Forums - Gaming - Gears 2 is up against some heavy hitters!

Gears 2 may be the biggest game next holiday season, but the 360 will be third place in hardware sales during that time. The PS3 has a more varied lineup of games, and the Wii sells itself.

I hope ND can put out Uncharted this year, seeing as that insomniac can do a game a year.

Doubtful. There's a big difference between alternating series and putting out one installment of each in alternating 12 month periods vs. developing an entire game in 12 months.

That would be so full of win.

I keep hearing this but when I actually ask for games, people seem to shut up quickly...

This is what I can think of off the top of my head:

360:
Halo Wars
Fable 2
Left4Dead (shared with PC)
Banjo 3
Gears of War 2

PS3:
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
SOCOM
Motorstorm
LittleBigPlanet

Am I insane for thinking that the 360's lineup is more diverse? What is so diverse about 3 shooters, one racing game, and a complete wildcard that could go either way?

Also Insomniac have a larger dev team, but the ND should get games out in 09 and 10

I haven't really read through all the comments, just skimmed them. Here's my opinion.

Gears of War 2 will outsell all the games you listed. But games like SOCOM, LBP and Killzone 2 will be better system sellers than Gears of War 2. I don't see a ton of people buying an XBox360 for Gears of War 2 if they didn't get one for Gears of War 1. Since SOCOM, LBP and Killzone 2 will be making their PS3 debuts, they have more potential system selling power. Hell, I think a game like Tales of Vesperia, despite it's limited fanbase, will sell more systems than Gears of War 2.

I think a lot of people's attitueds towards the PS3 having a better/diverse lineup is because of all the games we have heard about that have anticipated 2008 dates.  Games such as White Knight Chronicals, Tekken, InFamous, Heavy Rain, 8 Days, Wardevil, Afrika, The Agency, etc. all still have TBA 2008 release dates and every one of those titles seems to have some type of chance of being a great new IP.  If those titles come out too then the PS3 no doubt as the more diverse lineup for 08.  On top of the fact you have Haze, MGS IV, GT5:P ( I know 360 has NG2, but that won't be as big as GT5:P or MGS IV IMO) launching a few months before the above titles coming out. Then you have the titles you named, then you have projects that nobody knows about such as the Team ICO project and the NCsoft MMO, then you have a bunch of major titles hitting in 2009 such as God of War 3, GT5, FFXIII, and probably sequels to Hevenly Sword, Uncharted, etc. and all the sudden the PS3 has this image of having this terrific, diverse lineup.

There was, but it was not in every country, and in most places you got a choice of 6 games or so (of which those two were the best) and also look at Insomniac for turn arount times

Either way, a significant portion of MS's sales probably came from bundles.

Even Insomniac has a two year turnaround on its games. 12 months would be insane.

Not really. The bundle was available for 3 months in Europe. I had to school selnor for saying that R:FOM got 90% of its sales from bundles when in reality it got 240k from bundles (VGC numbers).

Here is what I told selnor.

Resistance was in a bundle for 3 months. From July to September, Sony put Motorstorm and Resistance in a bundle only in Europe.

Adding the sales from week ending July 7th to September 29th is 240,776 units. People love to undermine the PS3.

So the bundles have accounted for ~17% (out of a total 1.45 mil) of Resistance's sales in EU. Thats discounting the 1 mil in US as well.

The bundle started July 13th. And the Starter Pack was dwindling in supply in early August. I gave you two extra weeks in July and the whole month of September.

According to VGC, Motorstorm sold 271,114 using my above method. The bundle has accounted for ~19% (out of a total 1,427,997) of Motorstorm "Others" sales. I bid adeiu.

The 360 still has a few lingering TBA 2008s, too. Alan Wake is one of them. My point is that everyone talks about this diversity but most of the games are either TBA or 2009 at this point.

Since we're talking about holiday 2008, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to keep talking about these mystery games. It also doesn't make sense to add in MGS4 or Haze when we would then have to toss in Too Human and NG2. In fact, we shouldn't really be talking about this at all until E3 in July. Then we'll have a more concrete idea of what is really releasing and what might be vaporware.

Exactly, that is when we will get a clear picture of all three consoles holidays plan (though there might be some Sony stuff at the May 6th event). There is of course Ubidays, which could announce some exclusives (though unlikely) but that will give a better impression of the overall holiday line up

Also, isn't Splinter Cell conviction a 360 exclusvie for this year?
