If that China company ever decided to expand to the US it would be a 3rd competitor. They only make CPU/GPUs for china and from what I hear are pretty alright. Not quite on the level of AMD/Nvidia but not that far behind either. Wish I could remember the name.

They're not. Moore Threads, for instance, performs catastrophically poorly. Their instruction set and features are like, no kidding, 10-15 years behind Nvidia/AMD.

As I said, I believe the actual Slim is still to come.

This is it.... imo.
Maybe they shrink the die, if possible.... and just pocket the saveings (or make it slightly cheaper).
However I suspect the caseing and everything stays the same from now on.

My take is, its kinda sad they didnt also shrink the chip.
The fact that it uses the same power, isn't good.

The reason that there is no die shrink is it happened slightly earlier with the 3rd PS5 1200 model revision, normally they would combine the shrink with the slim model, but Sony with it's PS5 shortfall prioritised using the new line to increase production as quick as possible by introducing the 1200 model rather than hold it over till the slim was ready and looking at the production and sales numbers it paid off, also the slim would have benefited from the data gained from all the shrinkage that occured in the 1100 and 1200 models.

Well the reason for the PC parts and consoles to be more expensive than before is the cost of the silicon have gone up for everyone, but unless you hunt for deals and luck out consoles will be more budget friendly than buying a whole PC of similar spec.

Yes. I guess I chose my words poorly, since my point was that there is pressure, and not that GPUs having been more affordable in the past bears any relevance today.

Yes, even if PS5 were to outsell Series 3:1 and Switch is considered an indirect competitor and we said the same about PC I totally agree that it puts pressure that Sony can't really take it easy and blunder or be to crazy because there is options for customers if they are dissatisfied with PS offering (and putting their 1st party titles on PC only make that change easier for customers).

That do make sense since when you look at the revision on the node shrink although there were some weight reduction and simplification of the heatsink/cooling solution the overall PCB and chassi were basically the same. So it seems like they took the chance of using the new node as fast as possible while keep working on engineering improvements to reduce the system on the 6nm node, and hopefully next year we see a 5nm and proper slim.

My feeling is the 5nm will be used for the PS5 pro, and any slim revision will happen later.

Not sure, Sony likely thinks a slim will sell more than the Pro (for valid reasons) so will depend on what level of sales the regular model will be.

My thoughts about the slim revision following the Pro on 5 nm revolves around time lines and how much 5nm production they can obtain, if it is initially constrained the pro is more likely to be the focus, with the regular model staying at 6nm till the line matures.

Understood, yes it makes sense that if they can only produce let's say 5M/year on the 5nm it wouldn't be enough for the slim but for PRO it should suffice.
