they've been working on it for 8 years now and still no announcement!That one doesn't surprise me that much as it's an MMO and MMOs tend to take fucking forever to develop and get right, it has to launch strong and has to have a near 10 year plan already prepared with content already nearly ready to bang out straight after release. The Elder Scrolls Online was in development for 7 years and that was based on an established IP.
Final Fantasy XIV started development in 2005 and launched in 2010 which was "only" 5 years but of course we know it launched in a fucking state and had to essentially be soft rebooted, shutdown and relaunch later, Lol. WoW took "only" 5 years but when you think about it, FFXIV and World of Warcraft started development in the early 2000s when development time and scope was far smaller.
Back in the 2000s your average AAA would take like 2-3 years and now they're taking like 4-5, Lmao. MMOs were already taking 5+ years in the early 2000s so an MMO taking "only" 5 years in the 2000s is like 8-10 years by todays standards, Lol. Which is fucking nuts, I couldn't imagine working on a single game for nearly 10 years.
Oh and Zenimax is making a new engine for the new MMO.
