Edit: Oops I posted in the Nintendo Thread.

It's relevant because it's naïve to believe this won't open the floodgates for 3rd party publishers to once again increase prices, all it takes is one big player to make the move, thus it affects everyone on Xbox too.

I mean you talk about what you want =p we already have 100$ xbox games tho =p.

Thank god for GamePass, honestly. These publishers are losing the plot with how much they think these games are worth. Are there games worth that kind of money? Sure, but they're few and far between. It's one thing to upsell your biggest fans with ultimate editions and such to increase your profit, but when you keep jacking up the base price, at a certain point, all you're doing is pushing the larger audience to wait for sales...and once they've determinded they're waiting for a sale, they're not gonna wait for it to be 10-20 bucks off, cus you already annoyed them into waiting. So by the time they pick your game up at 50% off or whatever...have you really increased profits? And what if your game is a live service? Shit, your game might already be dead by the time the larger audience thinks it's worth the entry point.

Thank God for Game Pass indeed, but only for Xbox IP, still a lot of third parties that I'm interested in that don't launch into Game Pass 😂

Maybe I need to practice restraint more, I get the argument about budgets, inflation, etc. But at the same time, people are struggling too, and prices on everything just keep going up, Lol. Maybe it does end up to a point where everyone starts treating all publishers like Ubisoft and wait for price cuts, Lol. Then they end up not making more money anyway when they have to cut them down.

GTA 6 definitely pricing at whatever they want though and they'll still sell tens of millions near launch, Lol.

Also every publisher needs to offer decent discounts on digital versus physical, there's zero reason to charge the same between digital/physical other than greed, as digital straight up costs less for the publisher, I at least like that Nintendo is discounting digital by a decent margin versus physical because hey at least that makes sense.

Now we'll have $120 games.

I think I bought the Two Nep games on xbox for like 50€

Meanwhile on steam the whole franchise is basically on sale for that price

Sony started the $70 for games.
Nintendo has started $80 for games.
MS probably thinking $90 looks tempting 🤣

I had to look at my transaction history, the only standard edition game I’ve spent £70 on this entire generation is DATV (which I’ve made pretty clear I greatly enjoyed it so) so when they hit £80 I’ll simply stop purchasing games period.

too late for April Fools

I mean .. I’m barely purchasing games at £70, with just 1 so what makes you think I’ll purchase any at £80. My comment sounded wrong, it should read as I won’t be purchasing any standard edition games at £80 period

NateDrake remains probably the strongest leaker right now, that dudes track record is incredible lately. Meanwhile Extas is collapsing in reliability Imo and I'm about ready to ignore him completely, dude has got a few things wrong lately, if Silksong doesn't release before June then I'm done paying attention to him, Lol.

The last 2 games I bought full price were Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2020, which was a $60 game, and Hogwarts Legacy in 2023, the only game I've bought for $70 (and only then due to how many years it took to get a proper open world AAA Harry Potter game). Darn sure won't spend $80 or more if the publishers all get greedy and follow Nintendo, will just wait several months after release to buy them on sale, or play them on a sub service if available.
