Police arrest ‘Lift the Ban’ protesters in London

Police officers arrest protesters during a ‘Lift the Ban’ demonstration organised by the civil action and campaign group Defend Our Juries in London on Saturday

British authorities say they’re implementing ‘anti-terror’ laws by making protester arrests

British police however do not support British values like freedom of speech and protest.

No arrests at Palestine Action rally in Belfast; 90 detained in London

Police in Northern Ireland did not intervene at protests in support of Palestine Action, while dozens of arrests were made at a similar demonstration in London.

Dozens of activists displayed placards reading “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action” at both rallies on Saturday

The Metropolitan Police said at least 90 people were detained. The protests come ahead of next week’s legal challenge against the UK government’s move to proscribe Palestine Action as a “terrorist” organisation.

Amnesty International’s programme director in Northern Ireland, Patrick Corrigan, was at the Belfast protest. He described the legal proscription of Palestine Action as “absurd”.

Israel has violated the United States-brokered Gaza ceasefire at least 497 times in 44 days, killing hundreds of Palestinians since the ceasefire came into effect on 10 October, according to the Gaza Government Media Office.

Some 342 civilians have been killed in the attacks, with children, women and the elderly accounting for the majority of the victims.

The office also said Israel was fully responsible for the humanitarian and security repercussions from its violations.

Israel continues to heavily restrict the full and free flow of desperately needed aid and medical supplies into the devastated enclave as was mandated in the ceasefire agreement.

Palestinian sculptors create art on Gaza beach sand to escape Israel’s war

Yazid Abu Jarad and his team carve letters in the sand using tape measures, drawing a crowd, including children scarred by the relentless Israeli attacks, which have continued despite last month’s ceasefire with Hamas brokered by the United States and mediators.

“When we create art on Gaza’s beach, we see so many people gather around us. It brings joy – you can see it on the faces of children and even the elderly. People drift into a different world for a moment,” he told Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili.

“They look at the artwork and see an image completely different from what they’ve been used to since the war began – the bombings, destruction, and the buzzing of drones. Through our drawings, even a small picture can change how they feel.”

Children from the Nuseirat Choir in Gaza performed the Palestinian folk song ‘Shel Shel,’ which went viral earlier this year after local music teacher Ahmed Muin Abu Amsha used the sound of Israeli drones in the background.

"Woe to the oppressor" probably makes this song anti-semitic...

Israel attacks Lebanon’s capital, says top Hezbollah official ‘eliminated’

The Israeli military has launched an attack on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut, killing at least five people and wounding 28 others, Lebanon’s health ministry says, calling it a “final toll”.

In a statement shortly on Sunday, the Israeli military said it “eliminated” Hezbollah’s chief of staff Haytham Ali Tabatabai in the strike on an apartment block in the Hezbollah stronghold of Dahiyeh.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office earlier said Tabatabai was the target of the attack. Israeli media said it was the military’s third attempt to kill him since last year’s war.

Hezbollah has yet to confirm if Tabatabai was injured or killed in the attack.

However, senior Hezbollah official Mahmoud Qmati confirmed a central figure from the group was targeted, saying Israel’s strike crossed a “red line” and that the group’s leadership was considering whether it would respond.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported that two missiles were fired at the apartment building on al-Arid Street in Haret Hreik neighbourhood of Dahiyeh, and significant damage was inflicted on cars and surrounding buildings.

Ambulances arrived immediately at the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals, it said. A large plume of smoke could be seen in the busy neighbourhood, according to the local media.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the international community to intervene firmly to stop the Israeli attacks on the country. In a statement on Sunday, Aoun said Lebanon “reiterates its call to the international community to assume its responsibility and intervene firmly and seriously to stop the attacks on Lebanon and its people”.

Israel attacks Beirut suburb two days after Lebanon agreed for talks

Israel has attacked Beirut’s southern suburbs only two days after Lebanon’s president announced the country had succumbed to an Israeli pressure campaign and agreed to hold negotiations.

Israeli officials and media have warned of a renewed escalation against Lebanon in recent weeks, claiming Hezbollah is regrouping and rearming. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s government has come under pressure from Israel via its main benefactor, the United States, as both countries urge it to move faster to disarm Hezbollah and meet with Israelis for direct talks.

Despite an ostensible ceasefire, Israel has intensified attacks in Lebanon’s south and Bekaa Valley in recent days. At least 13 people were killed by an Israeli strike on Lebanon’s largest Palestinian refugee camp last week, in an attack that killed mostly children and marked the highest death toll in a single strike since a ceasefire was agreed in November last year.

Israel has killed more than 300 people in Lebanon since then, including around 127 civilians, according to the United Nations. It also continues to occupy at least five points in south Lebanon, despite the ceasefire stating Israel would withdraw its troops from Lebanese territory.

“The problem is that Israel is not interested in negotiating at the moment. It wants to eliminate Hezbollah or push the Lebanese army into a clash with the party,” Kassem Kassir, a Lebanese journalist close to Hezbollah, told Al Jazeera.

“Every time Aoun or [Prime Minister Nawaf] Salam talk about negotiations, Israel escalates its aggression.”

Hezbollah weighs response as pressure mounts after Beirut strike

Hezbollah has yet to say how it will respond to the killing of senior commander Haytham Ali Tabatabai.

Mahmoud Qmati, vice president of the group’s Political Council, said the strike marked “yet another ceasefire violation” and accused Israel of escalating the conflict “with the green light given by the United States”.

Despite the ceasefire agreed last November, Hezbollah has continued to absorb Israeli strikes in the south of the country.

Security affairs analyst Ali Rizk said the crucial question now is whether the group will act, saying Hezbollah is unlikely to “give Netanyahu an excuse to launch an all-out war against Lebanon”, which he warned could be more costly for the group than the current situation.

Geopolitical analyst Joe Macaron added that US policy has shifted, saying Washington is “no longer restraining Israel” and is instead reinforcing Israeli operations in Syria, Gaza and Lebanon.

Israel ‘lacks evidence’ for claims Hezbollah trying to rearm

Israel lacks evidence backing its claims that Hezbollah is trying to rearm, which it used as justification for the assassination of a top commander in Beirut, an academic says.

Speaking from Beirut, Imad Salamey of the Lebanese American University said Hezbollah’s statements that it would not give up its arms were being read by Israel that it was rearming itself.

“There is no substantial proof for that,” he told Al Jazeera, adding that according to the Lebanese government and UN forces in southern Lebanon, “there hasn’t been any kind of evidence showing that Hezbollah is rebuilding its bases or rearming itself, at least south of the Litani River.”

He said the group says it is willing to disarm south of the river and has no intention of rebuilding its military capabilities there.

Israeli army launches training ‘exercise’ in Golan Heights

The Israeli army has started a large-scale training exercise in the occupied Golan Heights, claiming to prepare itself for “a variety of scenarios” along the Syrian border.

In a statement, the army said it had started “conducting a Chief of Staff test as part of a headquarters exercise”, with the drill running from Monday morning and for the next two days.

It warned residents that there will be a noticeable movement of troops and vehicles in the Golan and surrounding valleys, with explosions and increased aircraft activity expected.

Syria has repeatedly condemned Israel’s military presence in the area, with Damascus denouncing a visit by Netanyahu to the country’s south last week, where he met troops stationed on Syrian land Israel has occupied for months.

Israel has maintained troop deployments in the UN-patrolled buffer zone since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad, breaching Syrian sovereignty with air raids, ground infiltration operations, reconnaissance overflights, the establishment of checkpoints, and the arrest and disappearance of Syrian citizens.

Israeli forces launch incursion into southern Syria

The Israeli army has launched an incursion into the countryside of Quneitra in southern Syria with five vehicles entering Syrian territory.

The incursion followed a similar raid on Sunday and came after the Israeli army announced it had started a large-scale training exercise in the occupied Golan Heights to prepare itself for “a variety of scenarios” along the Syrian border.

Israeli air attacks, shelling in north and south of Gaza

Israeli forces are striking multiple locations in Gaza despite the ceasefire agreement, our teams on the ground are reporting.

In northern Gaza, Israeli air raids and artillery shelling hit Beit Lahiya beyond the so-called yellow line demarcating territory under Israeli military control.

In the south, Israeli air attacks and fire from tanks and helicopters were reported northeast of Rafah City, as well as air attacks and artillery shelling beyond the yellow line to the south and east of Khan Younis.

Two Palestinians killed in Gaza

At least two Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza since dawn. Our colleagues on the ground are reporting that Israeli forces opened heavy fire on houses as an armoured vehicle rigged with explosives was sent through Tuffah neighbourhood, east of Gaza City.

Israeli military operating beyond the yellow line despite ceasefire

We are seeing extensive Israeli attacks beyond the yellow line that have led to the systematic destruction of Gaza’s eastern neighbourhoods. We understand the military is operating in a way that is deliberate – to create clearance zones.

From the early hours of this morning, Israeli drones were hovering extensively over Gaza City, and we have been hearing loud explosions.

What has been alarming are the reports and testimonies from families on the ground. They say there is a systematic attempt to destroy Gaza’s neighbourhoods and create buffer zones, making these areas completely uninhabitable, which complicates a return for families.

We have two civilians killed by Israel, one in Khan Younis and the other in Tuffah neighbourhood, east of Gaza City. Medical sources say these people were unarmed.

Death toll rises in Gaza

Four Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza this morning, hospital sources told Al Jazeera. Among the victims was a Palestinian killed by Israeli drone fire in the town of Bani Suheila, east of the southern city of Khan Younis, in an area beyond the so-called “yellow line”.

Hamas fighters searching for body of Israeli captive in central Gaza

Sources in Gaza have told Al Jazeera that Hamas forces, accompanied by the Red Cross and an Egyptian committee, have continued searching for the remains of an Israeli captive in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

Tens of thousands of children in Gaza being taught in shelters, UN says

More than 44,000 Palestinian children are being taught in temporary learning spaces in shelters across Gaza, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) says. The agency says it is running 330 such spaces in 59 shelters in Gaza, where many children learn without basics like desks or chairs and sit on the floor during their lessons.

Eight bodies recovered from under the rubble of a destroyed house in central Gaza

The bodies of eight members of a Palestinian family have been recovered from the rubble of their home in the Maghazi camp in central Gaza, the Wafa news agency is reporting.

Civil Defence teams in Gaza, working alongside police and Red Cross staff, have been working at the camp to retrieve the bodies of Palestinians still missing beneath the rubble.

With the latest recoveries, the number of bodies of Palestinians retrieved since the ceasefire came into effect has risen to 582.

More than 9,500 Palestinians missing in Gaza

More than 9,500 Palestinians remain missing as search efforts continue amid the widespread destruction caused by Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, according to estimates by Gaza’s Government Media Office.

Two people wounded in Israeli attack in northern Gaza

At least two people have been wounded by Israeli army fire in Jabalia in northern Gaza, ambulance and emergency services say.

Systematic Israeli demolition campaign on eastern fringes of Gaza City

Israel is increasing its attacks across the eastern parts of Gaza. Four civilians have been killed as a result of these attacks, which Israel claims are measures taken to remove threats towards its troops beyond the yellow demarcation line.

What’s demoralising to see on a daily basis is the wider-scale demolition campaigns taking place in the eastern areas of Gaza City. The scale and consistency of the destruction point to something more systematic than isolated strikes.

Entire rows of houses, farming plots and municipal infrastructure have been destroyed, often in areas where there’s no active combat.

People here see it as an Israeli attempt to carve out new buffer spaces and permanently alter the map of Gaza’s eastern edge. Critics say these actions amount to the erasure of whole communities under the guise of security operations.

Israeli forces arrest 16 Palestinians across occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have arrested at least 16 Palestinians in a series of raids across the occupied West Bank, the Wafa news agency is reporting.

Four people were arrested in Iktaba, near Tulkarem, while three others were arrested in Tuqu, southeast of Bethlehem. Three more arrests were reported in the town of Kobar, northwest of Ramallah.

Three Palestinians were beaten and detained in Silat al-Harithiya, west of Jenin. Israeli forces also arrested three people in Tubas and the surrounding area, northeast of Nablus.

Palestinian shot by Israeli forces in West Bank was university student

As we’ve been reporting, a Palestinian man has been killed by Israeli forces during an attack by armed settlers northeast of Ramallah on Sunday night. The Wafa news agency reported that the man was 20-year-old Baraa Khairi Ali Maali, a student in the law and public administration faculty at Birzeit University.

Clashes broke out after Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes on the fringes of Deir Jarir. Fathi Hamdan, head of Deir Jarir’s village council, said Israeli forces stormed the village to provide protection for the settlers, then fired on Palestinians who confronted the settlers.

Maali was shot in the chest and transferred to an emergency room in Silwad before being taken to the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, where he was pronounced dead. Maali’s killing followed the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old by settlers in Deir Jarir last month.

Israeli settlers shoot, injure Palestinian man in West Bank

A Palestinian man has been shot and wounded by Israeli settlers in an attack west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, our team on the ground reports. The shooting occurred in the central West Bank town of Beit Ur at-Tahta, where six Palestinians were wounded in a settler attack two days ago.

Khadija Othman, the mayor of Beit Ur at-Tahta, said the attack happened when residents headed to the northern part of town accompanied by a Palestinian television crew to film a report about a settler attack several days ago.

The mayor said the victim was shot and wounded in the shoulder.

Israeli settlers burn olive trees, steal agricultural equipment north of Ramallah

Israeli settlers have raided Palestinian farmland north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, burning olive trees and stealing agricultural equipment, the Wafa news agency reports. The attack took place in Atara, with settlers from a recently established outpost near the town setting fire to several olive trees.
