Forums - Gaming - Between the Big three (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo), who is the worst when at the top?

Virtual Console, sure. But all DS/DSiware games, 3ds already could play all of them since the beginning. Beside, in 2011, 3ds had Ambassador Program which included some NES/GBA games too.

2011's ambassador program was only for people who purchased the 3DS in the first six months of it's launch. It had a total of 10 GBA games and 10 NES games. Total, that's much less than what was offered from PS1 classics.

I'm not even sure what this argument is about anymore, to be honest. The reason the Vita didn't have total backwards compatibility is because it simply didn't have a UMD drive. What they offered as compensation for that was fantastic. If you are going to criticize the PS1 classics for not having the entirety of the PS1 library available then I don't know why you wouldn't criticize virtual console as well, because there certainly are not 716 NES games, 1757 SNES games, 364 GameGear games, and over 1000 GB/GBC games.

Because DS/DSiware library on 3ds alone is bigger than PSP and PS1 library on vita combined.

Its not as simple as bits and bytes. The large majority of games released by publishers are subjected to copyright. Which is usually for the authors life plus 70 years. They can contain material made by different artists/authors which must be granted permission to use, by law. Things like music in games etc can be owned by different companies and must be contacted and consented to use before, well using/reusing them.

So it has nothing to do with preservation. It's just business and companies deciding how they can profit further with their old content.

You see, it's exactly the same thing of books and music, except you don't see music fans crying about Barbra Streisand discography disappearing in the wind. But well gamers are a different breed and have the ability to create issues over things that aren't really issues in first place

And you got this from one Tweet, how? There may possibly be chance Sony is working on a PS3 emulator because that's what's missing from PSN/Plus since PS3 games are only playable on cloud atm via their servers. And eventually they'll have to shut down/decommission their data center's with PS3's in them. We have no clue what it means, lets not jump to any conclusions.

Its weird how you guys try to spin positives to negatives. Its better than the alternative to losing stuff altogether.. You'd think.

Fantastic. That doesn't change anything that I've said about the Vita with regard to consumer friendly practices.

Oh yes, even with that, 3ds sales was still slow at first which meant it's not enough. And Sony clearly saw it, yet they managed to do even worse than that for vita.

3ds with superior backwards compatibility still sold bad at the beginning then no wonder vita flopped hard.

I'm gonna end my part of the conversation here because I think I've said my piece for the most part. But just two things that I'd like to add are that most people don't purchase a console for BC despite it being a proconsumer thing. Also, Vita had larger hurdles for BC that the 3DS did not. Proprietary flash carts are less costly to R&D than an entirely new optical medium. Especially when one would expect the optical medium to fit in the same confines as a different optical medium (the UMD). So, while it wasn't as good, it was really the best they could offer with what they had. And that's one reason why the PSP is the only portable console to use discs.

UMD disc PSP and memory card Vita are Sony decisions, again, they have their faults here.
