Forums - Sony - Who keeps buying the PS2?

I'm considering buying a Japanese PS2 for import games.

It may actually delay my buying of a PS3.

It's tough, Japanese P2, PS3 and PSP are all on my "Must buy" list... with the order constantly changing.

Too bad the PS2 wasn't region free like the PS3 is.

Well they came out with the 40GB ps3. I do wish all those folks buying games on the ps2 would migrate to the ps3 but those are probably the extremely cheap gamers and they won't come until they can get a ps3 for $300 or less. Until then it'll be a slow process me thinks.

PSP is region free to , so you can erase it from your list :)

I agree with most of your fact , just that is it really the PS3s biggest problem ? I doubt it . Poor software support , and extremly high price is the consoles main issue :)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

The PS3 should of launched at its current prices of $399 US or $499 US. The $599 US price tag for one PS3 model was a huge put off for PS2 owners. The PS2 was launched at $299 US and is now at $129 US. The price is the main reason. The Wii capitalized on this huge error and the Wii launch price was only $249 US. PS2 has a huge library of games and is BC with over 1000 PS1 titles and combined with PS2 library of 2500 games and growing. The price of a console is attractive to casuals and people on a budget. The PS3 will become a lot more popular and demand will increase significantly when the price is further reduced.

I plan to buy another PS2 when price drops or when they announce they will stop producing it. I mean, it's only little over $100, so why not. I have tons of PS2 games I still haven't played.

Currently loving my Wii x2, Xbox 360 Pro & Xbox 360 Arcade, and Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Limited "Cloud Black" 160GB PS3

GAMEFLY & GOOZEX FTW

I just meant Japanese PS2, the PSP and PS3 i'd get the english versions.

Oddly enough the game i want to get most for PSP is D&D Tactics... despite it's horrid ratings.  Every rating from an actual D&D fan seemed to love it in any case... and it's the closest thing to a real D&D game out there.  That and I miss the old complicated, spend 20 minutes customizing your character before you start your game RPGs.

The PSP seems to have some great tactics RPG games (Not counting Disgaea and FFT which I own) and can plug into the TV.

At the moment it's 1 on my list. I don't think it's PS3's biggest problem. I'm just saying that's my major reason for not getting the PS3.

If PS3's just allowed a way around PS2 region locking i'd just get a PS3 ahead of the PSP. Well if I could even find a backwords compatable PS3. I'll just look for a used BC PS3 most likely.
