Corporations are never your friend. They are out for no.1 and that is your money. No need for emotional attachment.. if a company is doing what you don't agree with on their existing products, you can just not give them your money and take your services elsewhere. As platform holders have a steady stream of revenue, the likely they'll want to grow. And they think of more ways to extract that money from you. Where it be rising costs (in general) that is usually passed onto us consumers (or gamers), more subscriptions on top of more intrusive micro-transactions in full paid, or 'live' games and ads.
I've said this for generations PC is a great alternative. Now more than ever. A large open space with several ecosystems that are way more consumer friendly. Ability to play games to your specifications, cheaper overall game prices, not to mention ways to play your legacy games via emulation, free online etc that you don't have to deal with the shackles of walled gardens. But consoles do have their perks like usability and is cheaper upfront.. Tbh I've grown more weary of consoles lately and all the bullshittery that comes with them.
The only reason why I buy them now is because i don't have to wait years for them to come on a platform I own.
