Forums - Nintendo - IGN gives Mario Kart Wii 8.5.

8.5 is a good score cant wait for my copy to arrive

8.5 is good considering it probably deserves a lower score. 7.5 out of 10 would be fair.

You haven't even played the damn game.

The flaw that seems to really drag down the score is the difficulty of 150cc GP mode. I've already mentioned it several times, you need luck to achieve triple star ratings in 150cc, but if all you are aiming for is to win a gold cup and/or get a single star rating (which is needed to unlock some stuff), you can depend solely on your skill.

Also funny that they mention that the online score can go well beyond 10k points. Sorry IGN, but it maxes out at 9.999.

All in all, I don't understand why they didn't give the game at least a 9.0, they didn't complain a lot about the game. Maybe they don't like the "everyone's a winner" feeling, but that really isn't much of an issue. A skilled player has next to none problems to win races consecutively against average players. Maybe those IGN guys should practice a little more.

I completely agree here; I have 3-starred most cups but sometimes, it just depends too much on luck. Also, bikes seem a bit overpowered and unfair.

Overall, I'd give the game a solid 9. It deserves as much just for the flawless online and the enormous replay value.

I prefer Super Mario Kart  and Mario Kart 64. MK Wii looks a lot better than MK Double Dash. The Gamecube's MK game was the worst Mario kart game ever made.

I think 8.5 is a pretty good score. It's a little lower than what I thought they'd give, but I expected somewhere between 8.4-8.9. I think it'll rest around 8.5 average once most reviews are in. Based off what I've seen and heard from people who've played it though, I think it deserves a high 8 or low 9. I can't really say for sure until I've played it, but it seems like a solid MK.

Online seriously raises the bar for Nintendo, trumping even Smash in a big, big way.

That's not very encouraging...

care to expand?

What's to expand on?

I'm probably just tired, but i don't really get what isn't encouraging.. hoping you could be more specific

those arn't really reasons why it deserves a 7.5 Those are reasons why it is better/worse than previous MK games

@everyone: why such a big issue. IGN UK gave it an 9.0 (or 8.9?) I think. Since americans know shit about racing games, why not go with the real review?

@Montana and Rock on: Nice trolling. What I really like is that Montanas trolling is even worse. So he has set quite a standard. Congratulations.
