Wait, Phil said that? This MF

I don't remember that.. lol.

Does that involve a handheld? You keep liking loads of tweets about handhelds.

I’m a big fan of handhelds. [Laughs] I’m a big fan, but nothing to announce.

There were actually some recent leaks that suggest RDNA 4 will catch up Ampere in RT performance, so my hope is that RDNA 5 will catch up all the way to Ada Lovelace on RT performance. If that is the case, a 7090 XT tier mid range RDNA 5 part in the next gen Xbox could have at least 4070 ti tier RT performance, maybe even 4070 ti Super tier.

I think next gen should be pretty good if we get something like 1440p FSR quality moded up to a higher resolution, higher end ray tracing options (Series X/PS5 get medium RT settings at best, so RT high or path tracing would be a big leap there), and FSR Frame Generation to nearly double framerates, allowing them to pull off RT and decent graphics settings from the PC version at 60 fps, instead of 30 fps RT modes like this gen.

I meant Ada* (hence comparing it to the 4070 Ti), my bad.

Still, not ideal for a generational leap, IMO, though they will make it seem like one with frame gen and all.

Tom Warren really is one of the biggest clowns on gaming twitter. Insta block, from that dent.

I think Tom Warren asked him about the handheld in his interview. He stopped short of confirming they are making one, but stated that the Xbox team is working with the Windows team to improve Windows on smaller screens and devices with no mouse/trackpad like some of the PC handhelds (work they would need to do beforehand if this rumored Xbox handheld does have dual layer Xbox + Windows OS).

Think Xbox is really probably positioning itself to not directly compete with PS next gen. They'll have the handheld which will probably replace the Series S, I think it will likely be dockable. But then the high end console will probably be like launching a pro console at the start of the gen and leapfrog the next PS.

This is not to say Xbox will outsell PS, of course not, it won't come close, but it's more than Xbox will try to make itself enticing in other ways than "like PlayStation but green" where they'll be three different market catering devices, Xbox Handheld, PS6 and Super Xbox.

Depends what PS does though! They could also plan a super console But I think it would be a smart way to move Xbox away from a direct competitor to PlayStation, it would make it stand out differently from PlayStation.

I want to go back to something you mentioned in the FTC v. Microsoft case. You testified that putting Xbox games on PlayStation means that Sony uses that 30 percent of revenue that they get from those transactions to try to basically kill Xbox or undermine Xbox in certain ways. So why would you want to do more games on that platform if that's the case?

Maybe this is why we're doing four [laughs]. I'm going to learn about our partnership with other platforms. I'm going to learn about what happens with our players. I think it will benefit the games that we're putting there and that's a good thing for us, and if we can use other platforms that have gamers and maybe some of those gamers don't want to play it on PC and don't want to play on Xbox and that can help us grow our business, I think that's great. If the net result is that other things are punitive to the Xbox platform and try to limit our growth, then we'll have to think more carefully about how we support those other platforms.

Lmao at Tom mentioning that quote to Phil

We went to content and services because it's actually more reflective now that Game Pass is kind of at a scale where it's a sustainable, profitable business for us. We don't have to have a discrete focus just on Game Pass, we should really just think about the health of the overall business on Xbox, which is people buying games, subscribing to games, buying items in games, and the things that people do on the platform that drive the business.

Well you said that they were old plans, so what's happening there, is that what you're teasing?

[Laughs] We'll talk about things that are coming up. I will say I'm very proud of the work that the hardware team is doing, not only for this year, but also into the future. [We're] really thinking about creating hardware that sells to gamers because of the unique aspects of the hardware. It's kind of an unleashing of the creative capability of our hardware team that I'm really excited about.

Unique aspects of the hardware has to be handheld, Lol.

Surely it has to be more than simply a handheld. A handheld in an of itself is not "unique" as there's tons of them. I wonder what kind of niche features they could add to make a handheld more appealing.
