Forums - Sony - Home Beta Delayed? Sony, what are you thinking?

I honestly don't give a shit about Home but I still want it to release, just so I can see what it's all about. It would also give me a reason to turn on the PS3 for something game-related.

this isn't the first time you've said this...methinks ye be a troll.

also, home isn't really a "game" so your statement is incorrect, as well as provoking.

Well, one of the key questions should be "Why is this being delayed?"

If we look at massively multiplayer games the closed beta typically represents a stage where most of the features have been defined and implemented and the content is being rapidly created; delays that happen at this stage are more often caused by features being poorly thought out, or content taking too long to develop, than from bugs needing to be fixed.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Yes, you are correct, there could be many reasons for the delay, some of which could include Sony's reach exceeding its grasp, or it making one or more mistakes earlier that will require lots of time and effort to fix. But I will stick to my point for now; no matter what the causes of the delays are, it is still ultimately better that Sony take its time and get the final product right. Otherwise, they've just been wasting their time and money, and everyone's year and a half or so of waiting would be for naught. And while IllagalPaladin and others may (or may not, I haven't the slightest idea) be right that no amount of time in the world would be enough to fix this, I think it's still better for Sony to do their best before release, just in case there is something there worth salvaging.

Hey, lol. I was just saying that I don't agree with the statement that a delay (in general) will translate into a good thing. I guess it could pertain to Home, but as an online service, I doubt it wont get tons of tweaks and changes anyways even after it comes out. I mean I guess it's a good thing, but I don't think it helps games like Blacksite: Area 51 very much, lol.

Why is my statement provoking? Does it somehow offend you that I haven't turned my PS3 on in two weeks?

Game, non-game, whatever.

I just want to use the damned thing. Like for Echochrome. When is that stupid game releasing?

70% of VGchartz is pro-Sony and I'm the blind fanboy. I bet that 70% are so offensive to other people that no discussions can possibly take place here, right?

On topic, I wonder what they're doing with it. Like I've been saying, I'm not caring about most of Home, just what they're doing to improve the PSN with it (ie- partying and launching into a game).

Sorry I went off a bit.  But this whole thing just pisses me off.  And the kicker is I didn't even buy my PS3...I won it.  LOL  Think how irritated I'd be if I paid for it....

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Ah, sorry about the misunderstanding. Yeah, you're right that they can fix any errors as they go along, but I personally feel its better that the thing be worthy of being launched when it gets launched. Otherwise, even if you manage to perfect it sometime down the line, a lot of the intial users will be completely turned off to the system, and once you've got a bad reputation, it's kind of hard to shake it off.

Of course, a lot of this may just be that I loathe and despise the "we'll just patch it later" mentality. When I shell out cash for something, I want it ready now, dammit, not in six months! Granted, I don't actually own a PS3, but it's the principle of the matter!

It's a bit frustrating that this is delayed, but I agree that their needs to be an end put to the "patch it later" philosophy of laziness that's taken over these days.

As a Square Enix fan, I'm pretty used to stuff being delayed, which has happened since I started playing their games with FF4.  But usually I find very little wrong technically when their games are finally released.

Sony isn't really the only ones delaying stuff this gen.  I was hoping to have SS Brawl and Lost Odyssey last Christmas break, which didn't happen.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Domination start this fall I guess.

this is what happens when you declare a release date with only 10% of the project done. Sony stop the bullshit talk about future game release before you even reach 50% of your game build.

What annoys me about home the most is that, we all know there are holding back core features that we actually care about just this vaporware. I mean we know they have in game music settings, cross media bar functionality, and game invites. But because they built it this useless shelf of a program, they are not releasing it. I mean if they just release those features outside of Home, I would give damn when that damn gets released.

Sony, wake the F up please. You guys are not the only system in the game anymore. I would think they had learned their lesson with the launch of their system and how poorly it has performed with over hyped over tech over priced system. You would think that they would have fixed their problems and that they would learn from Nintendo and start K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach. But no, they are trying to this do this over hyped over techie interface when the majority of the user base want a simple in game Xmedia bar and decent invite system.

I'm just saying...
