Why do you think xbox owners are stereotyped as "only likeing shooters? Because thats what the archtypical xbox owners likes where as the archetypical playstation owner likes jrpgs, well thats my stereotype of the 2. I dont understand why you even try to argue, I was putting sony down for failing to capatilize on what one of their core strengths were. (jrpg) I figured you would have reveled in that fact. sony coming up short. I know that last sentence just gave you a chubby.

I agree with you. Original Xbox owners were hardcore shooter fans. But Xbox 360 owners have shown a penchant for RPG's far beyond what the PS3 fanbase has demonstrated. If you bought a console in the last year because you wanted to immediately play next-gen JRPG's, you bought a 360.

Your making the highly invalid assumption that because the PS2 fanbase loved JRPG's the PS3 fanbase automatically does. But if all the PS2 JRPG lovers have already upgraded to the PS3, how do you expect FFXIII to push consoles? This is like saying that the N64 must have had more JRPG fans than the PS1, because everyone that owned a SNES played JRPG's. But clearly, that wasn't the case.

Im just curious, what ps3 jrpg are you basing this thesis on?I know your not thinking of folklore because thats an action rpg.

In red- those both condradict one another but my battery is almost dead so we can debate later bye.

But thats just it, there are no JRPG's on the PS3.  Where do you think it's going to get it's fanbase from when one does come out?  Makingmusic pointed out that there are some people that bought a PS3 in the belief that it would get most of this generation's JRPG's.  But I question how many people shelled out between $4-600 for a console based on the potential for future JRPG's, especially given the success of the Wii in Japan.

As for those red sentences, they actually complement eachother.  The Xbox 360 has shirked the Xbox's reputation for being shooter-only.  The PS3 has shirked the PS2's reputation of being a viable JRPG platform, at least for now.

But that all raises an interesting question. Can anyone think of any exclusive WRPG's or JRPG's that Sony might show at E3 besides WKS?

If they know what's good for them, they'll get the guys at SCEI working on a Legend of Dragoon 2.

Tbh, the one area in which Sony's first party studios is lacking is RPGs. All they really have is the semi-second party Level 5 (White Knight Chronicles), which spends a good bit of it's time making puzzle games for the DS (Professor Layton) and Dragon Quest games for SE in addition to its ps2/3/P titles.

Other than that, they may show the first WRPG or two from the NCsoft deal they announced at last E3 (the guys behind Guild Wars, Lineage, City of Heroes/Villians).

And then there's the platform issue of Star Ocean 4.  Oh SE, why must you torment us so!?!

Are the NCsoft RPG's any good?  Did Sony sign a deal for them to START making RPG's for PS3 or to put RPG's they were ALREADY making on the PS3.  If it was RPG's they were just starting, they could still be two years away.

As for Star Ocean 4, I thought it wasn't due out till the end of next year.

Here is the problem for the PS3's RPG's.  People will wait for FFXIII, but beyond that, the Xbox 360 will be nudging mass market prices at the end of this year and it will be the only current generation console with RPG's or JRPG's (accepting WKS (if it makes it this year) and Valkyrie Chronicles) worth a damn.

The Eternal Sonata port should be hitting later this year. That puts WKC, Valkyria Chronicles, and ES vs Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, and ES plus the knowledge that FFXIII will be hitting the ps3.

And then there's the smaller titles like Disgaea 3 and Folklore to go up against Culdecept Saga. :P

And you requested games that they might show at E3, not games that might make it out by the end of '08. Hence why I mentioned SO4. :P

Edit: I'm an idiot.  I totally forgot about Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery.  Yeah, the 360 will certainly have the better JRPG line up.

I'm not so sure. I don't think God of War will make it out this year so I'm guessing that the number one shown-off title will be Resistance.

Then again, Resistance is unlikely to move console's, whereas GoW is, so they might give it some serious airtime.

you do realize that Resistance outsold GoW 1 and 2, almost combined?

Res 2 will sell consoles, GoW3 I'm unsure of.

GoW3 is more likely to sell consoles simply based on the fact that it's a critically acclaimed series that hasn't had an iteration on the PS3 yet. Where Resistance was already on the PS3.

Resistance sold 2.69 million. God of War was over 3 million before the numbers disappeared (Why do they keep disappearing? The launch week numbers are still up...). God of War II is at 1.95 million and only went Greates Hits this past week (and I'm not even sure if the price has actually dropped yet).
