At a behind-closed-doors presentation to press, Xbox boss Phil Spencer says gaming revenue for the company is double what it was in the 360 era, says Xbox has more players than ever, expecting more than $1 billion in PC gaming revenue this year

(All meant to show Xbox strength)
Xbox studios boss Matt Booty says they think they've "turned the corner" on game releases. Hints there are still 2024 games to come that haven't been announced. (Might also have been hinting at 2025; a bit vague).

Goal is four big games a year
Avowed, Hellblade makes two for 2024.
Potentially Contraband the other one, Idk the fourth.
I know as a GP sub I’m considered welfare scum but even poor folks like me gotta pay the bills sometimes, just means I’ll have not eat for the next couple of weeks.

If starfield turns out to be like a 9/10 i think this year will represent a major turning point for the brand

Thoughts
1st Party Stuff
Avowed
Looks good Imo, I'm liking what I'm seeing and it looks even better watching the upload on YouTube, sure it isn't the best graphics ever but A. They still have until 2024 to improve on that and B. I honestly couldn't give a shit, it looks good enough Imo and based on what I know of The Living Lands and Obsidian's prior history, both the graphics and art-style are around what I expected.
Liking what I'm reading about it too, Obsidian excels in RPG and I'm glad they're focusing on their strengths rather than chasing after being a clone of Skyrim or The Witcher 3. New Vegas was ugly as shit, The Outer Worlds isn't the prettiest game, but they're both great RPGs. My main concern is the sword combat but the magical combat looks damn cool.
Clockwork Revolution
Shocked this was announced, even more shocked we got to see very brief gameplay snippets, I'm sure it's still releasing in 2025 but it looks and sounds fantastic and considering how highly regarded Wasteland 3 was, I'm very much looking forward to learning more about this, the time mechanics look and sound very interesting, your time shenanigans will have a butterfly effect on the world and characters? Sign me up.
Fable
Nailed the British tone, Richard Ayoade is awesome, I think some are upset over the art-style not being cartoony? Fable was always a blend of realism/cartoon though but held back by technical limitations, Lol. Think this is about there with the blend except it has far better graphics, I mean, Fable 3 was 13 years ago, Lol.
I spotted a Balverine and Fairfax Castle. The inclusion of Jack and the Beanstalk makes me think they're going to go harder on the "Fables" or "Fariytales" things. Need to know more though, Fable was never a deep RPG so I wonder how they improve on that but honestly what I want more is the sim elements back, Lol. I want to be able to buy houses and rent them out again and dumb shit like that.
Forza Motorsport
Looks beautiful, I don't care about it though.
Flight Simulator
Just wanted to comment on this cause it made me laugh, it was sort of like "hey, what aerial simulation activities can we add?" and Asobo said "all of them"
Hellblade II
Graphically it looks amazing but c'mon I want to see combat, I'm happy they're keeping the mental illness aspect of it because I was worried it may just become a generic slash, kill. The mental aspect of Hellblade meant it actually had a deeper meaning and I am happy to see it continue but it doesn't mean I don't want the combat improved and it's disappointing they didn't show the combat, again.
South of Midnight
Loved the tone, love the setting, love the vibes, disappointed in no gameplay or date, I've got my eye on it though.
Towerborne
Liking the look of this, I want to see more, happy it can be played solo, leaning towards a day one.
3rd Party Stuff
A few interesting looking indies launching into Game Pass.
Don't care about Atlus but nice to see their support, it's also nice to see Atlus launch a game on Xbox without Game Pass, so much for Game Pass causing Japanese developers to skip Xbox unless they get a Game Pass cheque. Xbox and Sega are best friends now, Lol.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth - W.
Nice to see another Capcom title come day one to Game Pass.
I'll keep an eye on Ubisoft Star Wars.
Does anyone know if the Cyberpunk expansion takes place before or after the ending, canonically?
Hardware
Nice to hear the supply issue has been improved, I had hoped Series S would get a price cut though and we'd get a digital only Series X.
No Starfield console is an L but I'll buy the controller and headset for sure, I'm disappointed in no console though.
-
Overall, I'm at around an 8/10.
Showcase itself was nicely paced, a lot of interesting looking titles, could do with more gameplay though but it's better than CGI. Very much looking forward to some titles and I wasn't really bored by anything cause it didn't drag on. No Contraband is sus but I really don't give a damn about Contraband, Lol.
What was missing for me is, while it was a surprise that InXile revealed their game and it looked awesome, I think it was missing one more announcement, like a surprise revival, such as Killer Instinct or Banjo. Some nostalgia hit. Maybe one more of the elusive titles such as Indiana Jones, Perfect Dark, Everwild.
Also little disappointed by the vague "2024" as I wish they could narrow them down a little more, such as Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4, etc. Or "Early" "Late" but I'm sure they'll narrow them down as we come closer to the end of 2023. Was also hoping that Towerborne would be 2023. Already expected Hellblade II for 2024 but I hope it's no later than Early 2024.
Starfield is included in my scoring but I want to write a separate post for that.
