They had a good run, but as the saying goes, "All Good Things Must Come To An End".

A part of me is sad to see this decision that will ultimately lead to the death of Xbox consoles (at least in any sort of traditional sense, maybe those PC based 3rd party Xbox consoles will happen as well as an official Xbox PC-based console next gen), because Xbox has been a part of who I am for 20 years nearly. However I'm also hopeful for the future due to the fact that I'm moving to PC, and PC gets everything from both Xbox and Sony moving forward (unless something changes over at Sony now that Xbox is out of the way as a competitor, and they decide to stop PC releases). Ultimately not a lot will change for me other than how I access my Xbox games, I still get the incredible value of Gamepass since it is on PC, and I'll be saving alot of money not needing to buy an Xbox and a Playstation console each gen to play their respective exclusives, saved money which I can put to use upgrading my PC and buying Nintendo consoles instead.

Has the premise of this discussion changed to that some of the Japanese games are not coming to Xbox and therefore the hatred for JRPGs is deserved?
Well, but most Xbox players certainly don't care about JP games like the ones you laid out.

FF and Grabble would be the exception.

Perhaps what is being overlooked is that such disdain is held by those who have no interest in JRPGs in the first place.

Yep, now that the dam has broken there will be no stopping the flood, perfect analogy. The bean counters over at Microsoft like Amy Hood want that $80b+ back and they want it back asap, and they will stop at nothing to get that money back, even if it means dismantling 20 years of work as a console maker to become a 3rd party publisher that also sells exclusive-less hardware.

I have no disdain whatsoever for JP games, and I don't think many in this thread do either. Please don't mistake disdain for the business decisions of certain Japanese publishers, as disdain for the product of the creative teams, disdain for the games themselves. One can love Square Enix games, but also be annoyed at Square Enix leadership for frequently skipping Xbox. 

Also, I believe that Konnichiwa was posting that initial post about FF14 requiring Gamepass Core on Xbox Series not to attack Square, but to attack Xbox. Such a decision will have come from Xbox, not from Square. And it's deserved criticism of Xbox imo, they never seem to want to relax their archaic old-school multiplayer rules from early Xbox Live Gold. Gold/Gamepass Core shouldn't have been a requirement to play Xbox multiplayer games for about 6 years now, and yet it still is a requirement, thanks to some greedy bean counters who are afraid of losing a few Gamepass Core subs.

A weird reply because for me it is weird that they stil would have 'pay' for gamepass core to play a MMO that asks to pay  for it aswell.
