Forums - Gaming - The wii will be bigger than the PS2.

I would be happy if Wii only outsells SNES and gets more fun/good games then I can afford.

I think it is more like the old days like when Megadrive (Genesis) and SNES was at the market, now with 3 consoles, not a war between two loosing consoles fighting for the scraps that PS2 left behind and a few multiformat buyers, or somethink like that.

Personally,I´ll only consider the Wii "this gen´s true PS2 successor" when it starts stealing a considerable amount of high profile 3rd party titles away from PS3/360...with the userbase growing much faster than the one on PS3/360,I´d suppose it´s only a matter of time....I think...how long did it take for the PS1 to start getting major 3rd party titles one after the other?

Bing!!!... And you have hit the nail on the head. I find it funny how some of the folks in this thread who probably started their hard core carrier on the playstation, can comment about something they barely remember, it took a nice wjile for the playstation to start picking up great games, for it to be hailed as one of the grates consoles of yesteryear.

@ Grifin

wow So now it was sony that took the console industry out of the slump. Interesting, funny though i have not heard of the great game crash in the mid 90's, perhaps i need to read my history books again. Thats not to say sony did not contribute greatly to gaming, but are you really that much in love with sony you would start making up history, my friend i think you just thrown all your credibility out of the window, because this shows your veiws are so biased to the point you are willing to lie and look like you actually no nothing about this industry that you love so much past.

The Wii will be as grate if not greater than the PS2, it will take time. That doesn't mean it will take away anythng the PS1 or 2 did nothing can, just like they intern have not taken away thing what the nes or snes did, all of them contributed greatly in this industry and have laid out a solid foundation for the future of consoles. I love gaming as much as the next guy, but i am not willing to be so ignorant as to start making up stories, not trying to attack you griffin, though its grate you love sony console gaming, don't let it take you to the point of ignorance, its not cool.

So the appeal for just gaming is slowly slipping away. We all want standards i.e. chat, video chat, music, picture slides, achievement charts, online competition etc We as gamers are accustomed to the new standards that gaming consoles have become.

No not "We" "You".  The majority of console buyers couldn't care less as can be seen from the disparity between Wii sales and those of PS3.  It's kinda weird how so called "hardcore" crowd think they make up the bulk of the world's population.

finalsquall, the majority of the world uses pcs for that shit not ps3s. and the ps3 passing ps2?

What the fuck!

I wonder if the Wii will ever do that.

Lay off the drugs man.

The mass market wouldn't even fuck with a game console for multimedia. The mass market, in all honesty, is with the pcs for life.

Damn things have changed since 2009 began. Here are my new visions for the end of the generation.

Wii: 135 mil

Ps3: 85 mil

360: 60 mil

True Genius

IMO, if Okami Wii sales beat PS2 sales(by a noticable margin) it would be a proof that even the niche, hard core orientated game have good chances on Wii. I hope that will draw all the smaller and innovative dev teams around Wii and that we would be able to play some fresh new IP's.

Those that are more dependable on graphics will always lean towards x360 and PS3.

As for the other part of the gaming population, Wii will absolutely outsell PS2 in the casual market and thanks to that it will pass PS2 lifetime sales. Thanks to WiiFit, wii could capture lots of people that aren't really interested in games, but are just amuzed by the fun way to excersize.

Don't you see that as a problem?, i am pretty sure i have heard you call your self a hardcore gamer b4, and yet you have accepted that the appeal of just gaming is slowly slipping WTF? so now people should be buying media players which just happen to have elements of gaming attached to them, well call me a bitch, and thats what you a "hardcore" gamer believe. I have seen you rip into the Wii time and time again yet it seem to be the only console that is just that a console, do you realise people are buying the Wii just because of games, you probably complain about mini-games yet you are talking about other media attached to a console which is not even a game, the hypocrisy, not saying PS3/360 do not sell on factor of their games , but it annoys me when i hear somebody is buying a PS3 for Blu-ray not an actual game. Now in order to buy a console you need an incentive's like media playing capabilities, what happened to the good old days when we just wanted console to play fucking games?

The truth is, a lot of these so called hardcore gamers think like this dude i have quoted above, yet they would be hypocrites enough to blast a mini-game or the fact that the Wii does not play DVD's. When i get my PS3 it will be on the strength of games, not a fucking Blu-ray player, now its a nice added feature, but never a feature that made me want a PS3.

I think this is a problem nintendo saw, they said if gaming did not change its ways and started including new people and taking a lot more of a fresher approach then another form of entertainment would disrupt and eventually over take it. I tip my hat to them, i love games, i don't care what console their on, i just love games, and blu-ray or movie downloads want help contribute to the popularity of games, only games can do that. Some of you really need to get a clue

@DA I do all of that on my PS3.

I don't think the PS3 will ever catch Wii or PS2 lifetime, but I personally like the features, and I like watching downloaded content on my T.V. without having to scooch the laptop over next to the T.V., trying to find a place to put it so that the S-Video will reach, and hoping that nobody steps on it or knocks it off of the entertainment center.

Yes, the majority of people use thier PC for alot of media, but I would rather have that type of content in my system than not have it.

This post would have been worth noting 2 years ago. It's just going with the trends now, nothing that isn't set to happen.

Lol thats funny I read this then looked at your avatar.. yeeh... k.

The wii will be a bigger impact on the gaming community because it's the first console since N64 (analog control) to introduce a new control scheme. However i think that the PS2 will have a bigger impact on the world at large just due to the fact that i made the DVD format popular, something that may or may not have happened on it's own.
