Forums - Sales - God of War 2 and Metal Gear Solid Portable 2

1. Does anyone know how it it sold in Europe? Im guessing 500,000-1,000,000 2. GoW is big. It may not sell the best but it is one of Sony's biggest gems. GT is the biggest though and Crash was the biggest till they sold it. Think about it though since the game is so short people rent it. GT can last almost 200 hours if they really wanted to get 100%. If you wanted 100% on GoW thats about 25 hours. Still 2 million is lot for the game. Lets say it took 20 million to make. If they sold 2 million thats atleast $80,000,000. Thats a profit of 60 million. Still thats nothing compared to the best selling game GT which gets Sony roughly $420,000,000 on GT3 alone.

Yeah, I included God of War in my "most overrated console sellers" list. Not that it's a bad game, mind you -- that's not the point -- the point is that people associate with other top-flight titles like Gran Turismo that sell consoles, and it is absolutely no where close to that league. To give you an idea: God of War I and II combined have been outsold by "Simpsons: Hit and Run." Combined, mind you.

Again, just to put out flames before they start: I'm not saying it's a bad game. The point is that regardless of how good it may or may not be, it's a much less popular franchise than others, like GTA, Halo and GT, which really do sell systems.

God of war 2 was b/c i need to go out and buy another PS2 for that game

Not even close, cmon you don't calculate profit like that. I expect more from a mod...

You left out the retail share, marketing costs, distribution costs, etc. The profit will be WAAAAAYYYYY less than $60 million, though still very good.

Sells decently in Europe. Estimate about 300k-400k. In USA, it will get probably about 100-150k more. It will hit 2 millions maybe. I think its a pretty good game, played a bit, but it is kinda repetitive. I wanna see how much the PS3 one is going to sell, it should be released in 2009 probably, with like 80-90% less the userbase.

Im guessing 500,000-1,000,000 Nah, GoW1 sold like 400k, and if the trend is like the one in USA, it will be less.Really, people should realized that games is 100% for mature gamers. Selling what it has sold is pretty good in my opinion. It is not a system seller though, but when combined with some other games, it probably is.

God of War is selling very well here ....it could reach a million .In NA it will reach with some months between 1.5 and 2 millions .In Japan this series dont have the same success ...in fact GOWII hasnt been released and GOW sold a measly 15K . As for Metal Gear Portable Ops the latest data of this very website did put it at some 360K in Japan and 235K in NA so it has nearly 600K sold ....and it has just been released in Europe and Australia ......I dont think it will be too difficult for this game to reach 1 million sold worldwide .If Tekken DR has managed it after Namco-Bandai I dont know why MGS PO cant enter the same league .The million seller in the PSP must be right now GTA Liberty City GTA Vice City PES 6 Monster Hunter Monster Hunter 2 Tekken DR Everybodys Golf Star Wars Battlefront II (it has some 800K only in NA ...) And MGS will probably enter that group ...

If that's how profits are calculated, let's do the math for WoW. The game was developed for 10-15 million dollars.

10 million copies sold wordlwide: 50 x 10,000,000 = 500,000,000 dollars.

Subscription fees per year: 15 x 12 = 180

First year averaged 3 million players, so 180 x 3,000,000 = 540,000,000

Second year average 5 million players, so 180 x 5,000,000 = 900,000,000

Third year (thus far) has an average of 8 million players, so 180 x 8,000,000 = 1,440,000,000

4 million copies of Burning Crusade sold, so 50 x 4,000,000 = 200,000,000

All told, the profits of WoW are: 3,580,000,000 - 15,000,000 =

Three billion, five hundred and sixty five million dollars. This game alone would have yielded more profit than the entire Sony corporation over the same time frame.

It's amazing how profitable things are when you don't count expenses
