Forums - Sales - PS3 overtaking the (Dead) 360 Anytime soon? Not really...

your forgetting the xmas boost for 5 weeks sales go 500-750k a week so early next year the ps3 will pass the 360

Um, the timeframe I used as a reference included two significant events:  The start date was Dec 1, 2007 and the End Date March 31, 2008.  That would include the holidays, wouldn't it?  It also happens to include the jump in sales in Japan and Europe on the launch of GT5:P.  Granted it was Prologue, but it was a fairly significant boost for the PS3 none-the-less.

Regardless, are you saying that the PS3 outsold the 360 500-750K last Christmas.  I must have missed that one.  If not, you are implying that the PS3 will outsell the 360 for 500-750K per week -- or 2.5 to 3 million consoles in one month.  Dream on, dude.  I'm certainly in the camp that believes the PS3 is going to continue to outsell the 360, but that kind of assumption belongs on the SDF homepage...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

i belive early next year ps3 will be ahead in overall sales.

its interesting in EU that a £159 console is not selling more

than a £299 console. just think if the ps3 was at a £159 price point!

if the ps3 was ever that cheap i think even the wii would be having some trouble outdoing the ps3, but it is not so we have to do with a 299 pounds console

If the Ps3 was that cheap Sony would be losing a lot of money. Or they would just substitute the blu ray drive and the cell processor for one free meal coupon at Subway restourant.

It's just fanboy banter. The truth is both are doing quite bad, compared to either the wii or the ps2. Basically, the 360 is surviving off America and the ps3 off Europe.

If you go by NPD numbers (and no offense to VGA charts, but NPD is more accurate), the PS3 outsells the 360 in the US. So if the 360 is surviving in the US, the PS3 is surviving in Europe, and the US.

Both dead in Japan.

Actually the last NPD showed the 360 outselling the PS3 as Microsoft finally started getting their supply issues sorted out...........

You bought it that? I don't Ive ever seen the 360 out of stock anywhere in America for Jan/Feb/Mar.

I know you in AU, so Ill cut some slack. There were never any supply problems. As Bogus as Sony claiming supply issues in US NPD March 2007 because of European launch.

Even if supply is down from 100% to 70% there will be a (in weekly sales) perceiveable shortness, although most of the customers won't even notice it.

I think MS really had some supply issues, because they aren't manufacturing themselves and therefore aren't as flexible in productionvolumes, but ofcourse those issues weren't as big a deal as MS wanted us to think.

me i'm tired of those discussions... I think we should wait 2010 and we'll know... I don't see why 360 couldn't come back in 2009 in the race with another good line up like last year.... I think games could do the difference on the long run.... at least I think it's how it should be... isn't game supposed to be the reason you chose a console over another in the 1st place :)
and anyway I think has already beaten sony at some point by increasing their market and the most important buil strong IPs and line up... just that fact we'll be a nightmare next gen for Sony... what ever will be MS position at the end of the gen... a big blow has been thrown to Sony's face this gen... and I think it's good for the industry anyway... think about it like that... without MS and XBL you wouldn't get home probably...

starcraft why do you always talk about RPG's?! iv never played an rpg in my life and either have close to any of my friends.

Because playstation has always had the most rpgs and right now 360 has more. He enjoys rubbing that in ps fan's faces.

May I point out that any gaps between them will be extrapolated at the holidays, as they will probably both increase by the same percent, meaning the gap is greater.
There is also the large boost from MGS 4, huge from GT 5 and huge from FF XIII. Also, PS3 sales in Japan are awful, and so will only get better. Of course to counter that, there is the upcoming 360 US price cut, which will boost sales there, but the combined might of R2 and KZ2 should stop the GeoW 2 boost being that great, and generally (as shown by games like J & D, DMC and FF X - XII) sales of a franchise seem to decrease over the lifespan of a platform, likely (especially so in this case) the original was so good that it got everyone who wanted that type of game onto that platform

Since the data includes Dec 1st, Holidays won't skewer it too much. Also, I do not beleive MGS4 or FF13 will create a large boost. Both of those franchises have been on the down side for a while and it seems that most opf the hype and want are from Sony fans, so many of the potential buyers probably own the system.

Also, neither will be king. The Wii beats both of them by a land slide.

Do we have to adress this arguement every day? .....No, no we don't. Not me at least....

Not at all.  I just love playing those RPG's so much that it's always a bit of a shock to get back to the computer and realize my fellow gamers and Sony fans didn't share that pleasure.

Oh wait, whoops!

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

If PS3 outsells X360 before Q4 2009, I'll post a pic of me eating my hat.
