Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer: Xbox Series biggest console launch in Xbox history

Another positive article regarding xbox. Oh Shika, you bloody xbot. I wish we'd get hard numbers for the generation too. I imagine whoever shipped the most probably will release numbers.

Not surprised but I doubt we will see numbers from MS again.

We might see numbers if Microsft sells well over the long term. Otherwise we can predict...

Yeah, I'd say that if they're nipping at Sony's heels by mid-late 2021, or at least not massively behind like with Xbox One, maybe MS will start giving numbers again.

I can't see why they'd give console sales numbers ever again.  They've changed their business model.  Console sales are never going to reflect their actual success.

My perspective was this is great considering the Xbox One had a bad launch and ruined the brand.

But maybe you're right, we should instead focus on the next gen.

If they're doing well then they'll give numbers again.

You really think if they were to get to 100m they wouldn't say so, just because they've changed their business model? They definitely would. Not just that, but if they were the fastest ever console to 10m, or beat PS5 to 50m or something I'm sure they'd give those numbers too.

Agreed, MS already gives milestones for software and subscriptions.

I should hope so they managed a global launch instead of a partial one like Xbox One did

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

The thing is, once XB gives good numbers again, they'll be faced with the PR issue of stopping giving numbers again if things turn south.  So, unless they have some really incredible numbers to share, I don't expect to hear console sales numbers ever again.  Just beating out PS in the US, or being ahead of them by 2mm units after two years or something is not good enough news to make it a good idea for MS to share.  If they're ahead of PS by a wide margin worldwide, after a few years, maybe.

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/xbox-says-it-wont-start-disclosing-console-sales-numbers-again-even-if-series-x-outperforms-ps5/ yeah I guess this pretty much confirms we arent getting numbers anytime soon but he can still flip flop.
