So even the new Square CEO couldn't save us. Shame.

It seems more and more likely the exclusivity contract of the trilogy was signed before Remake released in 2020, which is when the old Square CEO would've been the one signing it.

Nothing really the new Square CEO can do about it unless he's willing to pay Sony a shitload of money for breaking the contract.

I hope Square got paid well at least, but I suspect they didn't, we've heard tale of Sony getting other exclusives for relatively cheap. With the number of Nintendo and Xbox sales Square is missing out on with Playstation console exclusivity on the FF7R trilogy, Sony would have needed to pay them something like $300m to cover that full loss, and I doubt they even paid them 1/3rd that much based on the figures we've heard from other Sony exclusivity deals.

Not much of a wonder that the new CEO seems to want to end these exclusive releases at Square, I'm sure he has seen how much money Square has missed out on over the years by not releasing multiplatform.

Eeeeh let’s not pretend Xbox fans would buy FF7 if it came to Xbox, I doubt very much SE is losing millions, probably the equivalent of a weeks worth of Tesco meal deals.

OK, writer is now saying he made a mistake, only the first 2 games in the Remake trilogy are confirmed to have been part of a deal signed before Remake released in 2020. So there is still some hope that Remake and Rebirth could come to Xbox after the 3 month exclusive deal on Rebirth ends, at the same time it can come to PC.

Yeah, he seemingly is just waiting for deals to end. Especially when FFXIV was announced for Xbox and he said, "As CEO of Square Enix, we want to continue to deliver fabulous games to fans across the globe. We want to welcome the Xbox community as well. Starting with today's announcement and whenever possible we are planning to bring our games to Xbox for players to enjoy."

That can only mean contracts that were signed before his tenure. So, he's just waiting for contracts to expire.

Eh, FF15 did 1.5m+ on Xbox as I recall. So I'm thinking 1m+ per FF7R game on Xbox they are missing out on. That's over 3m units between all 3 games. Switch 2 meanwhile will have the specs to run both Remake and Rebirth with relatively little porting work, so Square is also missing out on millions of units between all 3 FF7R games on Switch 2.

Just look at Sega, Persona and Yakuza are thriving as fully multiplatform releases, both are bigger than ever, or Capcom making a killing as a (mostly) fully multiplatform publisher, albeit Capcom still has moments where some things skip Xbox but their biggest are all on Xbox. 1-2m extra sales for FF16 is nothing to be scoffed at especially in todays climate.

And all their random side projects need as many players as they can get, especially since a lot of them end up being mid, Lol.

It might be a bit much but I wish Xbox also did a Partner Direct style presentation but for Game Pass releases every month, Lol. Instead of doing an announcement twice a month or w/e, or saving some "shadow drops" just announce all titles coming to Game Pass in a given month in a video format (and the usual Xbox Wire post).

Or if that is a bit much, why not a Game Pass presentation for titles per quarter? Like Game Pass Direct: Q1, Game Pass Direct: Q2, etc.

PC would do well aswell; and FFXIV is reaching top spot on most played games of the week.

Well, PC did at least get FF7 Remake after a year and a half, and Rebirth is eligible for a PC port after 3 months. So they probably did miss out on some FF7 sales on PC with a late release (SteamSpy has FF7 Remake in the 500k-1m range and I think it would have done well over 1m had it not been a year a half late), but nowhere near as many sales as they are missing out on by waiting years and years for ports to Xbox and Nintendo. If Square does have to wait until like a year after the 3rd game has released before they can port the full trilogy to Xbox and Nintendo, we're probably looking at late 2027 or early 2028 for the 3rd game's release on PS5/PS6 and late 2028-early 2029 before it can release on Xbox and Nintendo, so nearly a decade of waiting since Remake part 1 released in April 2020.

I wonder what it would be like to live in an entire station of clones of yourself...
