Xbox in 2026.

  • Fable (Confirmed)
  • Forza (Confirmed)
  • Gears E-Day (Confirmed)
  • "Return of a Classic" (Likely Halo; Speculation)

That's 4 titles already confirmed for 2026. 3 confirmed to be major releases, 4 if it turns out the classic is Halo which is very likely, Lol. Might as well add on Call of Duty since that's a guarantee as per usual and we're up to 5 titles already for 2026 and we're only half way into 2025, Lol. State of Decay 3 is heavily rumoured to be releasing in 2026 as well.

Not even any A-AA that are confirmed for 2026 or heavily rumoured yet, but I am sure they will be there, they're just titles that don't tend to be leaked or announced years in advance. Could easily see another 10 titles released in 2026 when we're already at 5 but GTA 6 might complicate release dates a little bit and 2026 may end up a bit stuffed in certain quarters to avoid GTA but still get games out.

I love 2025's line-up and 2026's is already looking better, I think we're going to be saying for quite a while now "damn, this year is amazing" Lol. That meme of "next year will be the year of Xbox" has finally came true but it's more like "next year will be the year of Xbox, and last year was the year of Xbox, and the year after will be the year of Xbox" Lol. We're looking at 2025 like "damn, what a great year" and then 2026 like "damn, what a great year" and then 2027, 2028, etc, Lol.

They just have too many studios and projects now that I can't see them having a light year for a while, I could estimate a lot of 2027 releases and still have stuff left over for 2028 and that's just based on what is already announced. Pretty obvious they're trying to avoid announcing things years in advance lately so a lot of things for 2028-2029 will be unannounced right now.

Curious what's going on with State of Decay. Wasn't that announced for 2026 last year, or am I misremembering? And do Everwild and Contraband even still exist? They've been announced almost as long as Elder Scrolls 6 at this point

State of Decay 3 is rumoured to be releasing in Early 2026 according to Jez Corden. The developers kind of fucked up by posting an ARG tease before the showcase which made people think they would be showing something. They've responded today and said they basically didn't want to make a trailer because they'd rather focus on making the game.

Everwild still exists, Rare was even using Everwild themed graphics in their tweets last year for certain things. Recent talks from insiders are that development has been going smooth for a while now, Andy Robinson who is a British journalist with close ties to Rare and worked at Playtonic for years seems enthusiastic about it as well and was one of the ones who said things are good now.

Contraband on the other hand, has had repeated leaks about development being rough, missed deadlines and "soft-reboots" to the concept, if I'm going to be honest, I never had much faith in Avalanche to begin with and I'm unfortunately starting to wonder if it's a sunk-cost fallacy and a cancellation may be for the best, if it doesn't release in 2026 then...

I don't think there's any particularly strong reason to worry about SoD3 or Everwild but there is for Contraband.

I'm going to rewatch all the trailers again today and see if there's anything I missed before voting on the poll.

That one doesn't surprise me that much as it's an MMO and MMOs tend to take fucking forever to develop and get right, it has to launch strong and has to have a near 10 year plan already prepared with content already nearly ready to bang out straight after release. The Elder Scrolls Online was in development for 7 years and that was based on an established IP.

Final Fantasy XIV started development in 2005 and launched in 2010 which was "only" 5 years but of course we know it launched in a fucking state and had to essentially be soft rebooted, shutdown and relaunch later, Lol. WoW took "only" 5 years but when you think about it, FFXIV and World of Warcraft started development in the early 2000s when development time and scope was far smaller.

Back in the 2000s your average AAA would take like 2-3 years and now they're taking like 4-5, Lmao. MMOs were already taking 5+ years in the early 2000s so an MMO taking "only" 5 years in the 2000s is like 8-10 years by todays standards, Lol. Which is fucking nuts, I couldn't imagine working on a single game for nearly 10 years.

Oh and Zenimax is making a new engine for the new MMO.

The Xbox Ally seems to be getting a lot of positive impressions, I'm a bit surprised, Lol, I didn't expect it to be bad or anything but I thought it would be a fairly "meh" response, especially since we heard rumours that Xbox's UI stuff was way off but it seems like there are some genuinely good performance gains and the device itself is pretty good.

Also...

I had a play on the new Xbox handheld. They may not sell in huge numbers, but by increasing engagement, they're potentially very lucrative

We'll need to tap this sign a lot for everyone who thinks because this thing doesn't sell 20m+ it's a failure, Lol.

Yeah I'm seeing a LOT of positive impressions from tech youtubers who got to get some hands on that I trust like Retro Game Corps, Dave2D, and ETA Prime. Dave2D in particular had just recently shredded the new Lenovo Legion handheld that came with Windows versus the edition that comes with SteamOS. And deservedly so. The Windows edition cost more, OS being not suitable for handheld, and games ran worse.

With this new version of Windows, they're talking about how performance has been incredibly good up to this point, and even the UI is shockingly smooth that Dave2D has a hard time believing it lol.

Kinda funny that Xbox is finally becoming what Bill Gates originally wanted when he was sold on the Xbox concept......Windows on a game console.

Need the Xbox UI downloadable on all PCs next.

Then whether the next Xbox is a PC or not, I'll be migrating over to PCMR.
