Palestinian man injured after Israeli army opens fire in West Bank town: Report

A young Palestinian man has been shot in the chest by Israeli troops in the village of Beit Inan, northwest of Jerusalem, according to the Wafa news agency. The man, who was not named, was taken to hospital in Ramallah, where he was reported to be in stable condition, Wafa said.

The incident is part of a surge in Israeli military and settler violence across the occupied West Bank amid Israel’s war on Gaza.

Separately, Wafa also reported that:

  • Two Palestinians were injured after Israeli forces opened fire in Deir Jarir, a town north of Ramallah; the military fired at residents after Israeli settlers stormed the village, setting fire to a vehicle.
  • The Israeli army stormed the town of Beit Duqqu, near Beit Inan, firing stun grenades and tear gas at residents.
  • Israeli settlers, under the protection of the military, stormed the outskirts of al-Mughayyir village near Ramallah.

One injured in Israeli settler attack south of Hebron in West Bank

A young man was shot and wounded during an Israeli settler attack in the village of al-Zweidin in the Yatta desert, south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

Anti-settlement activist Osama Makhamreh told the Wafa news agency that Israeli settlers attacked al-Zweidin and fired live ammunition, which wounded the young man in his foot. The settlers were under the protection of Israeli forces.

Several other Palestinians suffered bruises and contusions due to the attack.

According to Makhamreh, Israeli forces surrounded the village and prevented ambulance crews from entering it. A number of people were detained and interrogated.

At the same time, settlers stormed the village of Sha’b al-Batem in the Masafer Yatta area and attempted to steal sheep, and stormed the Haribat al-Nabi community.

Israeli forces also arrested a foreign activist who was documenting the settler attacks.

Far-right Israeli minister says halting Gaza attacks ‘grave mistake’

Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has slammed Netanyahu for agreeing to halt the country’s war on Gaza to allow for negotiations on the US president’s Gaza proposal.

Smotrich’s comments, shared on X, are his first since Hamas announced yesterday that it had agreed to parts of Trump’s 20-point plan.

The far-right Israeli politician, who lives in an illegal Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank, has been a key member of Netanyahu’s government coalition and has called for Israel to annex the Gaza Strip.

Ben-Gvir threatens to leave coalition if Hamas not destroyed after captive release

Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s national security minister and a prominent far-right member of Netanyahu’s coalition, has now reacted to the news of Trump’s Gaza plan moving ahead.

In a statement shared on social media, Ben-Gvir said that he and his Otzma Yehudit party told Netanyahu that they would leave the government if Hamas “remains in existence” following the release of all Israeli captives held in Gaza.

The eradication of Hamas is a “central goal of the war”, Ben-Gvir said.

‘We must not make a mistake’, warns Israel’s Gantz

Chairman of the Blue and White Party, Benny Gantz, says his “heart” is with the families of the captives tonight after Trump pushes for a ceasefire deal to return them to their loved ones.

“We must not make a mistake – we face a complex and long path until the return of all our hostages and the replacement of the Hamas regime,” Gantz wrote on X.

“We must not miss the opportunity again. We will do everything in our power to ensure that this happens and make sure that petty politics does not thwart President Trump’s outline,” he added.

Netanyahu says Israeli negotiators will finalise details of captive release

The Israeli prime minister says the negotiators will be working on a timeline for their release under Trump’s Gaza plan.

Speaking to reporters in Hebrew from Jerusalem, Netanyahu also noted that the US proposal includes the demilitarisation of Hamas. That will be achieved either through Trump’s proposal, or through Israeli military action, he added.

“But in all cases, this will be achieved,” said Netanyahu.

Technical talks on first stage of Trump’s plan to begin in Cairo on Monday

An informed diplomatic source has told our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic that technical negotiations to begin implementing the first phase of Trump’s ceasefire plan will commence in Cairo on Monday.

According to the source, Hamas’s negotiating team will depart the Qatari capital, Doha, tomorrow and travel to Cairo for the talks. A Qatari delegation team will also travel to Cairo to secure an agreement.

The first phase of Trump’s 20-point ceasefire proposal includes the return of all captives, dead and alive, in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

Netanyahu ‘hopes’ Hamas will present stipulations to Gaza deal

Former Israeli diplomat Alon Pinkas says Netanyahu has “no choice” but to end the war in Gaza because Trump told him to.

“I don’t look too much into what Mr [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu says because it matters not, because tomorrow he will say something else and the next day he will say something else. There’s a very simple, very tangible test in the next few days,” Pinkas told Al Jazeera from Tel Aviv.

Following Netanyahu’s first address since Hamas agreed to Trump’s proposal, Pinkas explained that the Israeli leader “hopes Hamas presents stipulations and conditions that would make it impossible for the ceasefire”.

“[Netanyahu] is saying what he is saying to placate his coalition, not Trump, so he is very much relying on Hamas not living up to their end of this bargain,” Pinkas said.

“I don’t take anything he says as binding,” he added.

Netanyahu hinted that Israeli army operations in Gaza could intensify

Netanyahu confirmed that an Israeli delegation will be heading to the Egyptian capital to try and finalise some of the details and come up with a timeline as to how this ceasefire is going to be implemented.

Netanyahu also said that Hamas has no choice but to accept this deal, which is quite interesting because just a couple of hours ago, the US President Trump, giving an interview to American media, said that Netanyahu was the one that has no choice.

[Trump said] he has to be fine with whatever is in the deal because this deal, according to Trump, is final. There’s not really a lot of wiggle room in it, and the minutiae that’s in it – in terms of timings for when captives would be released, when the ceasefire itself will start – that’s what’s going to be up for negotiation.

Netanyahu also said that Hamas is either going to be dismantled politically or militarily; sort of hinting that if Hamas doesn’t take the deal, Israel’s military operations are going to intensify.

Children in Gaza need Israeli attacks to stop: UNICEF

James Elder, spokesperson for the UN agency for child rights (UNICEF), says he was at Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza earlier today, where he saw two children who were severely injured in Israel’s attack on the southern area of al-Mawasi.

Elder told Al Jazeera that a 10-year-old girl was in intensive care with “horrific” head wounds, covered in blood. “She had been struck by an air strike at about 10:00 in the morning today, while she was getting water,” he said.

A little boy who was injured in the same attack was lying next to her in the hospital. “Doctors will not know if he will be alive tomorrow,” said Elder, who stressed that the children were hurt just hours after Trump called on Israel to stop its bombings.

“Palestinians have seen time and time [again] promises broken,” he said. “Yes, they hold hope very dear – they have to. But they need to see those concrete changes on the ground, and that means of course, concrete changes from the sky.”

Israel carried out 93 attacks on Gaza in past 24 hours: Media Office

Gaza’s Government Media Office says at least 70 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s assault on the territory in the past 24 hours, including 47 people killed in Gaza City alone.

The office said the 93 Israeli air and artillery raids carried out during that time frame have targeted densely populated civilian areas, as well as displaced Palestinians, across the Strip.

“This new crime falls within the framework of the ongoing genocide against our Palestinian people, and confirms that the occupation is ignoring all international calls for calm, and insists on continuing the systematic killing of civilians and the destruction of the foundations of life in the Gaza Strip,” it said.

It also urged the Trump administration and the international community to take “serious, effective and urgent action” to stop Israel’s bombardment.

Trump says Israel has agreed to ‘initial withdrawal line’ in Gaza

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump has said the “withdrawal line” has been shared with Hamas.

“When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal,” he wrote.

Trump’s post includes a map of Gaza with a yellow line running through it, still well within the Palestinian enclave. The illustration appears to suggest Israeli forces will continue to control well more than half of the Strip.

Trump pushing Netanyahu to ceasefire to appease his support base

In his speech, Netanyahu was treating this as a sort of victory, bizarrely.

He said ‘we managed to get Hamas to the negotiating table through our military force’, when what actually happened was the US sees that Israel has become even more of a pariah state, which by definition then makes not only the US more of a pariah state, but also within Trump’s own Republican coalition.

Among his [Make America Great Again or MAGA] base, particularly the young people in the base, the question is, ‘Why are we part of this? ‘ ‘I thought this was America First, not Israel First?’

And this is so potent right now in the MAGA base, particularly amongst young people, the enthusiastic base, Trump needs to keep the coalition together going into the midterms, and there’s a revolt under way.

So, when Trump talks about “Bibi took it too far and Israel lost a lot of support in the world, now I’m going to get all that support back”, Trump is also talking about, by extension, his position in his party with regards to foreign policy.

Israel continuing to commit ‘horrific crimes and massacres’ in Gaza: Hamas

The Palestinian group says the continued attacks on Gaza are proof of “Netanyahu’s lies” about ceasing its military operation in the enclave after Trump’s call.

“The Zionist occupation army continues to commit its horrific crimes and massacres against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip,” Hamas said in a statement, adding that 70 people had been killed in attacks since this morning.

The group called on the international community, including Islamic and Arab states, to take “urgent action to protect and provide relief to our people”.

“Exert all possible pressure to stop the war of extermination and starvation that has been ongoing for two years in the Gaza Strip. We call on the free people of the world to continue and escalate their solidarity activities with our Palestinian people, and to pressure the occupation to stop its aggression and crimes of extermination and starvation against Gaza,” the group added.

Hundreds of flotilla activists remain in Israel’s custody

On Friday, four Italian activists detained on board the Global Sumud Flotilla were deported after they were forcibly taken to Israel.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said procedures were under way to send all remaining participants to other countries.

  • Some 450 activists are in Israeli detention, including Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg.
  • The Global Sumud Flotilla, which aimed to break the Israeli blockade in Gaza, said on Friday that Israeli naval forces had “illegally intercepted all 42 of our vessels”.
  • The boats were carrying “humanitarian aid, volunteers, and the determination to break Israel’s illegal siege on Gaza”, the group said.

Turkiye says 36 nationals from Gaza-bound flotilla due to return

Turkiye says 36 of its citizens were expected to return home via a special flight on Saturday afternoon after Israel intercepted a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

“We expected 36 of our nationals on the Global Sumud Flotilla vessels seized by Israeli forces in international waters will return to our country this afternoon via a special flight,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli said on X, adding that the final number has not been finalised.

Israel says 137 activists abducted from Gaza flotilla sent to Turkiye

Israel’s Foreign Ministry has said 137 activists who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla have been sent to Turkiye from Israel. The activists were forcibly taken to Israel after Israeli forces abducted them in international waters.

Israeli media outlet Haaretz quoted the ministry as saying the activists were from the US, UK, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Algeria, Mauritania, Malaysia, Bahrain, Morocco, Switzerland, Tunisia, and Turkiye.

‘They behaved like a terrorist group’: Italian journalist on being detained by Israel

Italian journalist Lorenzo Agostino has said he felt he was “in a really barbaric place” while being illegally detained by Israel in international waters after this week’s attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla vessels bound for Gaza.

Agostino said he and fellow passengers were kidnapped and subjected to “humiliating” conditions.

“They behaved like a terrorist group … We were left without fresh water for over two days. Overall, they took every opportunity to humiliate any of us,” Agostino told the Anadolu news agency.

He said they were subjected to blindfolding, tight handcuffs, inadequate clothing, and freezing temperatures in a highly air-conditioned van for hours.

“I had the feeling of being in a really barbaric place and I really hoped that this barbarism might be over soon,” he added.

Agostino described the arrival at Ashdod port as hostile, noting the presence of far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

“Ben-Gvir was outside the arrival place at Ashdod port when we arrived. And he was sort of like making sure that we were treated like terrorists because he thought we were terrorists,” he said.

The Global Sumud Flotilla had set out to break Israel’s illegal blockade on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the enclave. The Israeli army attacked the flotilla, seizing dozens of boats and arresting hundreds of activists.

Gaza flotilla members say medications withheld in Israeli detention: Lawyers

Adalah, a legal centre for Palestinians in Israel, says detained Global Sumud Flotilla participants have complained of mistreatment at Ktzi’ot Prison, where they are being held in Israel’s southern Negev desert region.

“Participants reported various forms of mistreatment and aggression from the prison guards,” Adalah said in its latest update on the activists.

“Some stated they had not received any food since their unlawful interception, that their medications are being withheld, and that no alternative medications have been provided. Others reported a lack of access to clean drinking water and described the available water as unsafe or of poor quality.”

As we reported earlier, Israel said 137 activists have been deported to Turkiye after their vessels were forcibly intercepted in international waters earlier this week while trying to bring much-needed aid to the Gaza Strip.

Greta Thunberg mistreated by Israeli forces in detention, activists say

Several international activists deported from Israel after joining a Gaza aid flotilla have accused Israeli forces of mistreating climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.

Turkish journalist and Gaza Sumud Flotilla participant Ersin Celik told local media outlets he witnessed Israeli forces “torture Greta Thunberg”, describing how she was “dragged on the ground” and “forced to kiss the Israeli flag.”

Malaysian activist Hazwani Helmi and American participant Windfield Beaver gave similar accounts at Istanbul airport, alleging Thunberg was shoved and paraded with an Israeli flag.

“It was a disaster. They treated us like animals,” Helmi said, adding that detainees were denied food, clean water and medication.

Beaver said Thunberg was “treated terribly” and “used as propaganda”, recalling how she was shoved into a room as far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered.

Trump must force Israel to end ‘campaign of mass killing’: Rights group

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) says Israel’s continued bombardment of Gaza – despite Trump’s call to stop the bombings – means Netanyahu “wants to prolong the genocide and thwart a permanent ceasefire agreement”.

“President Trump must move beyond rhetoric and immediately use every diplomatic, political, and economic tool available – including conditioning US military aid – to end this campaign of mass killing and finalize the permanent ceasefire deal on the table,” CAIR said in a statement.

“Our government cannot continue to fund and defend a rogue regime engaged in what the world recognizes as a genocide. President Trump should hold Israel accountable now – before more innocent lives are needlessly taken.”

The US has provided billions of dollars in military assistance to Israel since the country began its war on Gaza in October 2023.

Like his predecessor Joe Biden, Trump has rejected calls to suspend that funding in light of atrocities committed by Israeli forces against Palestinians, including war crimes.

Key question is whether Trump will remain engaged on Gaza

Matt Duss, executive vice president at the Center for International Policy think tank, says Trump has “staked some of his credibility” on getting a Gaza ceasefire, securing the release of the Israeli captives and funnelling aid into the Strip.

He noted that the US is the only country in the world that can apply enough pressure on Israel to make any of that happen.

“Benjamin Netanyahu in particular has shown a great ability to withstand pressure from his own domestic politics, withstand pressure from European partners, but he understands that he must stay in the good graces of President Donald Trump,” Duss told Al Jazeera.

“And now, Trump has made clear that he wants this ceasefire to happen, for the war to end. So, that’s what Netanyahu has to contend with right now.”

But Duss said a major question is whether Trump will remain engaged on Gaza. “Will he be distracted by some other issue, either in foreign affairs or domestic affairs? Obviously, [there is] a lot going on around the world and in the United States,” he said.

“But a very key question right now is will Trump remain engaged here, press the parties to move forward and particularly, will he continue to put pressure on Netanyahu … to make his commitment to end the war a real thing instead of just words?”

At least 355 people arrested in UK during Palestine Action protest

British police have arrested 355 people for protesting in support of Palestine Action, a direct action pro-Palestinian group, which the UK government designated as a “terrorist organisation” in July.

In a post on X, the Metropolitan Police announced that as of 5:20pm (16:20 GMT), arrests were still ongoing in London’s Trafalgar Square.

Organisers refused to cancel the protest after the police and the government urged the demonstration to be called off following an attack on a synagogue on Thursday that killed two people.

In a post on X, the Metropolitan Police said the arrests include six people who had unfurled a banner on Westminster Bridge that read: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”

Since the proscription of the group, supporters have come out in defence of Palestine Action on a near weekly basis, condemning the ban and demanding that the government lift the designation.
