Source is Nintendo. They sometimes release supplementary information, so we can infer digital sales from their shipped data. They don't give specific data like this often so I use the most recent that I can find.

For example Pokemon Sword/Shield as of December 31 2019.

01./01. [NSW] Pokemon Sword / Shield # (Pokemon Co.) {2019.11.15} (¥5.980) - 243.476 / 2.988.134 (-16%)

4.21m Shipped

1.22m In transit/ on shelves+ Digital (30%)

Take away in transit/ on shelves units and we have about 20% digital.

Luigi's Mansion 3 as of December 31 2019

02./02. [NSW] Luigi's Mansion 3 (Nintendo) {2019.10.31} (¥5.980) - 59.349 / 505.998 (-25%)

730k shipped

224k in transit/ on shelves+ Digital (30%)

Take away in transit/ on shelves units and we have about 20% digital.

Super Mario Maker 2 as of December 31 2019

11./08. [NSW] Super Mario Maker 2 # (Nintendo) {2019.06.28} (¥5.980) - 26.402 / 800.504 <80-100%> (-23%)

1.12m shipped

319,500 in transit/ on shelves+ digital (29%)

Take away in transit/ on shelves units and we have about 20% digital.

Actually the Physical sales data is Famitsu as of December 29, 2019. So there is 2 more days for physical sales, so digital is even lower.

Using the same method you can see that BotW had up to 50% digital in 2020, just in that year. Some JRPGs have seen higher digital sales thanks to vouchers (Astral Chain around 50% in 2019 for example), but overall digital still has a long way to go in Japan.

How do you figure? I don't see specific Japan data for 2020, unless you are talking about worldwide.

In Nintendo's financial explanatory material they not only reveal worldwide numbers for their games but also specifically for Japan. Subtracting famitsu numbers from that number reveals digital + anything yet unsold.

We got supplementary information for 9 months FY 2021 (April 2020-December 2020).

I don't see the same thing for other years.

One mistake you might be making is not using Famitsu week 14-week 52 only for games released before week 14.

16./16. [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild # <ADV> (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} (¥6.980) - 11.170 / 1.481.349 <80-100%> (-8%)

Week 13-1275039

206,310 Physical

350k shipped

143,690 in transit/ on Shelves + Digital (41% maximum)

So take away in transit/ on shelves and 2 days of physical sales and we have maybe a 30% digital.

I don't think there are 11% on shelves and in transit so many years after release. But yeah I must have just misremembered it. I didn't do the calculation myself, someone else had posted that stuff here or on era or so.

Nintendo games tend to stay on shelves though and sell for the same high price.

Either way that is only a snippet of sales compared to LTD. You said digital would be likely lower from the earlier years.

Bold: 30% is higher than 20% which you just claimed. And you still haven't explained to me about Astral Chain and BOTW digital sales.

30% is only the digital rate for BOTW for that period of time. LTD might still be around 20%.

Astral Chain didn't make the top 30 for Week 52 Famitsu, so it is much harder to find data.

I think it should be on you to provide proof from now on, since I have provided plenty of evidence to the contrary for other games.

But it is not like I claim EVERY game will have the exact same digital rate of 20%. That would be ridiculous.

So today is the day that we finally get new famitsu results. I am looking forward to it.

So you can't answer it, ok.

So evidently Famitsu still hasn't provided an update for the past two weeks. Will post a new thread as soon as they provide the numbers!
