It was an okay direct, but the lack of first party is concerning

SGF is in a few days. Sony will obviously priortise that for any major first party games they have. But even then, Sony is announcving fewer games years in advance like they used to.

That said:

I think the SOP was good. A lot of cool stuff shown. Sony having both Nioh 3 and Tokon for 2026 is really going to help make 2026 pop for them. That's not even taking into account Wolverine and Saros, and whatever else.

With the Yotei teaser and SOP in July, I doubt it reappears for SGF. Until Dawn 2 annoucement there makes a lot more sense.

Surprised no Lost Souls Aside and Convollaria. I mean, former has been shown a few times already, so that's fair. But the latter is really MIA atm.

And tbh any announcement from PS Studios yesterday would have been swallowed by Touken, the implications of Sony having a first party Marvel japanese fighting game made it that big of an announcement. That's why I don't have any problem with Ghost getting their own show in July.

We already know the 4 games left for this year (Ghost, DS2, LSA and Marathon), we know 3 games for next year (Saros, Touken and Fairgames) and there's still 3 chances to know about more games (Summer fest, September's SoP and the Game Awards). Not ideal but not terrible either.

Btw you are right about LSA lack of trailer yesterday but that still can be fixed with their own SoP.

What an incredible State of Play.

Marvel Tokon, Metal Gear, and Pragmata were the clear standouts to me, but so many games caught my eye.

Marvel Tokon is a product of Jim Ryan's live service push. There's no getting around it lol.

Hell yeah! After an overwhelming number of strikeouts up to this point, home boy slowly but surely getting that live service batting average up to .300. Which in the majors, that practically guarantees you a slot in the HoF!

Fr though, Tokon and Helldivers 2, he got a solid hit on!

And that's just looking at live service!

I think overall Jim has done a good job in filling in the genre gaps for PlayStation's portfolio: Destiny franchise via acquisition, Astro Bot, Lego Horizon, Marvel Tokon, and the much rumored 2.5D God of War spinoff, but people will only lay the failures/cancellations of projects onto his feet.

Oh Weeee! Like an NFL team going 2-15. At least they didn't lose every game! Rousing success!

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

If 3 of the 12 live service titles turn out very successful, then the project will be deemed a big success for Sony.

Helldivers 2 alone will make a lot more money than the cost of all failures/cancellations combined. Sony's blunder with Concord was acquiring then shutting down the studio. Someone at Sony must have really loved how Concord was shaping up to be, and made a terrible bet.

Resident Evil Re9uiem announced, so Capcom was indeed mad that Sony took Marvel away to Arc System Works, lol.

February 27th, 2026.

"This game was developed by one guy, with the help of his 100 friends..."

After the Clair Obscur thing I no longer doubt how easy it is to pull the wool in front of gamers' eyes in that regard. No wonder Geoff obsessively mentioned it as a selling point for all of this questionable AA lineup.
