A Russian Shahed-type drone violated Romanian airspace today, triggering RO-Alert warnings in northern Tulcea. Residents were urged to seek shelter due to the risk of falling debris. Two Romanian F-16s were scrambled from the 86th air base and intercepted the drone.

It appears Russian diplomats once again failed to align their version of events.

Moscow wants to take back the S-400 air defense systems it sold to Turkey in 2019, aiming to resell them to other countries. Turkey, which paid $2.5B for two systems, never integrated them into NATO, while the missiles are already halfway through their shelf life and require costly maintenance.

Trump has reportedly begun doubting his ability to influence Putin, admitting to close aides that he misjudged Putin’s willingness for peace. Sources to Axios say his frustrations are growing while Moscow continues its military actions.

Two weaks.

Donald Trump says he’s ready to impose major sanctions on Russia, but only if all NATO nations stop buying Russian oil and align with him. He also calls for steep tariffs on China, claiming it would help end the war. Trump labels the war “Biden’s and Zelensky’s,” not his.

Lol. So he found a new way to avoid his "major consequences" for Russia, by demanding every single country in NATO stops buying Russian oil and joins him in his sanctions on China, the latter of which would seriously harm Europe's economy, now I'm not opposed sanctioning China for buying Russian oil but the way I'm reading it is he wants us to join in on his overall Chinese tariffs.

Also he knows that Hungary and Slovakia won't stop buying Russian oil anytime soon so even if every country in NATO but them two stopped buying Russian oil he would still have his excuse to not issue sanctions on Russia, he straight up praises Orban as a great leader all the time and knows they buy Russian oil, he knows that they won't change and thus America will never issue sanctions.

The funny thing is that Trump could probably convince Hungary and Slovakia somehow, because at least Trump and Orban seem to be on very good terms, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same with Fico as well (although I don't know about that). Of course that would require Trump to actually want it.

🤔🛢️ Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil facilities lack Western support and could strain Kyiv's relations with allies, — Bloomberg

There is no sign that the Ukrainian campaign has Western support. Allies have long avoided actions that could disrupt oil supplies.

The European Commission has floated a new plan to channel billions of euros in frozen Russian assets to Ukraine by swapping the cash for EU-issued debt, Politico reported on Sept. 12.

One EU official described the proposal as “legally creative,” saying it could unlock significant additional funding for Ukraine’s military support without technically seizing the Russian assets — a move seen as legally risky.

Four officials familiar with the discussions said the idea was presented to deputy finance ministers behind closed doors in Brussels. The proposal was met with “cautious enthusiasm,” though no agreements were reached. An official said a formal proposal could come soon.

Under the plan, the European Commission would exchange cash for short-term EU zero-coupon bonds, avoiding direct accusations of asset confiscation. The proposal remains under consideration, alongside other options for using frozen Russian assets.

Nearly €200 billion in Russian assets were frozen after Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Most are held by Euroclear, a Brussels-based financial institution.

On Aug. 27, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he opposed immediate confiscation of Russian assets, arguing they should remain a pressure tool in negotiations with Moscow. Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has taken a similar view, favoring keeping the assets in Euroclear.

On Aug. 29, Politico reported that the Commission was developing a plan to use frozen Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine after the war. The idea was to invest the funds in higher-risk projects to generate greater returns while pressuring Russia over its refusal to end the conflict.

Hungary has filed a lawsuit with the EU Court of Justice challenging the use of frozen Russian assets to fund military aid to Ukraine through the European Peace Facility without Budapest’s consent.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said skepticism remains across the EU about proposals to tap Russian assets.

“There is still a lot of skepticism in the EU, even if you can convince them of the necessity and explain why it should be done,” he said.

Why didn't they shoot it down and fire a drone in Kaliningrad while they are at it.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Isn't Trump right for once - regarding China tarrifs and banning Russian oil completely?

Of course coutries are still dependent so hopefully they stick to cutting it out by 2027, if Slovakia and Hungary reduce dependence it will be much easier for the whole of EU.
At the same time vulerable economies like France and Italy are dependent, sudden shocks might reduce public support for Ukraine.

Tarrifs on China would be easier and affect their cheap shipments flooding Europe, they support Putin's war already and that must not be okay.
I guess that would mean less Chinese bln investments in Europe.

EDIT: Oh shit he says it's Biden's and Zelensky's war, such a sick man. If he was president not only it would have happened, but Ukraine would not exist as of today. 40M people would literally live under dictaorship, fear and persecution, at best.

The issue is that he has created yet another excuse for delaying his "big scary consequences" on Russia, first it was 2 weeks, then it was 50 days, now it's when NATO completely stops buying Russian oil, despite the fact that Trump's best friend in NATO is Hungary's Viktor Orban, a big purchaser of Russian oil, he knows full well that Slovakia and Hungary won't completely cut themselves off from Russian oil and thus he has created an excuse for never punishing Russia, he has essentially shifted the blame for his cowardice onto NATO.

By the time that every single country in NATO stops buying a single drop of Russian oil, Trump won't be in office. It's a ridiculously unrealistic demand, there are countries in NATO that aren't even apart of EU either like Türkiye who will do whatever the fuck they want as Erdogan often does, he plays both sides. So while EU should absolutely cut Russian oil off entirely (and they've already made significant progress), even if the whole of Western Europe did so, there's still Hungary and Slovakia, who Trump never directly criticises, and then there's Türkiye who has no reason to follow what EU does and is the third largest buyer of Russian oil.

As for secondary sanctions on purchasers of Russian oil, I'm in favour of them, even on allies, even on ourselves, nobody should be funding Russia's war machine, but what I do not want us to follow is Trump's braindead tariff scattershot policy, it should be about the oil only, it has been a disaster for America and would kill Europe's economy, we need to be smarter and more surgical, the issue with secondary sanctions via EU is that they require unanimous backing so that's out because Hungary and Slovakia would say no, Lol.
