beit Lahiya. Israeli forces struck the second and third floors of the hospital with artillery shells, putting medical staff and patients at serious risk, according to director Dr Marwan al-Sultan.

Displaced Palestinians are sheltering in the grounds of both hospitals. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

Israeli attacks target al-Awda and Kamal Adwan hospitals

Our colleagues are reporting that Israeli attacks have targeted al-Awda Hospital in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza. Israeli forces have also now fired on the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, meaning that all three major hospitals in northern Gaza have come under attack in recent hours.

Earlier, we reported that Israeli tanks had surrounded the Indonesian Hospital, also in Beit Lahiya, and shelled the building. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

Israel’s military siege of northern Gaza

Amid its weeks-long siege of northern Gaza, the Israeli military has carried out more deadly attacks in the area overnight.

  • In the Jabalia refugee camp, 33 people were killed and 85 wounded, while a second attack in the area saw four people killed in a strike on a house.
  • Israeli forces are also besieging northern Gaza’s three main hospitals – the Indonesian Hospital, the al-Awda Hospital and the Kamal Adwan Hospital.
  • Since October 5, Israel’s military has carried out extensive operations and issued evacuation orders for civilians covering virtually all of the north, where an estimated 400,000 people are trapped without access to food, water or medicine.
  • In Jabalia, tanks have reached the heart of the camp and are destroying dozens of houses daily from the air and ground. There are also reports of a telecommunications blackout.
  • More than 450 people have been killed in Israel’s northern Gaza assault over the past two weeks.

Israeli drone shoots Palestinian child dead in Gaza

A Palestinian child was shot dead by an Israeli drone on al-Nafaq Street in central Gaza, our colleagues on the ground have reported, sharing the gruesome footage online.

The video also shows Israeli forces attacking those that came to the child’s rescue. The area was also struck by two missiles.

Israeli drone killing of Palestinian child part of ‘widespread’ executions: UN expert

The extrajudicial killing of Palestinian children in Gaza by Israeli soldiers is “systematic and widespread”, and intended to “destroy” the Palestinian people, a UN expert said.

Francesca Albanese, UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, made her comments following the release of video footage showing the execution-like shooting of a child in central Gaza by an Israeli drone.

The harrowing video clip captures the killing and then a missile attack on those who went to the child’s rescue.

“While these scenes are hard to process, it is important to understand that extrajudicial executions of Palestinian civilians – often children – are absolutely not isolated incidents,” Albanese wrote in a post on social media.

“These events represent a part of the systematic and widespread actions being carried out by Israeli soldiers in Gaza. The rationale? The opportunity to target (and destroy) the Palestinians, which the State of Israel appears determined not to let slip away,” she said.

Israeli army kills one, wounds several at Kamal Adwan Hospital

Gaza’s Health Ministry says Israeli forces targeted the entrance of the laboratory of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, killing one person and wounding several others.

The Israeli forces have been carrying out a large-scale operation in northern Gaza, which is also under siege with families trapped there.

‘Decomposing and eaten by stray dogs’: Bodies in the streets of bombed, besieged Jabalia

Fares Afana, head of emergency services in northern Gaza, told Al Jazeera that ambulance crews and rescue workers are unable to retrieve the wounded and dying in Jabalia, while the bodies of the dead are lying in the streets “decomposing and eaten by stray dogs”.

“We received several emergency calls from people in the vicinity of Abu Ghazala School. However, we cannot respond to these calls as the Israeli soldiers deployed in the area are denying us access,” Afana said.

“It is confirmed that many dead bodies as well as wounded civilians are still lying in these residential homes. We had earlier appealed to the international community, namely the Red Cross, to act swiftly to at least spare the lives of those dying victims, and recover and bury the dead,” he said.

“Many of the dead are left on the streets, decomposing and eaten by stray dogs, as the [Israeli army] continue to deny paramedics access to the bombed areas,” he added.

Smell of death everywhere in Jabalia

Israeli bombardment in the north did not slow down throughout the night. Jabalia refugee camp remains under a crippling blockade, which has been going on for 15 days.

Within the past 24 hours, the situation has significantly deteriorated, according to witnesses, who said the camp is surrounded by Israeli tanks and destruction is everywhere. The smell of death is in every corner of the Jabalia refugee camp.

Witnesses say the Israeli army has thrust deeper into the main areas in Jabalia, adding that hospitals there are also surrounded by the Israeli forces. There have been confirmed clashes with Hamas operatives and families are still trapped in the camp as houses and buildings keep being destroyed.

Death toll from Israeli attack on Maghazi refugee camp rises to 11

We reported earlier that five people were killed in an overnight attack by Israel’s military on a house in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah.

The number of dead has now risen to 11 with more people missing and believed to be trapped under the rubble of the destroyed home, which belonged to the Shana’a family, Palestine’s state news agency Wafa reports.

Two patients die in ICU after Israeli forces destroy hospital’s generator

Our colleagues on the ground are reporting that the Israeli army is advancing from the east of Jabalia as it continues its deadly siege of northern Gaza which is now in its third week.

Hundreds of families had to flee as the Israeli army intensified its bombing on the residential areas while two patients died in the ICU of the Indonesian Hospital after Israeli forces besieged it and destroyed the generator.

Another school-turned-shelter hit by Israeli attack

An Israeli attack on a school in Shati camp housing displaced Palestinians has killed and wounded many people. The Palestinian Civil Defence confirmed the attack and said it was on the UNRWA-affiliated Asmaa School.

Israeli attack kills four people in Nuseirat

Our colleagues on the ground are reporting that four people from the same family were killed in Israeli artillery shelling on a residential building west of Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.

This comes after seven people were killed and many wounded in an Israeli attack on a UNRWA school sheltering displaced Palestinians in Shati camp.

Situation in northern Gaza keeps escalating

Local sources have confirmed to us that the Israeli military hit the yard of the Kemal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya. The attack was close to one of the main buildings, where ambulances are usually stationed and operate.

Separately, a full blackout is reported at the Indonesian Hospital, leading to the death of two Palestinian patients. The Indonesian Hospital is surrounded by the Israeli military and the people in it are trapped.

Attacks on residential buildings and evacuation centres have also further intensified.

The Israeli military has been conducting a mass arrest campaign at evacuation centres, where soldiers take men to undisclosed locations.

Medical sources say more than 450 people have been killed in 15 days of the Israeli siege of the Jabalia refugee camp as the army keeps destroying buildings with families trapped in them.

Israeli forces intensifying attacks in northern Gaza

Just in the past hour, we have observed a police surge and intensification of Israeli attacks on the central areas, in particular in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Just a few kilometres from where we are now, a residential house was flattened by Israeli fighter jets. At least four Palestinians have been killed and sent to Al-Aqsa Hospital along with a number of other casualties. The attack left a great level of destruction in the already battered camp.

In Maghazi, 11 Palestinians were confirmed killed at a residential building that was destroyed earlier – seven of them from the same family. We are getting disturbing details from the north of the Strip on families being trapped and calling for help in Jabalia refugee camp.

Israeli military tanks are surrounding all directions of Jabalia as battles are raging alongside a very tight siege of the north. We have reported earlier that the Indonesian Hospital was hit by Israeli artillery – especially the second and third floors of the building – as well as the courtyard of Kamal Adwan Hospital.

There have also been more attacks on Gaza City in Shati refugee camp, where a shelter was hit and at least seven Palestinians were killed.

Northern Gaza hospitals out of service after intense Israeli attacks

A Gaza health official has told Al Jazeera that all three hospitals in northern Gaza that have been under attack and siege by Israeli forces are now out of service. “We cannot count the number of those killed. The numbers are terrifying,” the official added.

The Indonesian, al-Awda and Kamal Adwan hospitals in northern Gaza have been attacked by Israeli forces, including by bombardment and artillery shelling.

Israeli attack kills five in Jabalia: Civil defence

Five people have been killed and several wounded in an Israeli bombing of a residential area in Jabalia, northern Gaza, according to Gaza’s civil defence. The residential al-Balad area includes the Hissi, Daghma and Raihan families and casualties are mostly children, a statement on Telegram said.

Israeli forces have been conducting a large-scale operation in northern Gaza, which is under siege, as they destroy residential buildings and carry out mass arrests, with families stuck there.

Israel drops leaflets over Gaza showing Sinwar’s body

Israeli planes have dropped leaflets over southern Gaza showing a picture of dead Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar with the message that “Hamas will no longer rule Gaza”, echoing language used by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Whoever drops the weapon and hands over the hostages will be allowed to leave and live in peace,” the leaflet, written in Arabic, read, according to residents of the southern city of Khan Younis and images circulating online.

The leaflet’s wording was from a statement made by Netanyahu on Thursday after Sinwar was killed by Israeli soldiers in Rafah, in the south near the Egyptian border, a day earlier.

‘Not a normal siege’ in Jabalia

The siege on Jabalia continues for a 15th day. It’s not a normal siege. It’s endless air strikes and endless artillery shelling. Israeli forces are actually invading houses, kicking people out and also forcing them to evacuate and to leave their houses.

We have been seeing footage from the northern parts of the Gaza Strip, especially Jabalia, where Palestinians are on the move, evacuating under endless fire. Not being able to reach food, water, medicine, hospitals – all of this is adding more misery for the Palestinians in Jabalia.

We’re talking about 200,000 Palestinians in those areas.

The Ministry of Health said they are unable to count those killed or injured due to the high number of casualties. There are hundreds of people trapped under the rubble.

There’s no internet, and that’s why it’s very hard to know what is currently happening, but we know that the air strikes have not stopped. Israeli soldiers are kicking people out of their houses and also people are succumbing to their wounds.

Rescue under way after Israeli attack on Gaza school sheltering displaced

Rescuers and civilians have gathered at Asmaa School, a shelter for displaced people in Gaza’s Shati refugee camp, to search for survivors beneath the rubble following an Israeli attack.

Earlier, we reported that the Palestinian Civil Defence confirmed the attack and said it was on an UNRWA-affiliated school-turned-shelter. The Israeli attack has left seven Palestinians dead and wounded others, according to Palestinian health officials.

Civil defence officer Abdullah al-Majlawi said multiple classrooms were hit and that they were still searching for missing people under the rubble.

20,000 more Palestinians flee northern Gaza as Israeli military operation intensifies, UN says

A further 20,000 people were forced to flee Jabalya camp in northern Gaza on Friday amid intense fighting, the United Nations said, with many seeking refuge in the organization’s shelters.

People have lost everything. They need everything, including food, water, blankets, and mattresses – the basics of the basics,” said Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Although a dozen trucks of flour were allowed into Gaza City this week, the amount was far from sufficient to meet the escalating needs, according to Lazzarini. Only a few bakeries in the city have been able to step up bread production for distribution to those in UNRWA shelters.

The Biden administration sent a letter to the Israeli government this week, demanding it act to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza within the next 30 days or risk violating US laws governing foreign military assistance.

The situation has worsened due to widespread communication and internet disruptions across Gaza City and northern regions, along with critical shortages of fuel and medical supplies in the remaining operational hospitals, added Lazzarini. Fuel shortages have also affected access to water.

Paltel, Gaza’s primary internet service provider, confirmed a complete internet blackout in the northern Gaza Strip in a statement on Saturday, attributing it to the “ongoing military hostilities.”

Do you even know the history of Gaza war. There's nothing in there to say that his a nice guy. He may not have used the them when he died but him and his army  are well known to use them as human shields.

So explain the tunnels underneath peoples homes , hospitals, schools and so on?Why live under thema sn shoot weapons for that. If they don't use them as human shields why build them there.

He was also responsible for starting the Oct 7 attack for no reason which led to the current conflict

What I believe is not proganda ..what gaza people and the rest of world believe in hamas news is propaganda. They don't care about anyone..they have lust for bloodshed and want to wipe the existence of Israel

Watch this

Son of the co founder of hamas group. He's seen it all .

The solution to end this war is the two state. Arab states have to accept that they have to live with Jews. Jerusalem was there more then 3000 years ago

Will killing him change anything? Definitely not but it gives Israel the upper hand for negotiation which they won't use cause of netenyahu

Are people in Gaza and Arab states that blind?. How can they praise someone who kills their own and uses his own people as shields. That's not a father, that's a murderer

They don't believe the propaganda you seem to belief.

If anything this assassination of Sinwar shows is, that he was not using his own people as shields. He wasn't near civilians nor hostages.

https://www.dsausa.org/democratic-left/why-palestinians-engage-in-armed-struggle/

What would you do?

Anyway Sinwar was radicalized by the occupation and went far too far in his tactics to get the Palestinian occupation back in the spotlight. Hopefully with him out of the way, a more level headed leader (like Ismail Hanniyeh was) will take over and get a ceasefire deal done. However it's more likely that the next radical military leader will take over since it's still war. Or worse, PIJ takes over Gaza.

The only thing that's well known, since it has been caught on tape many times, is the IDF using Palestinians as human shields.

There has been zero proof of Hamas using civilians as human shields. And why would they? The IDF doesn't care about civilians. They massacred over 270 civilians to rescue 4 hostages. They shot their own hostages in December. They bombed there own hostages on Oct 7th. Why would Hamas want to hide behind useless shields the IDF is all too willing to kill.

@dane007 So please provide evidence if Hamas using civilians as human shields that's not just Israeli propaganda. Since this turns up when I try to Google that
"In a post-war analysis of the conflict, Amnesty International stated that: "Contrary to repeated allegations by Israeli officials of the use of "human shields", Amnesty International found no evidence that Hamas or other Palestinian fighters directed the movement of civilians to shield military objectives..."

Same thing any aid agency says that has been in Gaza.

As for tunnels, where is the command center under Al Shifa. Where are the tunnels under schools. They have tunnels everywhere, I've seen Hamas use them in posted videos. But nothing using a school or hospital.

But there are some bunkers / basements below Al Shifa, because Israel build them...
https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/barak-causes-storm-by-telling-cnn-israel-helped-build-some-spaces-beneath-shifa/
They didn't find Hamas there though (some placed weapons is all the IDF could produce)

I already addressed the brain washed 'son of Hamas' before. However every accusation of him is an admission. It's what happens in Israeli society, projected onto Palestinians.

And that's not just since October 7th, it's systemic, ongoing for decades.

And so on.

It's not limited to Israel either

Israel has a very racist society which it exports to the rest of the Western world

Sure I can find videos of Palestinian children getting indoctrinated as well, but they're from the IDF, UN Watch (Israeli lobby group) or CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network, but you know that, it's where the son of Hamas video is from), not backed up by any international organization. It's pure propaganda. (And I didn't include any videos here from Palestinian sources, no need)

Btw you don't get the upper hand in negotiations by killing the ones you negotiate with. That's not how resistance works. You only make it harder to negotiate since now you're dealing with splintered factions. Which is exactly what Netanyahu wants, perpetual war.

You have been duped by Hasbara. It's never too late to learn the truth, but it's not easy for so many disinformation campaigns around.
