Even former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appears to be leaning in Walz’s favor. A source familiar with the California Democrat’s thinking told The Hill she “is always especially fond of former House colleagues” when asked about Harris’s running mate, a nod to Walz.

House Democrats Home in on Tim Walz as Kamala Harris VP Choice

Oh Lawd! Walz coming in from the back with the steel chair!

I'm surprised Pelosi is in favour of Walz, I'd thought she'd say someone more centre but Pelosi is actually really politically smart so if she is in favour of Walz then that makes me even more sure that he's a good pick.

Maybe the thinking is we don’t need someone in the center, we need someone who can effectively persuade people in the center to support progressive policies?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

To me he's like a younger Bernie, a brilliant speaker and debater, he is great at turning criticism directed at him back at the person giving it him, in ways that connect with the public, that may be my like of him speaking though. He's a former teacher and IIRC the highest ranking ex-military in political office, which may earn him respect amongst Americans. The unions all want him, House Democrats want him and he seemingly has no negative baggage attached to him except from the socialist labels, Lol.

But he's obviously not as EC important as Shapiro or Kelly's states. He is clearly more left wing than most Democrats and Americans are terrified of the s-word as stupid as that is, having said that...He was elected to the House of Representatives for Minnesota's 1st congressional district in 2006, defeating six-term Republican incumbent Gil Gutknecht. He was reelected five times, retiring in 2019 after being elected governor. Walz represented a large, mostly rural section of southern Minnesota situated along the border with Iowa.

Is this a Republican leaning district? Would it not imply he appeals to Republicans in his district? Maybe he'd appeal to them elsewhere? Such as Wisconsin and Michigan? The Rust Belt. Walz has had big success in rural sections, which are commonly Republican leaning, maybe he can speak to them in ways they will understand.

If Harris believes she can win PA without Shapiro then maybe it's that.

Walz is my favourite from a personality standpoint but I was worried about his left-leaning nature even if I agree with a lot of it, but maybe Walz can appeal to those that are needed, he certainly does have a way with words and when I look at him, I see a charming as fuck dude but at the same time, he's a brilliant orator and the whole "weird" attack that has been so successful came from Walz, it's probably his teacher days, dude has disarmed Trump so easily, Lol.

I don't envy having the pick between Shapiro/Walz/Kelly. Though I will say, I'm noticing more and more attacks on Shapiro lately, it feels as though he has the most baggage and whether some of these things are true or not, the narrative is there, as an example, he would probably have to reach out to Arab communities right out of the gate because the narrative is there.

I think Shapiro is too flashy and has some downsides to him. He would be a good nominee but it's too strong for a VP. Might be better to go for someone more milquetoast like Kelly or Beshear which is what I expect to happen.

Not sure about Walz, maybe he helps with Wisconsin a little but also has some downsides (looks like a Boomer, and will be bombarded with George Floyd stuff).

Spoiler!

Just pick Kelly already. He has been doing more interviews. Proves he is able of going on the offensive. I like how he wasn't over playing his hand trying to get on the ticket. I genuinely don't think he has presidential ambitions (that may change if he becomes veep). It was clear he never set out to be a politician. I think he is the safest and coolest pick.

I think Kelly is the best choice politically (for Harris) but I've been a bit disappointed in how little he has been trying to get the spot, like seeing how hard Shapiro/Walz/Even Beshear are trying compared to Kelly...It makes me feel sorry for them if they aren't picked, Lol. Kelly should be trying way harder...Shapiro/Beshear/Whitmer are campaigning their asses off for Harris. Maybe I'm just not seeing it? Maybe he is! Just the impression I get is those guys are trying to promote Harris a lot harder.

The other thing I'm a bit eh on with Kelly is I think he's the worse public speaker of the top ones, Shapiro and Walz are far better orators than Kelly, I'd put money on them being better debaters, especially Walz. I think Beshear has this issue too, that dude comes across too nice...But then their debating skills are going to be of little concern to the overall election.

Kelly still has the best story, the best career which Americans will appreciate (a combo of military and astronaut is near unbeatable), a moderate appeal, a key state, a border state (immigration being among the top concerns of voters) and 2nd amendment positions which can be pushed easier to a country which loves its guns.

Shapiro is the choice if you don't think you can get Pennsylvania without him, he is also a skilled orator and is seemingly popular in Pennsylvania but Shapiro is also the riskiest of the top picks because of the drama around him, you'd be on the defensive foot right from the start trying to clear up his past. Meanwhile Walz seemingly has no baggage around him, Kelly only a little (his clapping during Netanyahu's unhinged speech)

Walz is the best person, a real wholesome "America's grandad" vibes, a skilled orator, responsible for Harris attack angle, won in a rural district multiple times so could appeal to the rust belt and got a lot of shit done for his state, a previous teacher and high ranking military officer gains him brownie points but he could be labelled more easily than others with the "socialist" shit.

This is why it will probably be Shapiro.
