That Don Jr. audio where he says that Russia should have been supplied with weapons instead of Ukraine is an AI fabrication.

I deleted a post w/clip of Don Jr talking abt Russia bc I'm having a hard time tracking down the source of it. It's circulating on a number of big X accounts, but when I scrolled through the podcast from which it purportedly came, I couldn't find original soundbite. Will repost if I track it down.

Zelensky on the final US-Ukraine deal:

"There’s no $500B, $350B, or $100B debt in the agreement—it would be unfair. The fund issue is also resolved; I see partners there. This deal can be a great success or pass quietly. Great success depends on the conversation with Trump," he said.

BILATERAL AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR A RECONSTRUCTION INVESTMENT FUND

WHEREAS the United States of America has provided significant financial and material support to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022;

WHEREAS the American people desire to invest alongside Ukraine in a free, sovereign and secure Ukraine;

WHEREAS the United States of America and Ukraine desire a lasting peace in Ukraine and a durable partnership between their two peoples and governments;

WHEREAS the United States of America and Ukraine recognize the contribution that Ukraine has made to strengthening international peace and security by voluntarily abandoning the world's third largest arsenal of nuclear weapons;

WHEREAS the United States of America and Ukraine wish to ensure that those States and other persons that have acted adversely to Ukraine in the conflict do not benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine following a lasting peace;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Government of the United States of America and the Government of Ukraine (each, a "Participant") hereby enter into this Bilateral Agreement Establishing Terms and Conditions for a Reconstruction Investment Fund to deepen the partnership between the United States of America and Ukraine, as set forth herein.

  1. The Governments of Ukraine and the United States of America, with the aim of achieving lasting peace in Ukraine, intend to establish a Reconstruction Investment Fund (Fund), partnering in the Fund through joint ownership, to be further defined in the Fund Agreement. Joint ownership will take into consideration the actual contributions of the Participants as defined in Sections 3 and 4. The Fund will be jointly managed by representatives of the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the United States of America. More detailed terms pertaining to the Fund’s governance and operation will be set forth in a subsequent agreement (the Fund Agreement) to be negotiated promptly after the conclusion of this Bilateral Agreement. The maximum percentage of ownership of the Fund’s equity and financial interests to be held by the Government of the United States of America and the decision-making authority of the representatives of the Government of the United States of America will be to the extent permissible under applicable United States laws.

    Neither Participant will sell, transfer or otherwise dispose of, directly or indirectly, any portion of its interest in the Fund without the prior written consent of the other Participant.
  1. The Fund will collect and reinvest revenues contributed to the Fund, minus expenses incurred by the Fund, and will earn income from the future monetization of all relevant Ukrainian Government-owned natural resource assets (whether owned directly or indirectly by the Ukrainian Government), as defined in Section 3.

  2. The Government of Ukraine will contribute to the Fund 50 percent of all revenues earned from the future monetization of all relevant Ukrainian Government-owned natural resource assets (whether owned directly or indirectly by the Ukrainian Government), defined as deposits of minerals, hydrocarbons, oil, natural gas, and other extractable materials, and other infrastructure relevant to natural resource assets (such as liquified natural gas terminals and port infrastructure) as agreed by both Participants, as may be further described in the Fund Agreement. For the avoidance of doubt, such future sources of revenues do not include the current sources of revenues which are already part of the general budget revenues of Ukraine. Timeline, scope and sustainability of contributions will be further defined in the Fund Agreement.

    The Fund, in its sole discretion, may credit or return to the Government of Ukraine actual expenses incurred by the newly developed projects from which the Fund receives revenues.

    Contributions made to the Fund will be reinvested at least annually in Ukraine to promote the safety, security and prosperity of Ukraine, to be further defined in the Fund Agreement. The Fund Agreement will also provide for future distributions.
  1. Subject to applicable United States law, the Government of the United States of America will maintain a long-term financial commitment to the development of a stable and economically prosperous Ukraine. Further contributions may be comprised of funds, financial instruments, and other tangible and intangible assets critical for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

  2. The Fund's investment process will be designed so as to invest in projects in Ukraine and attract investments to increase the development, processing and monetization of all public and private Ukrainian assets including, but not limited to, deposits of minerals, hydrocarbons, oil, natural gas, and other extractable materials, infrastructure, ports, and state-owned enterprises as may be further described in the Fund Agreement. The Government of the United States of America and the Government of Ukraine intend that the investment process will lead to opportunities for distribution of additional funds and greater reinvestment, to ensure the sufficient supply of capital for the reconstruction of Ukraine as set out in the Fund Agreement.

    The Participants reserve the right to take such action as necessary to protect and maximize the value of their economic interests in the Fund.
  1. The Fund Agreement will include appropriate representations and warranties, including those necessary to ensure that any obligations the Government of Ukraine may have to third parties, or such obligations that it may undertake in the future, do not sell, convey, transfer pledge, or otherwise encumber the Government of Ukraine’s contributions to the Fund or the assets from which such contributions are derived, or the Fund’s disposition of funds.

    In drafting the Fund Agreement, the Participants will strive to avoid conflicts with Ukraine’s obligations under its accession to the European Union or its obligations under arrangements with international financial institutions and other official creditors.
  1. The Fund Agreement will provide, inter alia, an acknowledgment that both the Fund Agreement and the activities provided for therein are commercial in nature.

    The Fund Agreement shall be ratified by the Parliament of Ukraine according to the Law of Ukraine "On International Treaties of Ukraine".
  1. The Fund Agreement will pay particular attention to the control mechanisms that make it impossible to weaken, violate or circumvent sanctions and other restrictive measures.

  2. The text of the Fund Agreement will be developed without delay by working groups chaired by authorized representatives of the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the United States of America. Contact persons responsible for preparing the Fund Agreement on the basis of this Bilateral Agreement are: from the Government of the United States of America: the Department of the Treasury; from the Government of Ukraine: Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economy.

  3. This Bilateral Agreement and the Fund Agreement will constitute integral elements of the architecture of bilateral and multilateral agreements, as well as concrete steps to establish lasting peace, and to strengthen economic security resilience and reflect the objectives set forth in the preamble to this Bilateral Agreement.

    The Government of the United States of America supports Ukraine’s efforts to obtain security guarantees needed to establish lasting peace. Participants will seek to identify any necessary steps to protect mutual investments, as defined in the Fund Agreement.
  1. This Bilateral Agreement is binding and will be implemented by each Participant according to its domestic procedures. The Government of the United States of America and the Government of Ukraine commit to proceed forthwith to negotiate the Fund Agreement.

Signed in English and Ukrainian languages, both texts are equally authentic.

  • For the Government of the United States of America: Scott K. H. Bessent (Secretary of the Treasury)
  • For the Government of Ukraine: Yuliia Svyrydenko (First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy of Ukraine)

Deal doesn't look terrible? It sounds nothing like Trump's first proposal and more like Zelenskyy's original proposal.

Anything I am missing? Or sticks out as a complication? Even takes into account Ukraine's ascension into EU and makes sure it doesn't get in the way of that. From what I read, it's basically creating a sovereign wealth fund on the back off Ukraine's rare minerals but all the profits can only be reinvested back into Ukraine itself?

The text is vague and the money being reinvested into Ukraine is a win for them but American involvement will benefit them somehow. It's sick that Ukraine has to make a deal like this to ensure further American support when they're facing genocide but that's America for you. Zelenskyy is a real leader who no matter how many times Trump calls him a dictator and slags him off, will always do what is best for his country.

Hopefully this buys Ukraine some more time, it will allow Trump to brag about a "win" but who cares when this is life and death. Ukraine can't afford to lose American support so it has to do what it has to do. Europe deserves a lot of blame here as well, if they actually pulled their finger out their asses then Ukraine wouldn't have to make any deals like this.

Back to Western Europe thinking America is back at the table so they don't have to take things seriously anymore only for America to backstab Ukraine and Europe in 3 months from now once again and Europe to go beg Trump to consider with 20 meetings and "serious concerns" and proposals which they allow Hungary to block, Lol.

What I will say is the document reads like it isn't finished yet, it's basically reading like they are agreeing on this basic framework but they still have details to hash out and further negotiations, so Ukraine could still be screwed if Trump thinks this isn't a win for America but for now it probably shuts Trump up temporarily.

It's as if Trump has become more of a business man persona then either a rational or empathizing person.  Whatever, the next American president will probably throw the agreement in the trash.

And this not only gives Ukraine the right to keep fighting (trump won't be making peace deals behind zelensky's back), but also will let them keep fighting through provision of vehicles.  Europe has been great but the fact is that America has provided about 10x the amount of vehicles that the rest of the world has combined, so zelensky knows that he needs to make a deal.

No, they haven't sent like 10x as the rest of the world combined. Without HMMWVs they've definitely sent less as the rest of the world. With HMMWVs they've maybe sent around the same or "a little" more than the rest of the world but I don't think it makes sense to count HMMWVs as much as tanks, self-propelled artillery and so on...

To even call it a fact...

USA is obviously the single most important provider of military equipment especially considering that USA has a lot left whereas many European countries already gave a lot of what they had away but you shouldn't act like Trump himself when you talk about stuff like that.

Trump bragged Monday about working with Putin while recapping his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and other G7 leaders about next steps to deescalate the war in Ukraine. "I am in serious discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia concerning the ending of the War, and also major Economic Development transactions which will take place between the United States and Russia," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "Talks are proceeding very well!"

But, surprise, surprise, it seems Putin is on an entirely different page.

During remarks on Russian state television Monday, Putin said he had yet to have any detailed talks with Trump about ending the conflict in Ukraine, according to the Associated Press. The autocrat added that Russian and American negotiating teams hadn't discussed ending the war, either, during a meeting in Saudi Arabia last week.

During his regular media briefing this morning, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov appeared to dispute Donald Trump's claim that Russia would accept European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine. Addressing reporters, Peskov said the Kremlin had nothing to add to the foreign ministry's position on the unacceptability of Nato peacekeepers in Ukraine.

Kremlin Contradicts Trump's Claim on Peacekeeping Forces in Ukraine

But Putin hasn't gotten what he wanted during the three-year war in Ukraine and "he will try to get it through the peace talks," Braže said. "So, it's important to clearly remember that perspective in whatever deal we negotiate or strike." "We strongly believe that a rushed ceasefire will not lead to sustainable peace; instead, it will only embolden Russia, encouraging further expansion and putting global security at grave risk," she said.

1/3. It should be astonishing, though it’s not, that the American negotiators want to begin from the premise that Russia was right and that Ukraine is not sovereign. Accepting the lies of the aggressor isn’t just unethical, it’s also unstrategic.

— Timothy Snyder (@timothysnyder.bsky.social) 26 February 2025 at 01:51

2/3. Agreeing with Russia that a war of aggression leads to the end of Ukrainian sovereignty is not just morally but factually wrong – it is a complete misreading of what happened these last 3 years, as Ukrainians won battles, took back territory, and proved their existence by any conceivable metric

— Timothy Snyder (@timothysnyder.bsky.social) 26 February 2025 at 01:51

3/3. Any peace will have to begin from legal and political reality. For America at this point in the war to -help- Russia undo Ukrainian sovereignty is not just injustice but a provocation to a much broader war.
