Members of Trump’s team have ‘had it with Netanyahu’s antics’

William Lawrence, a Middle East analyst and professor at American University, says Trump has people around him that want his Gaza plan to go through “against the wishes of Israel” and the pro-Israel lobby in the US.

“People have figured out that it’s not about finishing the job [for Israel], it’s about perpetual war, perpetual occupation,” Lawrence explained.

“There is a sense now that there’s a certain thinking for Trump and a certain number of advisers around Trump who have kind of had it with Netanyahu’s antics,” he said.

“So if this thing turns for the better now, it’ll be because Hamas is calling everyone’s bluff and Trump is also calling Netanyahu’s bluff.”

As we’ve been reporting, experts have long said that Netanyahu has sabotaged efforts to reach a lasting ceasefire in Gaza for political reasons.

Egypt to exert ‘maximum effort’ to achieve lasting ceasefire

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed Hamas’s acceptance of key tenets of Trump’s plan and says it recognises the “necessity of ending this war” to establish a Palestinian state.

“Egypt expresses its hope that this positive development will lead all parties to rise to the level of responsibility by committing to implementing President Trump’s plan on the ground, ending the war, allowing unrestricted UN access”, and releasing the captives, the ministry said.

The ministry also reiterated its appreciation of Trump’s “wise leadership” and said it was committed to exerting “maximum effort … to achieve a permanent ceasefire, alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, and rebuild the Gaza Strip”.

UN chief urges all parties to ‘bring tragic conflict in Gaza to an end’

Antonio Guterres has welcomed Hamas’s response to the Trump plan for Gaza, his spokesperson says, while thanking Qatar and Egypt for their mediation.

In a statement, Stephane Dujarric said Guterres also reiterated his call “for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and unfettered humanitarian access”.

“The United Nations will support all efforts toward these objectives to prevent even more suffering,” Dujarric said.

French president says Hamas response must be ‘followed up without delay’

Emmanuel Macron says the release of Israeli captives and a Gaza ceasefire “are within reach”.

“We now have the opportunity to make decisive progress towards peace,” the French president wrote in a social media post, thanking Trump for his efforts.

“France will play its full part in line with its efforts at the United Nations, alongside the United States, Israelis and Palestinians, and all of its international partners,” Macron said.

Progress being made on Gaza deal but details need to be ironed out

That’s according to Yossi Mekelberg, a senior fellow with the Middle East and North Africa programme at Chatham House.

Mekelberg told Al Jazeera that what Trump’s Gaza plan has always been missing are details.

“So now we’re getting to the stage that both sides will have to discuss the details,” he said. “If President Trump can put the pressure on both of them, together with the other mediators, then they can make some progress.”

‘Real, tangible’ pressure from US needed for Israeli withdrawal

The main challenge for the international community in implementing a Gaza peace plan will be “ambiguity” on Israel’s part, not Hamas’s, an analyst has told Al Jazeera.

“Hamas is almost not an actor anymore. Gaza is demolished, they’ve killed all of the military leaders, they’ve killed all of the negotiators,” Natasha Hall, a senior associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, told Al Jazeera.

“The issue for the United States and the international community is how much patience [they are] going to have for dealing with the other points of this plan, which are actually really essential for ending the war,” Hall continued.

Presuming Hamas fulfils its commitment to returning all remaining captives, “Netanyahu has lost all his opposition within Israel and can continue the war”, a promise he has made in both English and Hebrew to far-right audiences, Hall said.

Such promises, she added, make it difficult to surmise whether the plan is feasible without “real, tangible” US pressure for an Israeli withdrawal.

UK Green Party leader rails against ‘mass slaughter’ in Gaza

The new Green Party leader for England and Wales has called for the end of “mass slaughter” in Gaza as he railed against the current Labour Party’s approach to the conflict.

During a speech at the party’s conference, party leader Zack Polanski spoke fondly of his upbringing in a Jewish family from Manchester before shifting to Gaza in a passionate address that brought the audience to their feet.

“When mass slaughter is happening in Palestine, we will not be silent,” Polanski said.

“And when [British Prime Minister] Keir Starmer, in one of the most deeply cynical and morbid acts I’ve seen in my lifetime, decides to recognise a Palestinian state at the same moment that his government is an active participant in the murdering of Palestinians – then we will never be silent.”

He also called on the Labour government to withdraw the ban of the pro-Palestine group Palestine Action.

“Let it be heard across our country, a call that is now echoing around the world,” Polanski said. “We must stop selling arms to Israel, we must stop sharing intelligence, we will do everything we can to stop the genocide.”

US judge dismisses lawsuit accusing UN agency of aiding Hamas attack on Israel

A US judge dismissed a lawsuit by dozens of Israelis who accused the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees of funnelling more than $1bn that aided Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

US District Judge Analisa Torres in Manhattan said the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) had “absolute immunity” from the lawsuit because it is a subsidiary of the United Nations, which has immunity from such lawsuits.

Torres also rejected an argument that UNRWA was merely a “specialized agency” not entitled to immunity.

She cited UN lawyers who said subsidiaries such as UNRWA that have considerable autonomy are not “completely independent” because their parent entities can change their structures or close them.

Gavriel Mairone, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said on Friday his clients plan to appeal.

Main events on October 3rd

  • Hamas has accepted core elements of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, including the return of all Israeli captives, but analysts say the details need to be hammered out in negotiations.
  • Trump has welcomed Hamas’s statement and called for Israel to stop bombing Gaza, while negotiators Qatar and Egypt say they are committed to putting the peace plan in place.
  • Israeli attacks continue to pummel Gaza City, killing at least 42 people in the city since dawn, including three children in the Sabra neighbourhood. A total of 72 people have been killed across the Gaza Strip today.
  • Israeli settlers have stormed a Bedouin community in the occupied West Bank, adding to an ongoing uptick in Israeli settler violence in the two years since Israel started its war on Gaza.
  • Hundreds of Global Sumud Flotilla members are still detained in Israel, with some reportedly transferred to Ktzi’ot Prison in Israel’s southern Negev region and several deported from the country.

US president thanks countries who ‘fought so hard’ for his peace plan

US President Donald Trump has made a video address, which the White House said was “in response to Hamas’ statement regarding his peace plan”.

He wants that Nobel peace price so bad, completely ignoring both Israel and Hamas have many issues with his 'peace' plan. But good for the people in Gaza if Trump hammers down on stopping the bombs for PoW and Palestinian hostages exchange, while aid can come in.

I'm very skeptical that, even if this leads to a ceasefire, it will last much beyond the prisoner exchange. But people in Gaza desperately need a break and aid relief and while that aid comes in the true scale of the genocide will come out. The pressure on Israel will only increase not to resume bombing Gaza.

Hamas knows this and is cleverly playing into Trump's plan with their answer. They were always ready for a full prisoner swap and stepping down from government. However not to lay down weapons or having the occupation/blockade continue. Trump just cares about the optics, to be the one to get the prisoners out.

Netanyahu is in a difficult spot however, either become further isolated or lose support at home with many investigations against him then getting more attention.

And of course Israel is ignoring Trump already

Israel strikes Gaza despite Trump order that bombing stop ‘immediately’

Al Jazeera’s Shihab Rattansi, reporting from the White House in Washington, DC, said Trump was clear in his post on the Truth Social platform: “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza”, and yet Israel continues to bomb the Palestinian territory.

“So, it’s an insult. It’s a slap in the face to Donald Trump. Is he being told about the bombing?” Rattansi asked.

“Another major issue here is the information flow to Donald Trump; the Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and others, who actually are perhaps even closer to Trump when it comes to information flows – Steve Witkoff – are they telling him that that was Israel’s immediate response?”

“’Stop the bombing’; Israel bombs – immediately,” Rattansi said.

Israel says it’s ready to implement Trump Gaza plan after Hamas response

Following Hamas’s response to President Trump’s Gaza plan, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has now signalled Israel’s readiness to implement the “first stage of Trump’s plan for the immediate release of all the hostages”.

“We will continue to work in full cooperation with the president and his team to end the war in accordance with the principles laid out by Israel, which correspond with Trump’s vision for ending the war,” it said in a statement.

The statement, however, made no reference to President Trump’s call for Israel to “immediately” halt its deadly bombing of Gaza, which the US leader said was essential to ensure the safe release of the Israeli captives.

First and last stage Israel is interested in :/

World leaders welcome Hamas response to Trump Gaza plan

As we have been reporting, Hamas has signalled its acceptance of core elements of President Trump’s proposed plan to end the war in Gaza, in what the US leader described as an “unprecedented” development.

World leaders, nations and the UN have all praised the development. Here’s what’s been said so far:

  • Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said it welcomed Hamas’s statement, as well as its “readiness to release all hostages”. It also supported Trump’s call for Israel to immediately halt its attacks on Gaza.
  • Egypt expressed its “appreciation” for the Hamas statement, as well as the US leader’s “realistic political vision” to achieve “peace and stability” in the Middle East. Egypt said it hoped this “positive development” would lead to all parties rising “to the level of responsibility required” to end the war.
  • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described Hamas’s response as a “constructive and a significant step toward achieving lasting peace”, as he called on Israel to “immediately stop all its attacks”.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron said Hamas’s commitment “must be followed up without delay”, saying there is an opportunity to “make decisive progress towards peace”.
  • German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said “peace in Gaza and the release of the hostages are within reach”.
  • UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was “encouraged” by Hamas’s statement, as he urged all parties to “seize the opportunity” to bring the conflict to an end.

Egypt, France, Germany and Guterres are all complicit and want to see the genocide narrative replaced with 'peace' (occupation) plan. So no wonder they're among the first to welcome the "Yes, But" response.

Note how only Qatar and Turkey add in Trump's call to immediately halt Israel's attacks on Gaza.

Italy, UK, Australia and Colombia all hail progress on Trump’s Gaza plan

We have been reporting on reactions from world leaders to Hamas’s response to President Trump’s Gaza plan.

Here are a few more:

  • Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said she renews her “full support for President Trump’s efforts to bring peace to the Middle East”, as she said the “priority for all must now be to reach a ceasefire that leads to the immediate release of all the hostages”.
  • UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Hamas’s “acceptance of the US peace plan is a significant step forward”. He also said President Trump’s plan had “brought us closer to peace than ever before”.
  • Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Canberra “welcomes progress on President Trump’s plan to bring peace to Gaza”. He called on Hamas to “agree to the plan, lay down its arms and release all remaining hostages without delay”.
  • Colombian President Gustavo Petro said he agrees with Trump “this time”, as he demanded the “cessation of the genocide”. Petro added that if Trump “moves his army to stop the oppression over Palestine, that army will be accompanied by the army of Colombia”.

3 Zionist controlled governments and one (Columbia) that's actually against (and mentions) the genocide.

What Trump said after Hamas’s response to his Gaza ceasefire plan

The US president made an unprecedented video address in response to Hamas’s acceptance of major points in his plan for Gaza and the Palestinian movement’s call for more negotiation on key details.

Here’s what President Trump said:

I want to thank the countries that helped me put this together: Qatar, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and so many others. So many people fought so hard.

This is a big day. We’ll see how it all turns out. We have to get the final word down in concrete.

Very importantly, I look forward to having the hostages come home to their parents and having some of the hostages – unfortunately, you know the condition they are in – come home likewise to their parents because their parents wanted them just as much as though that young man or that young woman were alive.

So, I just want to let you know that this is a very special day. Maybe unprecedented in many ways. It is unprecedented.

But thank you all, and thank you all to those great countries that helped. We were given a tremendous amount of help. Everybody was unified in wanting this war to end and seeing peace in the Middle East. And we are very close to achieving that.

Thank you all, and everybody will be treated fairly.

Not a word about the people suffering in Gaza nor the 11,000 Palestinian prisoners being tortured in Israeli jails.

But it looks like Trump is having an effect!

Israeli government orders military to reduce Gaza operations: Report

Israel’s government has ordered the Israeli military to “halt the operation to conquer Gaza”, according to Army Radio, a state-funded radio network operated by Israel’s army.

Army Radio’s military correspondent, Doron Kadosh, said Israel’s “political echelon” had instructed the military to reduce activity “to a minimum” and only “carry out defensive actions” in Gaza.

“The practical implication: the operation to conquer [Gaza City] has been blocked – and halted for now,” he said in a post on X.

Israeli army told to prepare to implement first stage of Trump plan

The Israeli military has now issued its first statement following recent developments, saying in a post on X that its Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir “convened a special situation assessment” overnight with the military’s top brass.

“In accordance with the directive of the political echelon, the Chief of the General Staff instructed to advance readiness for implementing the first stage of the Trump plan for the release of the hostages,” the military said.

“Alongside this, it was emphasised that the security of our forces is of the utmost priority and that all [Israeli military] capabilities will be allocated to the Southern Command for the protection of our forces,” it added.
