Forums - General - Banned Users, Future Suggestions

I was just thinking, lately there have been a lot of "ban threats" and there are quite a few banned users, many of them were quite popular or posted regularly.

I'm just curious as to the reasons why these people were banned, obviously the most common excuse would be trolling, but we don't know if the Mod that banned them had a personal thing against that person or not.

Anyways, I'm one of the users who think the mods are getting out of hand, and a few are behaving inappropriately, therefore I purpose a ban sheet, or a file/sheet that the mods need to fill out and report to ban a user. In this report I think the following should be included:

Date & Time
# of warnings (specific mods)
Cause of the ban (Trolling, ban bet, spam)
Example of cause (Link to forum post)
Length of ban (Forever, 2 weeks, 2 days, etc)
Type of ban (Permanent, IP ban, Temporary)
Other mods who agree with the ban

I think this information should be publically available for all members to view so people don't just disappear and we never hear from them again.

i agree but u should bring this up to ioi or stof

Nice idea. It would also keep people from complaining, or being confused about the ban.

If you don't like it, then you should join NeoGAF. I hear the mods there are much more lenient. Oh wait a minute...

We actually fill something out very similar to that but it's posted on the mod boards. If you want to know why they're banned and for how long look at the reason under their name and their post history.

Oh sorry, I didn't notice, although some more info on the ban would be nice, maybe a link to the official report on the ban.

Why would I want to point you to a disruptive comment (in the case it was because of a comment the user was banned)?

I was banned for something I didn't intend to be taken a certain way but it was and so I apologised to the mod who banned me and explained what happened and I was un banned, but now bare the scares of a very hefty vg$ fine :'(

I am very thankful the ban was lifted!!!! Maybe the people who are banned for something they feel they shouldn’t be banned for should contact the mod and talk civilly and nicely and I’m sure they will understand. But if you have been a very bad boy/girl then you deserve the naughty corner with a big pointy hat saying BANNED!

Just so its there so that the users know the mods are handling situations by the book and not by personal feelings.

For example ArtofAngels ban reason:

Reason for ban: Please shorten your sig.
- twesterm

What kind of ban reason is that? Did ArtofAngels refuse to do so, or was there other reasons?

ArtofAngels was banned because he wouldn't change his sig size, that's all you really need to know about the ban.  If you want to know more, I don't mind explaining, but there's nothing more you really need to know other than his sig was too big and was against the rules.

I asked him nicely to read the new rules and change his sig.  He (in a pretty snarky manner) told me no so I asked him to calm down and asked him again to please change it.  He said OK.  I waited a few days and asked him again and he didn't.  I waited some more and he still didn't.  Mind you that he was still logging on and posting the entire time.  It was obvious he still didn't want to change his sig so he received a ban.

Does it matter to you that he refused?  Does it matter that to you I gave him a very good amount of time?  No.  The fact is he broke one of the forum rules and that very plainly deserves a ban.  Knowing the full story doesn't change a thing.  Of course for something simple like that we're not going to just out right ban people but that doesn't mean we let people get away with it either.
