Hezbollah politician: Every Israeli assault on Lebanon justifies retaliation

The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel is “meaningless” amid continued Israeli hostilities, Hezbollah politician Ali Fayyad says, adding that any Israeli aggression against Lebanon gives Hezbollah the right to respond.

Commenting on the announcement of a three-week extension to the ceasefire, Fayyad told the Lebanese daily newspaper An-Nahar: “Every Israeli assault on Lebanon grants the resistance the right to retaliate.”

He said that practically, the current arrangement pushes Lebanon towards ceasefire compliance while imposing no obligations, even minimal ones, on Israel, a situation he said Hezbollah rejects and will confront.

UNIFIL says soldier dies of wounds sustained in southern Lebanon

The UN’s peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) says an Indonesian soldier wounded in an attack last month has died. Corporal Rico Pramudia was injured when a projectile hit the UN base in Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29.

Another soldier was killed in the attack. UNIFIL said then that it did not know who carried it out.

“We demand from all actors that they uphold their obligations under international law and ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property at all times. Deliberate attacks on peacekeepers are grave violations of international humanitarian law and of Security Council resolution 1701, and may amount to war crimes”, the organisation said.

UNIFIL in the past has strongly condemned Israel for its attacks on UN peacekeeping bases, both during this most recent war and between Israel and Hezbollah in 2024.

Israeli army destroys houses in towns of Khiam, Kherbet Selem and Tulin in southern Lebanon

The Israeli army has blown up houses in the southern Lebanese town of Khiam, several kilometres north of the Israeli border, according to our colleagues on the ground.

The Israeli military says it struck buildings in the towns of Kherbet Selem and Tulin in southern Lebanon. A social media post claimed that the buildings were being used by the Lebanese group Hezbollah to “plot” against Israel, without offering any proof.

Amidst Xbox boycotts and media pressure, Microsoft reportedly restructures Israeli office after internal investigation into ethical violations

But will it sever ties completely?

Microsoft's investigation into the ethical conduct of its Israeli office, and its work with the Israeli Ministry of Defense - particularly in relation to storing user data on Microsoft's servers - has resulted in the departure of the general manager there and several other managers. This is according to news publication Globes, which also heard that for the time being, Microsoft's rudderless Israeli office will be led by Microsoft France.

Microsoft's investigation is a result of a report aired on The Guardian last year about the use of Microsoft's cloud technology and artificial intelligence services by the Israeli military during the most intensive bombardments of Gaza. People Make Games also published a detailed video on the issue later that year, reporting from a Microsoft data center in Holland alleged to have been storing Ministry of Defence-intercepted audio recordings, and many other forms of data, from millions of Palestinian people.

It's a situation that's given rise to calls to boycott Microsoft - and in particular subsidiaries like Xbox - until the matter is resolved or at least addressed. Earlier this year, an indie studio returned Microsoft game-funding money because of the company's involvement with Israel, and other studios have removed their games from sale on Microsoft platforms as well.
