I feel like a lot of people are riding off the negative wave lately, for engagement for a few of them. Not Grubb since this was just an offhand Podcast comment, I doubt he expected it to blow up, but others, including some Xbox (Jez) guys, it's feeling that way. Everything is being blown way out of proportion lately no matter what the negativity is, the constant exaggeration makes me want to take a break from Twitter/Era.
Redfall at 30fps really broke brains this week.
I've also seen it from a few journos, feeding the dooming, it was only a few weeks ago where some were pushing the idea of the Xbox division being sold off or closed if the Activision-Blizzard deal failed (which was ridiculous) and Xbox fans were dooming again. Then CMA dropped their concerns and now Xbox is a monopoly again. I think a few are concerned about the status quo changing with the ABK deal...
We've had a week of not-so good news and I get there is no AAAs until May either but some are losing their dang minds. I've seen so much demanding of people to be fired, Xbox dooming, acting like this is the worst gen ever, over this past week, it's becoming ridiculous. Every bit of news no matter how small is massively amplified and some are losing all perspective. I'd agree the news is negative but you lose me when you exaggerate things.
Yeah. 2022 was bad, and this week hasn't been good despite the start of the year being strong, I understand patience is running thin for AAA content but the dooming is so unnecessary, it ain't the end of Xbox, Microsoft is clearly in this for the long haul and they've had infinitely worse periods than the current one, their future line-up looks crazy, they have a ton of AAAs coming, they're literally about to release a Bethesda RPG as an exclusive.
I can't deal with people acting like this gen is the worst ever, when we had 5 studios, Lionhead shutdown, multiple games cancelled and constant real fear that Xbox would be shutdown by Microsoft. The future is bright for Xbox right now even with these bumps in the road, it ain't always going to be perfect, they had to rebuild themselves from the ground up, they will get there though.
Starfield is around the corner, the high quality AAs they've released show signs of promise and their great 2021 had a lot of promise. They're about to own like 30-40 studios and be printing money with CoD + King + Blizzard + Minecraft + Bethesda RPGs, etc...So they aren't going anywhere. ResetEra has been absolutely insufferable the past week to browse as have some in Xbox circles, Lol.
Starting to think that Microsoft should have just made all those multiplatforms released as an exclusive, Lol. I'm assuming most of them would have had a buyout clause, course people would complain about evil Microsoft but people are now complaining they don't have enough exclusives due to the fact that many studios only recently released multiplatform titles.
I think ABK is distracting Xbox at large and taking their eye off the ball with some things but this is temporary, ABK will close soon and honestly it was more important to get ABK done so it was understandable that is their focus. Pretty sure that come the June showcase we'll suddenly "be back" again and Xbots will be jerking themselves off, Xbox personalities will be rubbing Starfield in the face of Sony fans, Lol. Sigh.
Hopefully Zelda and Final Fantasy distract gamers enough from constantly obsessing over the littlest things.
I for one am still more excited about this generation than any other Xbox generation, and feel 10x better about it than the Xbox One gen where I was constantly on edge, I've actually been enjoying playing videogames again this year but every time I return to the internet I see Xbox fans dooming about everything or journos making silly comments or jumping on the negativity.
Looking forward to Redfall despite the controversy, Hi-Fi Rush was brilliant, enjoyed Yakuza 3-5 on Game Pass (and also Skywalker Saga, Tinykin), I'm looking forward to Benedict Fox and going to play Dead Island 2 (seriously there's more titles than just exclusives as well, lots of high profile 3rd parties so far this year) and I'm unbelievably excited for Starfield, a Bethesda RPG alone will blow away 2 years worth of exclusives for me personally, Lol.
If Stalker 2, Hellblade 2 and others are in 2022 as well then even better. Xbox isn't going anywhere and that ABK acquisition proves that. And also the dooming that the Console is going anywhere is silly as well for a number of reasons I believe I already made a post on. Not everything is perfect and there's quite a few dumb slip ups, it will never be perfect but the future is bright.
Seeing Xbox fans in the Era thread growing tired of certain Xbox folk as well, as well as the constant dooming, Lol.
