Eh that's what getting away with zero repercussions is. Just because people are dumb enough to fall for this does not make it right. Slim consoles have always been cheaper in the past this is just another awful precedent that sony are setting.

Well what should the proper repercussions be?

Decline in sales. People need to show that companies can't get away with this

...but they can get away with this. Sony, MS and Nintendo gets away with most of the anti-consumer things they pull. Gamers are way too passionate about this hobby to fight back.

Yeah, many gamers are going to defend rather than fight back. The console market hasn't grown substantially since the 90s. Mainly just been a combination of console gamers switching sides to whichever of the big 3, with many having planted their flag on one side or a combination of sides, but still always getting a platforms console. So you have literally decades of dedicated fanbases. That's not a mold that can easily be broken.

It's like the frog in boiling water scenario. These companies will only continue to slowly turn the temperature up and everyone will be none the wiser.

The only thing I can potentially see gamers fighting back on is when console platforms start going all-digital, but even that, I'm not so sure it'll make much of a dent considering just how high digital purchases are on consoles.
