I'm in that awkward zone where I'm way too good to play casuals, but nowhere near good enough to go to tournaments, even if I was so inclined. So, online is the best option I've got. Used to play with my little brother, but unfortunately his hands are a bit messed up (possibly from too much melee).

Sorry to hear that about your brother, hope he gets better.

I don't think there's such a thing as not being good enough for tourneys, certainly not at your level. If there's tourneys near you at a reasonable price, playing in them is the best way to improve. No one is a pro on their first tournament. If you just don't feel like it, that's a pretty good reason though - it can be a pretty daunting experience, and some local communities suck. But most are fine, I think.

I live in NYC, so I could certainly find tournaments, at least once Covid is over. The problem though is that since I'm in such a major area, there are probably gonna be some high level players even in smaller tournament. But more importantly, it's just a matter of priorities. I like Smash a lot, but not enough to put in the practice that would be necessary to get a decent placement in a tournament. Would be awesome to have people around my level to play with in person. But, only if they were people I otherwise enjoyed hanging out with, and little hard to find that combination. So, I'm about as good as my level of commitment will allow.
