Forums - Gaming Discussion - Croc: Legend of the Gobbos physical and CE pre-orders available

Aww I might pick these up, I got the originals for my PS1 a year or two ago, I’ve never been crazy about them but they are cute and pretty fun, they have problems running on my PS2 slim though so…which is my current way to play both ps1 and ps2 games.

Modern controls is a very welcome addition.
As much as I love the original, it can be tough to revisit nowadays with those tank controls.

All I need to know now is if it's coming to Switch and if so, whether the port is decent.

Wow, so you can play Croc in as modern of a way as you want from controls and display, or you can play it as you did in 1997 from the conrols and display lol

Retro graphics all the way for me, gotta get that sweet nostalgia hit, though I admit I kinda miss the wobbly polygons/textures of the original as it was such an iconic element of PS1 era graphics.

Interesting choice having the game exclusive to GOG on PC. It's absolutely for the best for the longevity of the game, but will miss out on sales. Having it on GOG though means I'll be able to save the game in a million different places to ensure I always have it

https://techraptor.net/gaming/news/croc-legend-of-gobbos-remaster-no-steam-release

"In a press release, the studio confirms that the remaster, which was announced back in August alongside Argonaut's revival, will be exclusive to GOG on PC in order to ensure that it remains DRM-free (although the console releases naturally won't be)."

"According to Argonaut, the decision to release on GOG was made so players can "enjoy Croc without restrictions, preserving ownership and freedom"."

What a stupid reasoning to not offer the game additional to GOG.com on Steam.

  • many Steam games don't have DRM, so they could offer it on Steam without DRM
  • they obviously don't have a problem with DRM on Switch, PlayStation and Xbox
  • the game would be a good fit on the Steam Deck, many SD owners won't install Heroic launcher for a non-Steam game

Well, there it is!
I'll be picking it up on Switch, provided it's not a rubbish port, which seems unlikely given it's a modest (though well done) graphical update to a game from 1997.
It's gonna feel interesting playing it on a Nintendo platform given that Croc in my brain is iconic of Playstation, sort of like how it felt first time I played Sonic on Nintendo way back when.

Preordered!!! December release window target but could be moved to early 2025 if needed.
