Can't be a coincidence that GoY is releasing just 2 weeks after Borderlands 4. There's no way Take-Two would release one of their own large games so close to an even substantially larger game lol. So even if Sony doesn't know GTA 6's exact release date yet, it would be safe to assume it won't be too immediately after B4 releases lol. Nearly everything shown in GoY so far has been "here's more Ghost of" which is not a bad thing at all and will immediately sell quite a few on the game already. There has to be another SoP soon I imagine with shadow dropping the release date. |
My theory is: The game was expected to be a released before October, it could have been July, August, maybe even sooner, before the SoP in February they realized the game wasn't going to be ready in time so they didn't mention it at all when DS2 had its released date revealed just days after and Saros was confirmed for 2026. Now they realize they have to use all the time they have left in this year, put the date of October 2nd and they make the announcement this way because they know whenever TTI pulls the trigger most potential new buyers won't care about anything else.
Sony shadowdropping the date isn't bad but it's weird, if the plan from the beginning was to release the game in that date we would have seen the date in February, if there wasn't an urgency for people to know the date and even more important the fact that preorders star in the first week of May then they should have waited for the SoP they usually have at the end of May. They clearly want the extra month of preorders.
About the space between Borderlands and GTA. I mean Borderlands is already established, one month or month and a half is pretty healthy for a big name and let's be honest whatever number a 15+ year old loved franchise can't sell in the first month will hardly be sold in 2 or 3 months, this isn't people realizing Helldivers 2 isn't a "generic" Sony game, Helldivers is actually a fucking awesome Sony franchise lol. GTA6 is so big it can skip any rules and be a success but it doesn't make sense for TTI to just skip one of the 2 biggest months of the year sales related (November) because of Borderlands (obviously thinking the game will in fact release this year, that still can change) lol.
And of course Ghost of Yotei is more Ghost of, were people expecting something else? It has a brand new protagonist, more civilization, 3 new weapons and a wolf companion, that's what fans should be looking for. This is the second trailer, now they need to show gameplay to seal the deal.

Spider Man was out before announcing Spider Man 2, Horizon ZD before LEGO Horizon was announced and Horizon Forbidden West before Horizon Remastered.
The chances for something to happen are there lol.

Resistance comeback this days?
Really an optimistic, lol.
After several hours playing the Marathon alpha......I am very lukewarm on the game in its current state.
Gunplay, undeniably fun! Never doubted that Bungie was going to make combat feel good to play. Sound design is impeccable and a lot of the interiors of structures are really cool to look at. That's unfortunately where my positives stop.
Gameplay itself can feel very clunky and slow, even the reload speed is slow (although that may be by design since Extraction Shooters are meant to be more tactical) the map is very empty with no variety in enemy types (Helldivers 2 had more enemy variety) in-game menus are not intuitive and cluttered when it comes to loot management, along with just the general design of the in-game menus has to be the flattest and most generic looking menus I've ever seen. The actual amount of objectives gets repetitive really fast after a few matches. The abilities of the runners (heroes) themselves are pretty run of the mill, nothing special or something you haven't already played before. They also tied melees to your stamina bar for some reason which runs out very quickly since you're constantly running. Your vault space runs out VERY quickly which, considering the biggest point of the game is you getting loot, you shouldn't so quickly run out of storage space. There were a couple matches where we didn't run into a single other player either (when Bungie claimed this game was to be PvP focused lol)
Then the biggest sin of all, someone at Bungie thought it was a good idea to put WALL HACKS in the game as ultimate abilities!!! Extraction Shooters allow you to keep all the loot you found if you extract successfully. You lose all your loot when you die. Imagine dying and losing all your stuff just because someone used an ability that, unless your ultimate is built up as well, have no way to counter. In a match that only has 15 other players at the most and stakes being you losing everything you've gained if you die. Having wall hacks should've been an immediate left on the cutting room floor feature.
And seeing there's only one other map and 2 other runners that will be available at launch, Bungie is going to need to do some major overhauls if they want this game to succeed. Especially if they're trying to sell at $40. There's currently nothing here that makes Marathon stand out from the crowd. Especially releasing alongside Borderlands 4.
And something that's really disappointing is, I understand this game is Marathon only by name, but after playing the original trilogy, you would think Bungie would've taken advantage of the original games enemy variety and creepy atmosphere. Even the Cinematic short had some of that creepy atmosphere. But none of that is present in the game itself.
I'm not sure how much Bungie can actually change in the next 5 months because several of the issues I mentioned can absolutely be fixed and tweaked, but I'm not sure what kind of longevity the game will have in its current state.
EDIT: Also, there's no narrative beats whatsoever. It honestly feels like Bungie is still trying to figure out what they want this game to be.

Even if something happened I wouldn't expect anything but the bare minimum. I'd hate to be wrong and have a fully realised remaster of all 3 games.
I'd also like Vita to make it to PS Classics so the Vita title (as bad as it may be) is playable.

Maybe a bit early a month away but I hope Sony starts giving Lost Soul Aside some decent marketing.
