Official voting is now over.  The 2013 Game of the Year is The Last of Us and the runner up is Grand Theft Auto V.  Clearly the PS3 had a strong finish to Generation 7 with TLoU being an exclusive and GTA V fans favoring the PS3 over the XBox 360.

We get deeper into our cold winter of gaming with the launch of the PS4 and XBox 1 this year.  The XBox 1 launch was pretty weak with their DRM plan regarding sharing and renting games.  PS4 also had its own special method of sharing games.  The Wii U launched the previous year, but it still wasn’t getting many new games and there were noticeable software draughts.

A perfect example of normcore humor, lol. It's a great illustration of why the PlayStation 4 obliterated the competition. People were tired of the standardization of gimmicks and contrived nickel-and-diming schemes for everything. There was a certain yearning out there for a return to normalcy, if you will. Sony communicated in that famous video that they were the brand representing that.

Speaking of humor surrounding the console wars of the time, 2013 was also host to YouTube Comment Reconstructions professionally dramatizing arguments from the comment sections of videos posted to YouTube. One of these was a brand fan argument about which system was going to be better: the Xbox One of the PlayStation 4. I submit it here for some thematically appropriate retro amusement. Consider this my Christmas gift to you, VGC. It's even got a Christmas setting.

I have seen this video before and yes, it's hilarious.  Thanks for sharing it, so I could enjoy it all over again.

Fabulous year. So many great and historical games in just 12 months. When I first beat The Last of Us back in 2013, I thought OK, very good game. 9/10.
But as a time went on I realized that it wasn't just a good game, it is one of the best story pitches and character development in history. Is this game like the best wine or what do people usually say in such cases?
