Anyone else getting any issues with changing their avatars? When trying to change mine I get this:

ERROR - 500

Invalid UserAction in home_settings_update_handler.php on line 69

I'm guessing your best bet is to wait for this to get fixed, since this sounds a lot like a bug. Of course a workaround might exist, but I'm guessing not.
