Anyone get the sense that Phil is desperately trying to cling onto leadership to try to go out on some sort of high after completely destroying his reputation? I see no reason why he can't leave now and take all the hits with him so someone less hated can take over, I straight up don't think Sarah needs help from Phil, I remember this interview once from Sarah.
"At first, Bond’s and Spencer’s personal styles clashed, and the two sought out Microsoft human resources chief Kathleen Hogan for coaching, an unusual step that Hogan found admirable. Bond recalls Spencer and others at Microsoft telling her that her tendency to “push the envelope” and “not let something go” was new to them. She says she found that Spencer’s communication style sometimes left her unsure of what he actually wanted from her. At one point, she stuck a Post-It note to her computer with some advice about interacting with him. “I’m not being paid to do what he says,” it read. “I’m being paid to do what he meant."
Comes across like Phil isn't even a very good communicator and quite frankly I don't think Sarah needs babying.
It's a real shame it has came to this though, Phil did objectively save Xbox from being shutdown, then he restored Xbox's 1st party to the highest heights ever, then he introduced Game Pass which is fucking amazing value still, the Xbox Series X was a brilliant piece of technology, the Xbox Series S was a smart idea but not executed fully correct (RAM should have been the same). 1st Party has been on fire for the past 1+ year and so many other things, but now he has burnt it all down and he will be remembered not for any of that but for being some butcher of Xbox.
And that's why I wonder if Phil waiting to leave for next gen is more of a personal decision of him wanting to restore his reputation but I will say still it's time for him to leave, I don't know how he can show his face during TGAs or Xbox's 25th anniversary celebrations after being involved in all these layoffs.
