I figure Svatove would be next as some of the other maps posted here show it to be a major rail junction with tracks running not just to the south of it but others to the east. Recapturing would constrain Russia supplies to much of Luhansk and presumably Donetsk as well.

I think vetos are fine so that you won't have as example a situation in which some countries close to each other could just do "what they want" but it should be at least some more vetos needed and the country which it is about should not be able to vote. Regardless if it's USA, Russia or whatever. As if a country would vote against itself wtf.

That already happens. See USA using their veto to protect Israel whenever they're criticised for their treatment of Palestine. Or Russia vetoing any criticism of the Syrian government.

Removing vetoes would actually prevent that, not cause it. Countries would then require a democratic majority to "do what they want", that sounds a lot better to me.

Just realized that only the 5 permanent members even have a veto right. In my head it was like "if like 5 of the 15 would need to veto against a decision it would be already much better" but when there are only 5 who have that veto power...

Too bad the posts I hadn't read yet are gone...

Might just be political rhetoric, and worth bearing in mind this isn’t a US government position, but considering recent battlefield developments and the effectiveness of Nato weaponry versus Russian/Soviet ones it seems plausible.

Then consider the swift advance Ukraine has made in Kharkiv compared the the grinding advances and attritional tactics of Russia in the last few months. The recent Battle of Lyman and ongoing Battle of Bakhmut are examples of this.
