Saudi Arabia to Host Ukraine Peace Talks as Part of Western Effort to Woo Global South - WSJ

The Kremlin said on Monday it needed to find out the purpose of upcoming talks reportedly planned in Saudi Arabia about the war in Ukraine.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that Saudi Arabia would invite western states, Ukraine and major developing countries to the planned talks. The paper said Kyiv and western countries hoped that the talks, which would exclude Russia, can lead to international backing for peace terms favouring Ukraine.

Reuters reports Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, asked about the WSJ report during his daily briefing, said Russia needed to understand what the aims of the planned talks were and what would be discussed.

Russia would fire nuclear weapon if Ukraine succeeds in counteroffensive, says Medvedev

Imagine if the … offensive, which is backed by Nato, was a success and they tore off a part of our land then we would be forced to use a nuclear weapon according to the rules of a decree from the president of Russia.

There would simply be no other option. So our enemies should pray for our warriors' [success]. They are making sure that a global nuclear fire is not ignited.

"The enemy should pray that they lose or we will throw nuclear bombs". Great argument lol

Yeah that reasoning makes no sense but what can we expect.

At this point, I don't even know why Medveded bothers saying anything. I doubt anyone outside Russia takes him seriously anymore, and I have my doubts about how seriously he is taken even in Russia.

I've seen speculation in the past that Medvedev became a crazy bastard to decrease the chances of anyone looking at him as a successor/threat to Putin, I do kind of wonder about that theory because this dude is batshit insane, I mean, all of them are, but he takes it to another level. If Putin were to ever be removed, Medvedev was the sort of guy who would be naturally next in line with his previous political positions.

That is actually logical as guys like Putin will purge anyone who is viewed as a threat to their rule and being designated heir certainty is someone who would be viewed as a threat.

Its why a lot of dictatorships can crumble once the strongman dies - because it was all hinged on them holding it all together and anyone competent/powerful who could have succeeded them has been removed so they collapse in on themselves.

Kind of makes sense, but also doesn't make sense (but what does in Russia?). Another thing that comes to mind is that when you have someone so crazy, everything else looks moderate/reasonable (at least to some people).
