roadkillers said: 1. Does anyone know how it it sold in Europe? Im guessing 500,000-1,000,000 2. GoW is big. It may not sell the best but it is one of Sony's biggest gems. GT is the biggest though and Crash was the biggest till they sold it. Think about it though since the game is so short people rent it. GT can last almost 200 hours if they really wanted to get 100%. If you wanted 100% on GoW thats about 25 hours. Still 2 million is lot for the game. Lets say it took 20 million to make. If they sold 2 million thats atleast $80,000,000. Thats a profit of 60 million. Still thats nothing compared to the best selling game GT which gets Sony roughly $420,000,000 on GT3 alone. |
If that's how profits are calculated, let's do the math for WoW. The game was developed for 10-15 million dollars.
10 million copies sold wordlwide: 50 x 10,000,000 = 500,000,000 dollars.
Subscription fees per year: 15 x 12 = 180
First year averaged 3 million players, so 180 x 3,000,000 = 540,000,000
Second year average 5 million players, so 180 x 5,000,000 = 900,000,000
Third year (thus far) has an average of 8 million players, so 180 x 8,000,000 = 1,440,000,000
4 million copies of Burning Crusade sold, so 50 x 4,000,000 = 200,000,000
All told, the profits of WoW are: 3,580,000,000 - 15,000,000 =
Three billion, five hundred and sixty five million dollars. This game alone would have yielded more profit than the entire Sony corporation over the same time frame.
